Korg Kross 2 for the synth layers & strings...Yamaha Mx for the acoustic instruments especially ac pianos...it all have to do with one's personal taste & preference....2 awesome sounding keyboards...a win win!!!
You could argue that the MX61 has slightly better? acoustic sounds but I think the Kross would cut through much better in a mix. In the end the choice is what you think suits your needs. They are both great at this price point!
I've worked in a music store selling all varieties of synthesiser to portable keyboards, workstations. Etc. From my personal experience yamaha does have rich acoustic sounds. Like guitar and some woodwind instruments like soprano sexaphone. But it's string , bass and drums aren't really as good as Korg. If you compare them both in person with good sound system you will find that korg sounds richer even though it's sound engine is not as compatible to XG yamaha series like motif. One other thing is programing. You will find that the 16 track sequencing is much better then yamaha. Where by yamaha is limited. No matter how good their sound engine is. Personally I'm still a fan of Korg, Roland, Alesys, and Hammond when it comes to sounds like the pipe organ and etc.
I have both and like them both for different things. The Korg to me though is a better base keyboard instrument and the Yamaha excels at backup keyboard parts! I really like the Favorites and Set List options on the Korg which make it easy for me to switch to my favorite sounds quickly. However, being able to see 2 sounds at a time and switch to them and layer or split them on the Yamaha is also very handy for my background parts. I really love the Phat Korg Piano a lot after playing it in the band. I typically like to play the main keyboard sounds I use an octave lower than default so I had to save them all that way. Also I wish they didn't default all the sounds to have a drum kit and an arpeggiator on them so you have to turn them off---they should be additive features and not default, but you can save them how you want to.
I'm about to replace a broken MX61, so I decided to try something different, since my last four live keyboards have been Yamahas. The Kross 2 was on my short list, but one show-stopping feature (or lack thereof) took it off for me: on an MX61, you can change a patch (or bring in a layer) while holding down the sustain pedal and the change won't hit until you lift your foot. This is great to have, since if, say, I want to add strings to a piano for the chorus, I don't have to hit the layer button exactly on the downbeat of the chorus--I can hit it a bit early, so that when the chorus hits, I can be playing keys with both hands, instead of pushing a button with one hand. The Kross 2 changes as soon as you touch the button, whether you're sustaining or not. I ended up ordering a Roland Juno DS61 for that reason.

I am a Yamaha guy generally, but from this demo I prefer the Kross 2 over the MX for most of the sounds other than flute and Wurlitzer electric piano. I have played an MX before, and own a Motif XF8, so I do have some reference. However, UA-cam videos do not always show exactly how something will sound in person.

EPs are always just subjective in my opinion. If the sound is pleasant and fits the song then who cares if it sounds exactly like the original? The dynamics and how well velocity switching is handled is more important and this wasn't really tested here. I'd give the edge to the MX61 on those criteria though.
Thanks so much for this demo/comparison. It's really helpful to me. In my opinion, the piano & the strings sound better on the Kross 2 than the MX61. But the flute & the clavinet sound better on the MX61. In general, both sound good but I prefer the Kross 2. The Kross 2 looks really sleek with the curvy sides but the first & last keys are exposed (on the side) so you have to be careful while carrying this keyboard, otherwise those keys might break. Thanks again.

