      @@DIYwithWayne I have two BR500I exhibiting the same issue; the battery is not charging! It's chirping, and yellow plus two red lights blinking. If I charge the battery it'll work just fine until it naturally discharges over a few weeks and starts chirping and blinking again. I've focused on the circuitry charging the battery and I've checked the circuit board for any obvious issues like shorted capacitors or discontinuities in the main traces, but haven't found any problem yet. If you have any ideas what the issue might be, any help would be greatly appreciated!

    these units also have an internal charger that in most instances has stopped working. Fix the original problem, and the batteries will last longer... The other issue
    (with the Beige units) is they can overcharge the battery and they dry out.. so if you shake the battery, and it sounds like something is rattling inside, then the battery is dried out and the over charge needs to be addressed... program cable will be needed... or... send it back to Goodwill for another person to deal with it.

    Wayne, I have 4 old APC UPS-600G battery backup units. All batteries are dead. Since all plug outlets are rated for 340 joules (+/-) do you think it would be feasible to rewire the unit to operate ALL the outlets to run without the battery being replaced? Then I could use all 4 units to place around home to connect things like televisions and DVD players to the unit and protect them from SURGE with the built-in surge protection within the APC unit. Not necessary to have battery backup for televisions and DVD players so not replacing the expensive battery will be great savings but end up with a well protected SURGE device for many things around the home. Maybe you could do a video on such a setup for those who have old Battery Backups.

    8 minutes to swap the battery out. Doesn't address any actual issues other than a dying battery.
    Hopefully you're able to answer this: I found a couple apc units at the thrift store without battery and they kept beeping while plugged in. I couldn't power anything through the master of one of them which beeped once every 4 seconds, but the other worked while having a constant beep. Both are the same model. Do know what's wrong?

    I've got APC BN600R that I bought used. The low battery signal was beeping when I bought it, so i ordered another battery for it. The new battery arrived a few days ago, so I installed it, and plugged the unit in to charge. Yesterday I "tested" it. Plugged a small desk fan in (turned on), and then unplugged the unit. Voltage dropped on the outlets to about 86 volts, and the fan slowed down. I checked the battery, and it was above the 12v mark. During this time I had also hooked the original battery to my 2amp car charger, and it's voltage had come up to over 12v too, but when I reinstalled it in the unit I got the same 86 volts. Is there something that needs calibrated or set up for these to work correctly?

    • @DIYwithWayne
      @DIYwithWayne  3 роки тому

      First, there is no calibration I know of. As for the voltage dropping to 86 volts. I would not expect that unless the fan requires more power than the UPS can supply. Your old battery may take a charge but not last under a load. The best wat to test it is under a load. Thank you for visiting and have a great day.

    With a battery backup like APC is the AC current converted to DC after it passes through the battery? After installing the new replacement battery, I checked voltage at the outlets with my multimeter set to AC and it read slightly different on the battery side. 120 on the surge only side and bouncing between 120 and 121 on the battery side. But I got no warning beeps, and everything seems to be working fine.

    • @DIYwithWayne
      @DIYwithWayne  2 роки тому

      The battery is only used if the house power is off. Under norman operation, the battery is only sitting there fully charged waiting to be used if the power fails. If the power fails, the unit pulls energy from the battery and converts it to 110VAC to keep the outlets powered up. So, under normal operation the power to the outlets is only provided by the house AC power coming into the unit. I hope this answers your question. Thank you for visiting and have a great day.

    • @accidental_relevance
      @accidental_relevance 2 роки тому +1

      @@DIYwithWayne that would explain how the meter read 120v on both outlets. I noticed there was something heavy in the case other than the battery. I guess it's the capacitors and things needed to convert the battery DC to AC when needed.

    The replacement battery arrived from APC today for my BN600G. And it's a ringer for the battery it's replacing. The only problem is that model number BN600G is not listed among the many that are in the cartridge replacement instructions. The case specifies 5A 600V 360W. But none of that appears on either of the batteries. So now I have to decide if I want to take a chance and use an electronic component simply based on dimensions and looks.

    Is there a reset that might need to be done to have the unit 'accept' that there is a new replacement battery? I've seen some comments around the web saying that a new battery still results in power failure warning beeps/signal. Thanks much!

    • @DIYwithWayne

      On the units I have the reset button is only a circuit breaker. I have had a few that when first turned on the alarm would beep if something was plugged in and using power. Not sure about the ES 700 but on my models (same as the one on the right in the video, except 550VA) the power cord hot wire goes to the electric breaker, then to the outlets on the "Surge Protection" side with the neutral and ground. Then on the other side of the rails new wires are soldered and go to the board, so if there is a failure on the surge protection side nothing should be working. So you will need a multimeter on the continuity function to see where the problem lies... and this is beyond basic troubleshooting.
      There are two fuses but they're 12V (same you will find in your car) so it is unlikely to be the problem, especially on the surge protection side.

      Hello Dora, It may be a stretch to call it a repair BUT I did a quick count and I have 12 of these between home and my office. I purchased 1 of them new and all the others at thrift stores where people got rid of them because they did not work anymore. In their minds they were broken. Also, we get a bunch of positive comments from people who don't know how to replace the battery. These are the people we are trying to help. Thank you for visiting.

      @@DIYwithWayne yes. I understand. sorry for being harsh. I apologize. I was frustrated. I plugged in at a hotel after having mine packed in the RV for 4 months, and they had electricians there when I woke up late. All devices not charged and the BUILDING WIRING FAULT light on my APC It hasn't worked ever since. Today was plugged in overnight and nothing.
      ps I also found an extra one at a thrift shop last month! great score for $5 !!

      No problem, we all have a bad day from time to time. Good luck with your Battery Backup and great find on the used one.
