  • DIY ROOF TOP SHOWER No Compressor Needed - My Viral Tik Tok Video
This simple device went viral on Tik Tok multipe times. I use it to spray salt water off fishing gear and is not to be used for drinking water.

I'm going to make this and use for a quick outside shower while camping in hot areas. Thank You.

I would not advise letting this water touch your skin!

Nice design, I like the simplicity. I'm going to give it a try.
    Thanks for sharing your build!

You can skip those! I also don't control the commercials

You're right, you're not a plumber! Furnaces don't have pressure relief valves.
    Water heaters do!

I have been a professional plumber for 15 years I live in a city where the water pressure is insane like 120psi and I have seen hundreds of houses built with pvc water lines. PVC isn't rated for that but pvc "exploding" is highly unlikely imo

I think it's the sunlight that degrades it over time compared to it being in a house.

Awesome idea. Thank you for sharing. About how much water do you think you can get in the pipe?

Very nice, will do something like that

If it was wrapped with reflective foil tape it would protect it from UV damage, keep it from getting too hot and derating the safe working pressure, and also it would unofficially increase the max pressure capabilities and in the unlikely chance of it bursting or exploding, the tape may prevent it from turning into dangerous pieces of shrapnel

Nice! Schedule 80 would give you more safety margin. Schedule 40 and schedule 80 minimum required burst pressure is 710 and 1110 psi respectively. There maximum operating pressure recommended is 133 and 194 psi again respectively.
At 140°F the strength is decreased by 20%.
The nice thing about a air tire fitting is you can use a cheap battery-operated compressor to quickly boost that final gallon to more usable pressures. Of course there's a lot to be said for knowing how close you are to running out LOL.
As far as explosions go, seems that the air is at the top, if there was a break the air release would quickly entrain a lot of the water and reduce the rapid expansion thus the explosive effect.
A cool video would be to take a prefilled pipe tank and pressurize it to the point of failure. I would suggest using even lighter weight piping to make it easier to fail at the pressures that would normally be experienced with your system.

Sched 80 is hard to find at the box stores and way more expensive

Do you worry about water hammer (water sloshing at high velocity in case you stop fast or have an accident) if your roof tank is half full? I like your design but have read about this being a possible serious issue. Am considering making one that is U-shaped and perpendicular to the direction of travel. Thanks for sharing. Especially about your pressure relief valve.

I am worried about it. I also use the whole thing when I go to use it.

Budy thank you! Is there any possibility to increase the pressure duration?

More water, or add compressed air

How well does it work in cooler weather? If it’s 50 outside is the shower warm?

It's not insulated so it does cool off but it holds it's heat pretty good

How much water is left in the tank when you run out of pressure? Would an air valve give you more water usage?

    • @BendItFishing
      @BendItFishing  10 місяців тому

It's pretty much empty. Adding a valve would relieve the pressure to fast

With the amount of pressure that you're applying, has your pressure relief valve ever popped off with temp changes.

Good effort, but can be very dangerous to self and to others to be driving around with a min 75psi pressurized pipe on your roof. I highly recommend adding a Schrader valve to pressurize the tank when needed and when parked and also a pressure release valve to depressurize the tank after use and when the vehicle is moving. That is also why commercial manufacturers of car water tanks and other diy car water tanks use a Schrader Valve to pressurize the tank when the vehicle is parked and also depressurized it using the pressure release valve before getting on the road again. Folks, our DIYs projects are ideas and may not have the needed R and D for safety done, and that is why it is essential to use logic and research multiple sources to end with a safe and effective DIY project.

It has a pressure relief valve set to 100 psi which is less than half of what the PVC is rated for at high average temperature.

Also, any vessel that ruptured while it is full of water will not explode, it would only cause a small leak at which point the pressure would dissipate... Compressed air is only dangerous because air is compressible but water is not compressible so it does not explode under tank failures.