Very helpful as I am considering both of these. Disclaimer - I am a guitarist, playing keys is a third or fourth instrument at best and I play keys like a guitar player! I can clearly hear the differences, but it would have been helpful to me to know what patches were being compared, and to also hear some layers, although that would have made the video much longer, I realize! Coming at it as a guitarist, while some of the acoustic piano and even some of the EP sounds were maybe more "natural" on the Yamaha, I have to think that in a band situation that subtlety would not hold up. The Korg sounds like it would push the mix stronger. That might carry over to recording as well; maybe not. It also looked like the key action was a bit more natural on the Yamaha, but that was just observation and maybe not accurate. Thanks again though, very helpful!
I love Yamaha, but the build quality wasn't there in my opinion on the MX. It sounds great, but feels cheap to me. I'm buying a Kross 2, unfortunately It's a blind purchase. No one around here has 1 I can play.
It's kinda hard to say which one's better, but I get the feeling the Korg's trying to represent instruments while the Yamaha is trying to represent the way older Yamaha synths and workstations failed to perfectly represent instruments which they're so loved and cherished for today. A bit more situational than the Korg.
One of my favorite flute layers on the Yamaha is the "Sweet Flute" and the "2 Flute" I give the Sweet Fluit more volume to be more pronounced. Then I add just a touch of chorus and the stereo field really opens up. Sounds fantastic.
Yep, that MX flute is gorgeous. I have the Korg too, wish the flute was better on it, great vibraphone, though. Probably doesn't matter to most folks, but I play flute and was amazed by the MX flute.
NO NO NO. yamaha piano is shiet. decay sounds soooo synthetic, she sound like decays and then at some point freezes for EVER... its like 100% deal breaker. You can hear it here. At first it feels like minor prblm, but when you notice it, thats for ever
Both are good but Korg has more full-body. Korg is like you are right up close to the instrument while the Yamaha has some room and space as if you were sitting further away from the instrument, whether it be a piano, or strings, or whatever.
Brother, the sound of the Kross seems to be more "chubby" ... but the Mx excels and much in quality (my opinion) although it seems a little less "chubby" ... (nothing a good edition does not solve, compressor, Eq, etc.) Congratulations on the video and everyone else !! I follow your channel to times, and for me is the best when it comes to demonstration of instruments and equipment.
I have used both extensively, being into ultra-lightweight keyboards that promise good quality sound. I play the MX a lot, and I've loaned the Kross (1, not 2, I admit, but I think the sounds are the same?) to a friend. The Kross' plusses are a) You can make more detailed Combi's with a greater number of different parts, on the synth itself. b) the sounds kind of jump out at you. (but that is a negative too, they can start sounding artificial at times.) The Yamaha has a better feeling keyboard to me, the Korg's being very springy - but you do get used to it, although you have to kind of 'pretend' you're playing a real keyboard, it does work after you get used to it. But on the other hand, the Yamaha can sound organ-like when you are in a band context. This is good for its ability to 'fill in' a band's sound, but the Korg has a different kind of more useful midrange dynamic. I was constantly making up new EP and Organ sounds thru editing on the Kross, not because you can, which IS a nice feature, but because the ones they provide, and the ones you can tweak them into, aren't quite satisfying. The Yamaha MX's EP's are really fantastic, as are some of their organ patches. That's why the Yamaha MX(49) is right here next to me, and the Kross is at a friend's place. I pick it up right before the holiday season, because with its (the Kross') superior "Multi' ability, I've programmed a bunch of Combi's in it that i use in Holidelic, a wild inclusive xmas funk band. To be fair, I did do one or two great local gigs on just the Kross 61 and a Hammond SK-1, that covered all the bases, and fooled everyone, hah! PS: on this very fine and useful muzykuj video, it sounds to me like, though both are excellent piano patches, the Korg Kross has a lot of well distributed transient info, but it decays too quickly for my taste.
Great descriptions. I too have used both Korg and Yamaha. It's so true that the Korg sounds jump out at you and I found that good for creating but not always so good while playing in a band. Sometimes you need to sounds to ease in and fill in the sound, not jump out of nowhere so abruptly. Better dynamics on the Yamaha too, as you said.
The Yamaha made me feel more emotion especially the pianos and we're more subtle and dark, very good in my opinion. Korg synth sounds are better though
I love my older Yamaha for the feel but have been using the K2 for over a year and find it to be easy to tweek. Both brands do a great job and cost less than a lot of their competitors.
