@travel9to5 the overwhelming majority of noise in cities is caused by vehicle traffic. There's a really good video by Not Just Bikes called Cities Aren't Loud: Cars Are about the city of Delft, which takes noise pollution extremely serious, and the measures they have taken to reduce it. Not to say spending time in nature is bad or unneeded, just that things can be improved.
I'm a town boy, lived in a city for 4 years... I went totally crazy. I have glasses, but I'm very depended on hearing for my awareness. I make a joke where without glasses I see better, because you're forced to use other stimuli to be aware. I notice without Silence my thought process is very different, alot shorter, conjucted and just overal Meh. (very result focused, rather than just sitting with your thoughts(as if I'm in a constant state of hurry) In Silence I can think about something for 15 minutes straight, build upon it, day-dream away... etc. I need my daily walk, I need to hear some birds. (bird also make different sounds with different meaning, it's really fun once you get to reconize different sounds from the same type of bird) Also another thing (atleast in Netherlands) cat's become a real problem in city, no bird is safe from that small little cuddly tiger...
My neighborhood has become louder last few years and live around a lot of water. Am often conscious and sad for all the animals for how loud it is here.

Remember dolphins in Venice during the shutdown. They probably noticed how quiet everything became and had to see if we still existed
to be clear, cities are loud because of cars, not the people
No other noise ?

Acoustic ecologist sounds like a cool job
Thank you for this well crafted vid. Even more reason to care for nature as humans
