💯 I worked for one of Goodwill's group home in their community outreach program for over 10 yrs. We called them "Badwill." They are a TERRIBLE corporation. Donate your stuff to any alternative you can find.
In one video I saw on UA-cam , a cop went in a Goodwill and he was asking if they would give a pair of shoes for a homeless women and they wouldn’t even give him a pair of shoes. The cop bought shoes for the homeless woman. When the CEO and other officers make THAT much money, then it’s not a charitable organization. I donate to local churches who have a combined thrift store . There’s lots of places that take donations and actually help people. Give to them, ot these greedy people.
i disagree with it (the anti tip system), but personally i dont accept tips, alot of them (customers/donors) feel entitled when they do and start expecting or demanding things that are not part of your job. (or things you shouldn't be doing) secondly, it makes some workers miss their actual job wherein a co worker will have to cover for them by doing more work.. something they SHOULD have done had they not been busy trying to earn a tip rather than earning their paycheck. Examples are having you go inside their uhaul to help them unload (when you are prohibited to do so, since they signed an agreement with uhaul about safety, and you did not) second is they hand you stuff that you are not suppose to accept (things that should go to the dumpster, but they dont want to pay a dump or drive there so they donate it to be rid of it) (EX tvs/matresses/broken furniture) and expecting you to load on top of their car(which is prohibited and a safety hazard) as well as asking you to dismantle a furniture or assemble it for them. by then your co workers would have to do the donations, the bale, the sorting, the furniture pickups and dropoffs . etc etc etc.

Yes they do. If you donate something and accident had let's say 1k in a jacket you forgot about and come back later they will not give it back they consider it a donation. So they will gladly steal money (in large sums) and pass them off as donations.

yes, sadly. i understand the reason behind it though. cause often the employees dont actually know the value of the item and may end up selling a 5000 dollar jewelry for 20 bucks. this is why they send all jewelry to ecom to be examined. same with books. and computer equipment(xbox playstation/computers) it also afaik doesnt count as "Sales" for the store (the computers) afaik. and the sad thing is, the workers hours are affected by the "budget". if store is not making enough, nor will the workers get work hours. specially winter.

Me neither as my wife and I used to back up to their dock and unload stuff as some slow person would help and ask if we wanted tax receipt. Never did. Last couple times dude said he must go through every box and bag as we waited and he said what he would take or not. Some folks get rid of trash into their dumpster, guessing. We always gave very decent stuff. Independent re-sale shop now gets our stuff.
we call them warehouse, but its basically the processing station where they sort the items by type, place pricetags, put them in large crates and stack them. a typical slow day you can fill up half of an 18 wheeler truck. worth of donations. clothes , others, furniture etc. the pricers have to look at the items one by one and determine a fair price and put a sticker . what @brando means is.. ask yourself what the company considers "sellable" and what happens if it doesn't pass that criteria

I saw that video, too! Insane! Many years ago a rather large, poor, family's house burned down. People tried to get GW to donate a few clothes to the family, so the could get through a FEW days. Nope! Wouldn't donate furniture to the family to help out. Nope! That policy needs to be plainly stated, IN writing, and given to people BEFORE they donate, so people can decide to give to places that will help others, OR go the convenient route. It should be a decision!
I worked for goodwill for 2 months and I never felt like I was working for a charity. The store manager was always just looking at the bottom line and were very snobby with the donation

I donate to the Salvation Army. As a broke single mother, the SA helped me, even bringing a Thanksgiving dinner, every thing needed for a traditional turkey meal. I never forgot.
Just so you know the SA gets money from the Government for every person they help, its also a for profit scam despite the fake smiles. If the government would have gave you directly as much as they gave the SA for helping you, your Christmas would have been even better.
I use to give to the SA until they went WOKE and went on national news tell white americans you need to be guilty and give to us. FN I stopped and sent letters telling them to stop wasting their mailings on mail to me and national apologies on the news, and I would reconsider? 👎
Their policies aren’t much better though. My husband worked there nights and got in trouble for various things such as making a man a sandwich because he came there after evening snack, and giving cigarettes to people if they were out. Was told it would make them dependant.