I think I will buy the Kross 88 and the MX 49 to get the concert piano sound which I believe to be the best. It wont cost too much and I'll get the best of both worlds. ADD: After looking in detail the manuals for both models the Yamaha is very limited when it comes to modify the sounds. essentially you can change the attack, sustain, cutoff and resonance. There are LFOs to modulate the amplitude and pitch which for me is important if I want to be able to create my own sounds. Just for his reason, I would go for the Kross 2 or maybe consider the Juno DS from roland in about he same price range.
I have both now and selling the Kross and keeping the MX. The Kross has the midi and audio recorder advantage, but soundwise, except from Electric pianos and Synth sounds, (good on both boards, each in its own way), the MX beats the Kross on all other instruments. I would say that Electric Bass, Acoustic Drums and Organs are the instruments where there is the bigger gap in quality, in favour of the MX. The acoustic pianos are also more realistic on the MX
Six in one, half a dozen in the other. Both have their strengths. Yamaha sounded slightly better to me with piano, Korg's strings were better...it alternated back and forth for the most part. If I had to pick a winner on sound alone overall, a very slight edge to Yamaha. However, Korg has a pretty cool sampler with pads. I'm guessing the Yamaha does too? I did see what appear to be sample pads. Don't think you can go wrong either way.
It's like the SNES v Megadrive Question, this is the best comparison video. I bought the KORG after this video but there's very little difference in sound capabilities. I just love the KORG old school synth sounds. I would love to try the Juno tho!
OK, a question for gigging musicians: which one of these, or perhaps a closely matched and priced competitor (DS61?) would prove to be most useful on stage? I think I would be happy with the sound of either one; what about play-ability, changing bank/registers, on the fly adjustments, splits and layers and switching thereof, etc. Thanks for any useful info anyone can provide! Oh, and can I run my bass guitar through any of them? On several songs I swap back and forth, using the Right split and output for keys bass. Tone and volume I can match really well with my Casio, each going to the amp separately, but it would be nice to take both through the same effects chain.
My friend, I've tested the modx and I felt really disappointed. It sounds with no more punch than MX. It doesn't mean modx is bad, but it means that there's no sense to buy more for the Modx
@@italo_spotter bro, i has 4 keys nord electro 6d, korg tr, mx and modx i love modx becoz it is similar to montage and superior sound quality... For stage purpose and for recording i definitely take modx and tr with me... Modx is superior workstation...
The Kross is warmer, but I like the larger range of frequencies that I'm hearing on the mx. It's easier to subtract freqs with an eq than to add them in later.
The problem with Yamaha is they put reverb by default on just about everything. And you think it sounds better until you sample the dry wave. I have both boards. Korg doesn't drown every sound out in reverb. Each has their own strengths and weaknesses. But The MX61 and it's big brother are not the same. I have that one too.
Comes down to features. Sounds are all personal preference. If you listen to the Korg Kronos and MX...huge difference. Also, in price. However, these two are very similar in sound and it comes down to one's personal taste. The features on the MX are superior to me than the Kross. I used both in the store with DAW and the MX is more easy friendly. However, I do wish that the MX had a pad. Also, you save a little more money on the MX.
I got yamaha mx hoping for this great piano sound, but there is occasions that something very synthetic sticks out. Mostly the problem is with sustained sound, just pure digital synthesis. I was hoping it to replace my dinosaur M3, but not this time.
Same problem with my psr e 463 yamaha, sometimes while playing the piano voice with sustain, one or two notes in apassage would play out piano harmonic ,which is thin sounding like guitar harmonic
The top is basically a motif and the bottom seems to slightly upgraded with the piano sound. Korg is surprisingly good but it is being compared to a motif basically
Yamaha is better in changing sounds without cut but quality of sounds in Korg is best. Piano sounds in played in Korg is just for entry to learn editing sounds. There are so many pianos including Bollywood pianos Yamaha will have to take years to make such sounds.
I just sold my Korg Krome 61 and got the MX61...Korg was better ant phat synth but the MX blows it away in the Piano and EP category. And with the Vycro MX software ..you can do amazing, thick layered textures and splits
#1- in a band context, you are lucky to even be in the mix so the better piano or sounds dont matter when they are this close. #2- if you just set it and forget it one synth might sound better than the other but I'll change patches many times even in a song. Korg offers 8 banks of 16 pads so you can have your favorite combinations and programs easily available. Good luck being heard after the guitars come in and the deaf sound man is texting his boyfriend. . .
Really can't give it a fair comparison because with the oscillator both keyboards can be tweak to sound the same. This is the power of midi synthesis if you know what you're doing.
to compare kross has more weight punch sounds. for my perspective.however x61 has brighter sounds. for budget get x61. to play sequence as work station at home. just my humble opinion. no offence means.

