Technically a hand-pruning saw cuts best when pulled toward you, not pushed away like a wood/lumber saw. So, you only need to concentrate when pulling, pushing does less cutting. Also, I think it's best to remove vertical "suckers" with summer pruning in August. This prevents stimulating more vertical shoots. And you can more easily see what the shade factor is. I use a hat with a brim so the twigs hit the hat and I can react and help prevent getting them in my eyes.
I notice you said about some of the young thin shoots that you leave them, did you say they help feed the tree? Be grateful of your advice about these young shoots.
Went to college to do RHS qualification and you always taught prune back to 2 buds on this years growth now it’s all changed YET AGAIN just like your binomial naming system. What was sedum ‘autumn joy’ is now sedum ‘herbsfreud group A’ So frustrating.
Thank you Lenka, this is excellent advice and I feel much more confident about pruning now 😊
That's great to hear! 🙌
This is a great simple to understand video!
A very useful video. Thank you Lenka from Phillippa's Dad🙂
That advice was very useful and straightforward. Thank you.
Thank you Lenka for the pruning tips.
Really good reminder and advice that removes the mystery!
Safety glasses. Yes. Darn whipping branches can get your eyes pretty easy. Great tips, thanks.
The irony is that she's not got 3 points of contact whilst sawing as the branch she's holding onto is the one about to come away.

Yup! I give my bunny them each spring
Thank you! :)

But because of pruning like this, look how horrible your trees are looking now.... all trunk is in bumps....
