Good stuff. I use SmartThings to load items into Hoobs so the MiniHub still works. It’s extra step and equipment, but my non smart home friendly family members don’t see it and it just works.
I am using HOOBS on my Raspberry Pi B3 to link all my non HomeKit gear into HomeKit it has had its challenges but has been great so far. Looking forward to adding more fun things to my HomeKit setup
@@ShaneCreates having to do 2 resets because it wouldn’t remove devices after plugin was removed is a huge headache but then looked into it and doing a Reset for HomeKit fixes it I was almost pulling my hair out hahaha
Good review Shane. Agree that it’s a pretty janky-looking device tho. Seems like something for the guy who has run out of things to automate...but still wants to automate things. 😏
Haha thanks Brad. There’s always something we can find to automate! I’ve been asked about these by a number of people, especially after my last SwitchBot video. If you do have curtains, they are a great way to automate them. However they definitely look best when you can hide them behind the curtains.

Could you do a video maybe explaining why companies aren’t adapting to Home Kit negatively. I mean, typically most things that Apple does is great. Is it cheaper elsewhere?
It’s completely up to the manufacturers if they want to add support for HomeKit. I do know that it’s hardest to pass certification for HomeKit support which is why many companies either don’t bother to or add support later. It probably takes more time and resources.
Thanks Nicki! It depends if you need indoor or outdoor cameras. For affordable indoor, I'd look at the Eufy indoor cameras. I haven't used them personally but they are some of the most affordable homekit cameras and many people speak highly of them. Two others to look at for indoors are Aqara G2H and Eve, but they both cost a little more. For outdoor, I like the Circle View unless you need wireless, then I'd go for Eufy Cam 2. I've done reviews on most of these. Check out the HomeKit Carera Playlist on my channel.
Hi Shane. Brilliant tutorial ! Congrats. Got my SWitchbot Curtain yesterday and installed it according to your tutorial. Works PERFECT ! Question: The plugin allows also a "Bot Switch" as a device. Like yourself I am already using one ( believe or not: also for my coffeemaker ) and I am now wondering if I should switch that BOY from IFFT to this new plug-in. Any experience on your side ?
Thanks Michael! If you are using this method and it's reliable enough for your curtains, then I'd say sure, you can use it for your switchbot button presser also. This method is more limiting than IFTTT, as mentioned, because it relies on that bluetooth. Therefore where you place your hoobs box will make a difference and which is why I prefer the IFTTT method. You can probably configure the button presser with this plugin, without messing with the ifttt configuration, just to try it out.
Great video, I have been on the fence with getting these, I am deeply immersed in Homekit. One question after watching the video. I noticed the curtain rod was an extendable one, was there any issue with the SwitchBot moving over the area where the rod size changes?
Thanks Danny. I got mine working fine.I had a little issue at first, but then I just loosened the switchbot so it wasn't quite so tight on that side, and it was able to move over that transition fine. It may also depend on the design of your specific curtain rod.
@@ShaneCreates Thanks for the response, that sounds good to me, I have a small transition looks similar to what I noticed in the video. It’s an IKEA curtain rod. I think I’m going to give it a go!
Hi Shawn. Love your channel. I installed HOOBS on a Synology (out of the main area of the house) and the problem I see when installing the SwitchBot plugin is that... there is no Bluetooth connection at all!!! So it is impossible to make it work. Am I right?
Hi Shane, sorry for this deviating question, but when i use the terminal window in hoobs, after a command it says i dont have the necessary rights. Is this something you also ran into before? How can I grant myself the admin rights i'm apparently lacking? Thanks man!
If you have an extended rod this will not work. Funny how that does not get called out but I guess when you get it for free you avoid mentioning that kind of stuff... If you are interested in this product, do your research if you are using an extended rod, and don't just count on this guy only.
This product is a scam. Can't get support at all (check the FB page), no number to call, misleading information from the site. Lost all respect for the guy doing the review. What a sellout you are. People come to you for advice and trust what you say and you push junk like this?
Great product and Great video! My curtains are just like the ones you assembled for the sake of the video, son big, big, big thank you for your video!! Hope to win the giveaway in instagram (there I'm participating as Cloud006), this product is still expensive...nevertheless, I have a SwitchBot button press, and its great! :) this video is better than the ones made by the company itself haha
I saw this bot the other day and was wondering about HomeKit, so you timed this perfectly!

If switchbot wants to sponsor a video, they should be willing to add HomeKit support.
I’d love to see native HomeKit support added to these.

I really can't justify spending 200 on one curtain.

Great vid. To work with hoobs do you also need the switch bit mini hub? Thanks
If you are using the bluetooth method highlighted in this video, then no. If you are using the ifttt method, then yes.
if I open the application in Homekit I do not see that the position has changed, it can be done
Would be good for high clear story window shading.
Can you review TP-Link Kasa with HomeBridge?
Can you tell it to open only one side?

The synology nas doesn’t have a Bluetooth radio transmitter/receiver. You need to get a HOOBS box for that.
Yea you need to be using a device that has Bluetooth like the hoobs box. You should be able to use the ifttt method that I mentioned tho.

No, sorry, I don't recall seeing that before. Try reaching out to hoobs support. They probably have an easy fix.

Hi, can I use the SwitchBot curtain with iOS shortcut without the hub ?
Struggling pre coffee here. Where’s the link to Eric’s video?
Sorry here it is. He discusses the smart things method towards the end. ua-cam.com/video/0l7PNUu8Pdk/v-deo.html
Are they planning to get HomeKit certification any time soon?
That would be awesome, but I haven't heard anything regarding that.

Smart Fans?
Do i need the switchbot hub if i’ll use hoobs?
to connect to homekit do i need the switchbot hub or is the hoobs method enough
I'd recommend using the SwitchBot hub. You can use the bluetooth method, but it's not as reliable as the other that utilizes the hub's connectivity.
Dude, like the content normally. But how can you keep integrity when you are getting paid for the review?
I never claim for this to be a review. I’m sharing the product and it’s features and showing you how to incorporate it into HomeKit via Hoobs.