Goodwill has not changed! i just got canned today for pettiness of a abusive supervisor, who was sent to our store during a time our manager was sick. They came at me and others, did not follow policy, and when a another incident occurred, HR ignored it. They then canned me over a policy of the time sheets, but the supervisors and manager were not doing their job and we had to follow what they told us, and some of us got canned anyways. This company is going down a really dark road, and like many non-profits, get corrupted by too many looking elsewhere or turning a blind eye, screwing over customers, how they treat people who they donate to, and employees. Goodwill needs to be investigated and forced to adhere to laws other places have to.

I saw a lady on you tube that purchased a bag full of " donated" jewelry & found a piece of jewelry worth several hundred dollars. So, now any donated jewelry is sent to corporate , to be checked for expensive items, that are then auctioned off online. Where does the money go?
People like that irk me a bit. Seriously, the only way some people like myself will get an item like that is secondhand and now you can't because of all the videos and people bragging. Goodwill has donation bins set up all over our state now even near mom and pops that support missions.
This is the only job that has taken a tip right out of my hand and told me I can't have it. It was seven dollars. If it was a ten-dollar tip I could have three dollars...Goodwill isn't as good as they say. Don't donate free stuff to them so they can overprice their free goods and then underpay their staff.
Goodwill CEO makes upwards of $500,000. I worked for Goodwill for 2 years at the beginning of the pandemic. I was only was offered $12.00/hr to work there. 10-hour work days with a half an hour, unpaid lunch.. They give you a :15 break, but you are Not allowed to leave the premises. I kept EVERY SINGLE DOLLAR from tips that patrons gave to me. Policy is to hand over Any tip to your supervisor. Supervisor would then pay me 30% of that tip thru payroll. Wow...... Tips Rarely occurred, but should have been daily as there was a ton of work (usually heavy lifting) to be done. Please stop donating here as this is an evil, slum! not-for-profit, POS business. It never occurred to me to tip anyone at GW. I would shop on my own, checkout on my own, and pay on my own. No employee ever even spoke or looked at me but the cashier on the way out. Why would anyone expect a tip? Not being smart assed, just don't understand the concept or the entitlement to a tip merely for shopping in a second hand thrift store. I do not go there anymore by the way because the store in my area is unfriendly, gloomy and mostly picked over junk I would not buy.

as an RN at a busy nonprofit hospital, we were told to never accept a thankyou tip...anything ovecr $10 we had to turn over to management....so if a nurse got a big box of chocolate candy it had to be turned over.....meanwhile the big wigs and docs get golf outings and special dinners...

This happened to a co worker at my store. This is because Goodwill considers that their money once it is on their property, and for an employee to accept said money for theirselves, even though given to them, IS THEFT in Goodwills eyes.
Yes Goodwill is so greedy, they even made their own online auctions and even sell on Ebay. Their prices in the stores are almost the same as the regular stores. Before I would find toys for my kid there for under $5 now everything is $6.99 and up.