Yamaha MX, for most instruments sounds better, (especially piano) and has a better keyboard but you can't record your songs in it like on the Kross.
Oh yeah, I’m feeling´ya. Those Yamaha flutes are dope, bro.
Hello!
I own a Yamaha MOXF 61, & for me, Korg goes par with Yamaha, if not better. I am getting the Kross 2 soon
The strings and brass are better on Korg I think
One of my favorite flute layers on the Yamaha is the "Sweet Flute" and the "2 Flute" I give the Sweet Fluit more volume to be more pronounced. Then I add just a touch of chorus and the stereo field really opens up. Sounds fantastic.
Yep, that MX flute is gorgeous. I have the Korg too, wish the flute was better on it, great vibraphone, though. Probably doesn't matter to most folks, but I play flute and was amazed by the MX flute.
Korg won the visuals, all strings and synth.
Yamaha won the all piano tone..
Both are preferable🎉
Here's a result :
Piano = Yamaha
Piano + String = Korg
Clavinet = Korg
Organ = Korg
Violin/Cello = Yamaha
Strings = Yamaha
Electric Piano 1 = Yamaha
Wurlyzer = Korg
Steel Guitar = Yamaha
Flute = Yamaha
Synth = Yamaha
"Synth = Yamaha"

Piano is better in Yamaha but layer piano and strings is better in Korg
So, wich one it's better for beat making and music production?
Greetings from Switzerland 🇨🇭
Korg will be better
NO NO NO. yamaha piano is shiet. decay sounds soooo synthetic, she sound like decays and then at some point freezes for EVER... its like 100% deal breaker. You can hear it here. At first it feels like minor prblm, but when you notice it, thats for ever
No...strings better Yamaha too
Piano on any budget synth is going to be lacking in some way. I guess they don't want the piano sounds to compete with their actual digital pianos.
To achando que editaram o piano do MX61.
Estenderam a ressonância.
Grande mestre Carlinhos...
Thanks
I just got the mx49. The sounds are great, I can’t figure out how to save patches for live use. Any suggestion? Thanks!
@@peterdvideos i just bought MX88, and still not expertize using it. But I guess you will need an external USB memory stick.
Outra diferença e que
o yamaha mx 61 e um sinthetizador
O korg kross e um workstation

@@victorevangelista5633 o kross 2 é o soa melhor no PA?

I own the MX61 along with the Vycro MX software...its amazing
Can you create your own splits and layers with the Vycro software? I mean more than two patches...
@@CDK11 Fuck yeah...16 sounds and many layers and multiple splits..This keyboard was instantly better after I found this software
Cool comparison. Sounds like they're both winners. Just personal preferences to guide you.
I have the MX-49. Yamaha's always sound darker or duller. Good or bad? it is a preference thing I guess.
The Yamaha made me feel more emotion especially the pianos and we're more subtle and dark, very good in my opinion. Korg synth sounds are better though
I have the same impression
Korg for me since I play on a Korg M1. Peace everyone!
For me too.. M1, X3, X50 currently, kross 2 next... I love Korg!!
To rozumiem. Gratulacje za pomysł. Bardzo przydatne porównanie próbek - brzmień obu tych instrumentów
Będzie jeszcze Juno DS do kompletu :)
great demonstration both great synthesizer
I love my older Yamaha for the feel but have been using the K2 for over a year and find it to be easy to tweek. Both brands do a great job and cost less than a lot of their competitors.
Kross has better synth sounds, Yamaha better acoustic sounds as usual
Yes...always
yeah,as usual
Sums it up.
Ur right ✔
Where can I get a new or uses mx61 or a mx49 keyboard.. Help needed
I’ll take the Korg but the new Mx series feels feel better for sure
I have a MX88. Same great sounds with a weighted feel 88 note keyboard that only weighs about 30#. Nice.
Please tell me honestly about cross key's mechanism.
I think its good to have both keyboards in a band, the MX61 for main and the Kross for support
Marc Chester Rivera agreeee
Marc Chester Rivera plus, a Roland keyboard.
So you have the “Big Three” keyboard in your setting on a stage.
I have the MX88 piano action keyboard...and the MX49 that i use for soloing and additional layers.
honestly these two would complement each other nicely....what doesnt sound nice in kross sounds better in yamaha and vice versa
Sometimes I like the Yamaha better sometimes the Korg.
Great comparison though, thanks.
It's like the SNES v Megadrive Question, this is the best comparison video. I bought the KORG after this video but there's very little difference in sound capabilities. I just love the KORG old school synth sounds. I would love to try the Juno tho!
Please, tell me more about key's mechanism
@@thepeller210 lol, same here, but the keys are definitely better on the Juno, I think
I have a MX49 but I'm considering switching to a Kross 2 because of the Mellotron Samples which are an important addition for me.
Don't