something sorta like that happend to me when i worked at a grocery store i went outside to help load a bunch of bags of soil on a trailer for some couple and they offered me 20 dollars i told them i couldn't take it cus i wasn't allowed so he puts the 20 on the ground by a pallett and says oh look i think you dropped something and laughed then he left ahahh
As a former donation attendant it pisses me off to know that the manager of the store I worked at makes more than his employees. When I started the pay was 10:75$ an hour all of a sudden over the course of a few weeks it dropped down to 10:25$ an hour.
I agree I worked in hard lines for a Goodwill store in the northeast, I worked like a dog for $8 an hour. It was like being stuck in the black hole of Calcutta. Corporate Goodwill employees would stop and go through the big boxes/gaylords that were filled with stuff that may be worth quite a bit. They would take stuff out on the sly and get a certain store mgr named Linda to charge a few bucks. One did this with a violin that later sold on eBay for over $3000 when the corporate "loss prevention" woman paid 9.99 for it and still had the gall to use her employee discount, LOL. I reported all of this and of my efforts my life was made eve more miserable until I had to quit. Funny thing is about 3 weeks later I get a call from Linda asking me if I would come back and work over the holidays but I would have to revert back to PA minimum wage. Goodwill makes millions and gets many government perks and breaks. Just look up former actor and congressman Fred Gandy who is rumored to have made millions in two years of work at Goodwill Corporate.
I work at Goodwill it's a terrible place to work they treat there employees like garbage and there policies are ridiculous and change all the time so glad I'm leaving in a 2-4 weeks.
I worked at Goodwill. Any money given has to go to the company. The only time cash is returned to someone is if they lost some within their donations. If a valuable item was accidentally donated, they have to let management know so the whole crew can keep an eye out.

73 cents? Dang I got a pretty great review last October and I only got a 12 cent raise and have been with the company since 2013. I remember my old co-worker went on strike with other workers before I got hired because of how bad Goodwill was fucking everybody over with their wages so they refused to do any work. He said he would have gladly done it again but everybody was too much of a wuss to do it with him and it was pretty much the whole store going against them.

If a customer slipped an employee $20, $50, $100- whatever amount of money, and "bribed" an employee to save them good product, steal products, etc, that could be bad for the Goodwill. I see why the policy bis there.
Lol I work at goodwill and technically we are not allowed to take "tips" but I only do it if my other coworker is not there because they can fire us if we take any money or donations, If its for lunch you damn sure best believe I aint gonna turn that down
I worked at Wendy's last year and we weren't allowed to accept tips either. But I always did, because I don't have the guts to tell my customers "I can't take your money". They want to tip. I remember one night I worked window and it was rough (window is the worst position) and i hated it. And a woman came through and gave me a dollar and said no understand working fast food." It wasn't much, but I was grateful. It meant a lot to me. I just don't turn down tips.

I asked an employee at a Goodwill (not in TN) if they wash donated clothes & such before they sell them & she said No. So... wait... what if clothes & blankets come from a house with bedbugs then?
They used to spray everything years ago but I don't think they do anymore because of EPA rules on pesticides. My dear mother used to say wash everything and if it was furniture or something big she said to spray it and leave it outside for a few days before bringing it in .

Try bidding on shopgoodwill.com, it sucks. Either every bidder is an idiot (and many are) or goodwill uses shill bidding to jack up the prices. Look up any item that people are looking for at the moment, i.e. PS4 or XBOX1 consoles, and the very first day it is listed someone has put up a maximum bid for more than the new, retail price of the item. And that's before shipping (and shopgoodwill.com gouges you on shipping costs, with a "handling fee" on every item). No-one is that stupid, right?! It happens every day on their site. i disagree with it (the anti tip system), but personally i dont accept tips, alot of them (customers/donors) feel entitled when they do and start expecting or demanding things that are not part of your job. (or things you shouldn't be doing)
secondly, it makes some workers miss their actual job wherein a co worker will have to cover for them by doing more work.. something they SHOULD have done had they not been busy trying to earn a tip rather than earning their paycheck.
Examples are having you go inside their uhaul to help them unload (when you are prohibited to do so, since they signed an agreement with uhaul about safety, and you did not)

Yes they do. If you donate something and accident had let's say 1k in a jacket you forgot about and come back later they will not give it back they consider it a donation. So they will gladly steal money (in large sums) and pass them off as donations.

Me neither as my wife and I used to back up to their dock and unload stuff as some slow person would help and ask if we wanted tax receipt. Never did. Last couple times dude said he must go through every box and bag as we waited and he said what he would take or not. Some folks get rid of trash into their dumpster, guessing. We always gave very decent stuff. Independent re-sale shop now gets our stuff.

we call them warehouse, but its basically the processing station where they sort the items by type, place pricetags, put them in large crates and stack them. a typical slow day you can fill up half of an 18 wheeler truck. worth of donations. clothes , others, furniture etc. the pricers have to look at the items one by one and determine a fair price and put a sticker . what @brando means is.. ask yourself what the company considers "sellable" and what happens if it doesn't pass that criteria

I saw that video, too! Insane! Many years ago a rather large, poor, family's house burned down. People tried to get GW to donate a few clothes to the family, so the could get through a FEW days. Nope! Wouldn't donate furniture to the family to help out. Nope! That policy needs to be plainly stated, IN writing, and given to people BEFORE they donate, so people can decide to give to places that will help others, OR go the convenient route. It should be a decision!

I donate to the Salvation Army. As a broke single mother, the SA helped me, even bringing a Thanksgiving dinner, every thing needed for a traditional turkey meal. I never forgot.
Just so you know the SA gets money from the Government for every person they help, its also a for profit scam despite the fake smiles. If the government would have gave you directly as much as they gave the SA for helping you, your Christmas would have been even better.

Goodwill has not changed! i just got canned today for pettiness of a abusive supervisor, who was sent to our store during a time our manager was sick. They came at me and others, did not follow policy, and when a another incident occurred, HR ignored it. They then canned me over a policy of the time sheets, but the supervisors and manager were not doing their job and we had to follow what they told us, and some of us got canned anyways. This company is going down a really dark road, and like many non-profits, get corrupted by too many looking elsewhere or turning a blind eye, screwing over customers, how they treat people who they donate to, and employees. Goodwill needs to be investigated and forced to adhere to laws other places have to.

I saw a lady on you tube that purchased a bag full of " donated" jewelry & found a piece of jewelry worth several hundred dollars. So, now any donated jewelry is sent to corporate , to be checked for expensive items, that are then auctioned off online. Where does the money go?

I was only was offered $12.00/hr to work there. 10-hour work days with a half an hour, unpaid lunch.. They give you a :15 break, but you are Not allowed to leave the premises. I kept EVERY SINGLE DOLLAR from tips that patrons gave to me. Policy is to hand over Any tip to your supervisor. Supervisor would then pay me 30% of that tip thru payroll. Wow...... Tips Rarely occurred, but should have been daily as there was a ton of work (usually heavy lifting) to be done. Please stop donating here as this is an evil, slum! not-for-profit, POS business. It never occurred to me to tip anyone at GW. I would shop on my own, checkout on my own, and pay on my own. No employee ever even spoke or looked at me but the cashier on the way out. Why would anyone expect a tip? Not being smart assed, just don't understand the concept or the entitlement to a tip merely for shopping in a second hand thrift store. I do not go there anymore by the way because the store in my area is unfriendly, gloomy and mostly picked over junk I would not buy.

as an RN at a busy nonprofit hospital, we were told to never accept a thankyou tip...anything ovecr $10 we had to turn over to management....so if a nurse got a big box of chocolate candy it had to be turned over.....meanwhile the big wigs and docs get golf outings and special dinners...
I work for goodwill, and i'm being extremely abused by narcissistic managers and The two managers who are not narcissistic are Not able to advance because the managers Including the head of the store manager who are narcissist, are Pushing them down. High turnover rate for employees.
I'm also being extremely bullied and abused by co-workers. Who the narcissistic managers prop up and put on pedestals.
Management is a position that tends to attract the worst personalities and rewards sociopathic opportunists.