Kross2 is a real hero. Where it generates a authentic sound.
You should do a comparison with Yamaha Mx61 vs Modx 61.
My friend, I've tested the modx and I felt really disappointed. It sounds with no more punch than MX. It doesn't mean modx is bad, but it means that there's no sense to buy more for the Modx
The MODX is FM synthesis. Is the MX61? I don't think so.
MODX is infinitely superior. No comparison.
@@italo_spotter bro, i has 4 keys nord electro 6d, korg tr, mx and modx i love modx becoz it is similar to montage and superior sound quality... For stage purpose and for recording i definitely take modx and tr with me... Modx is superior workstation...
hmm sometimes the cut off on the korg is quicker so you get a sense it is more real but the Yamaha is amazing i want one
Korg always and forever✌🎹
That Kross sounds Amazing
1:47 i feel it... Never give up 😁
😆😆😅
they ALL sound great in the vids. a great pa helps you can bet. where they fall down is in the middle register when playing chords.
I'm torn between the two. Can you please tell me more?
Comes down to features. Sounds are all personal preference. If you listen to the Korg Kronos and MX...huge difference. Also, in price. However, these two are very similar in sound and it comes down to one's personal taste. The features on the MX are superior to me than the Kross. I used both in the store with DAW and the MX is more easy friendly. However, I do wish that the MX had a pad. Also, you save a little more money on the MX.
The MX has a slight edge over the Acoustic Sounds
Kross is better when it comes to the Synth section.
Download the Oasys piano for Kross.
Roland and korg is best in piano. Yamaha is good in synts. And
Eletric piano
The top is basically a motif and the bottom seems to slightly upgraded with the piano sound. Korg is surprisingly good but it is being compared to a motif basically
Yamaha is better in changing sounds without cut but quality of sounds in Korg is best. Piano sounds in played in Korg is just for entry to learn editing sounds. There are so many pianos including Bollywood pianos Yamaha will have to take years to make such sounds.
Thanks... Yamaha is the winner to my ears seems warmer and more natural
I have a Korg Kross 2, but I would like to know which is better in terms of electric guitars?

I just sold my Korg Krome 61 and got the MX61...Korg was better ant phat synth but the MX blows it away in the Piano and EP category. And with the Vycro MX software ..you can do amazing, thick layered textures and splits
Korg sem dúvidas, mais pegado timbre
Thank you! Now I know what kind of synthesizer I need! Yamaha MX61!!!
Good luck being heard after the guitars come in and the deaf sound man is texting his boyfriend. . .
which one has better keys?
Which is better? Yamaha motif 6 or yamaha mx61? Thanks
Really can't give it a fair comparison because with the oscillator both keyboards can be tweak to sound the same. This is the power of midi synthesis if you know what you're doing.
nah, MX can't compete in synth sounds, Kross can't compete in piano, no amount of tweaking will change this, among many other things
The MX piano has got the metal string click sound. It's more realistic. Kross is more studio warm piano sound.
can say before watching the vid: yamaha dissapointed me, now lookin to get the Kross 2... Good idea?
way better machine, so long as acoustic piano isn't a priority
Yamaha piano sounds wins coz they are a major piano maker and has placing in all concert piano and one of the best piano sounding