I'm am thrilled that they are investigating goodwill and it's policies they have been charging way to much for donated items that people have used for years also they people they hire in our goodwill are not severely disabled

This happened to a co worker at my store. This is because Goodwill considers that their money once it is on their property, and for an employee to accept said money for theirselves, even though given to them, IS THEFT in Goodwills eyes.
Employees are scraping by trying to make ends meet praying they can keep food in their children's mouths. The CEO literally rakes in millions.
Yes Goodwill is so greedy, they even made their own online auctions and even sell on Ebay. Their prices in the stores are almost the same as the regular stores. Before I would find toys for my kid there for under $5 now everything is $6.99 and up.

something sorta like that happend to me when i worked at a grocery store i went outside to help load a bunch of bags of soil on a trailer for some couple and they offered me 20 dollars i told them i couldn't take it cus i wasn't allowed so he puts the 20 on the ground by a pallett and says oh look i think you dropped something and laughed then he left ahahh
i use that same technique, esp when i want to gift a stranger without causing embarrassment, every enjoys that ruse

As a former donation attendant it pisses me off to know that the manager of the store I worked at makes more than his employees. When I started the pay was 10:75$ an hour all of a sudden over the course of a few weeks it dropped down to 10:25$ an hour.
News flash, managers make more money than the people they manage.

I agree I worked in hard lines for a Goodwill store in the northeast, I worked like a dog for $8 an hour. It was like being stuck in the black hole of Calcutta. Corporate Goodwill employees would stop and go through the big boxes/gaylords that were filled with stuff that may be worth quite a bit. They would take stuff out on the sly and get a certain store mgr named Linda to charge a few bucks. One did this with a violin that later sold on eBay for over $3000 when the corporate "loss prevention" woman paid 9.99 for it and still had the gall to use her employee discount, LOL. I reported all of this and of my efforts my life was made eve more miserable until I had to quit. Funny thing is about 3 weeks later I get a call from Linda asking me if I would come back and work over the holidays but I would have to revert back to PA minimum wage. Goodwill makes millions and gets many government perks and breaks. Just look up former actor and congressman Fred Gandy who is rumored to have made millions in two years of work at Goodwill Corporate.

I work at Goodwill it's a terrible place to work they treat there employees like garbage and there policies are ridiculous and change all the time so glad I'm leaving in a 2-4 weeks.

I worked at Goodwill. Any money given has to go to the company. The only time cash is returned to someone is if they lost some within their donations. If a valuable item was accidentally donated, they have to let management know so the whole crew can keep an eye out.
Bravo on your choice to stop donating. I left Goodwill behind about about 20 years ago for just these reasons. Completely shocked me what they were doing with items I'd donated. Thought I was helping, turned out I wasn't.

73 cents? Dang I got a pretty great review last October and I only got a 12 cent raise and have been with the company since 2013. I remember my old co-worker went on strike with other workers before I got hired because of how bad Goodwill was fucking everybody over with their wages so they refused to do any work. He said he would have gladly done it again but everybody was too much of a wuss to do it with him and it was pretty much the whole store going against them.

Lol I work at goodwill and technically we are not allowed to take "tips" but I only do it if my other coworker is not there because they can fire us if we take any money or donations, If its for lunch you damn sure best believe I aint gonna turn that down

I worked at Wendy's last year and we weren't allowed to accept tips either. But I always did, because I don't have the guts to tell my customers "I can't take your money". They want to tip. I remember one night I worked window and it was rough (window is the worst position) and i hated it. And a woman came through and gave me a dollar and said no understand working fast food." It wasn't much, but I was grateful. It meant a lot to me. I just don't turn down tips.

I thought I didn't hear the employee "donation" policy correctly so I went back and replayed it - I heard it right the first time. I will never, ever donate to Goodwill again. This is the second time within a week that I'm hearing about Goodwill policies. They need to close!!!!!
0:28 - That hasn't been Goodwill's mission for several years now. They no longer employ people to repair non-working donated items, and they charge more for USED clothing than a person can pay for something new at Wal-Mart.
I asked an employee at a Goodwill (not in TN) if they wash donated clothes & such before they sell them & she said No. So... wait... what if clothes & blankets come from a house with bedbugs then?
They used to spray everything years ago but I don't think they do anymore because of EPA rules on pesticides. My dear mother used to say wash everything and if it was furniture or something big she said to spray it and leave it outside for a few days before bringing it in .
