    Highly recommend you find a good gaffer and a good AC to work with. It will bring your work to a much higher level. Rigging your camera is not something you should be concerned with, your AC will do that for you. Tell them how you want it set up and they will get it going for you. Same with the lighting plan, a gaffer will bring it to life. Be a "Director of Photography" not a I do everything guy. Trust me, you will be less stressed and have more mental capacity to put into the image. I know how it can be when the budgets are low but at the very least have a grip or assistant with you.

    • @davidmorefield
      @davidmorefield  Рік тому +1

      Yeah when I have an assistant it really helps with the mundane tasks. I’d love to get into higher level shoots with dedicated AC’s and gaffers. But like you said, finding those budgets can be hard.

    Depending on the project, I like to tell clients it takes 1 to 2 hours from arrival Until we can start recording their interview.
    That gives me plenty of time from loading my gear onto a cart and getting it inside and setup/tested.
    Load out is definitely less. 30-45min.

    Love these videos so much. Perfect blend of knowledge, story-telling, and personal touches. I loved the final scene of you walking to the Thai restaurant. I could sense the relief and satisfaction you must have felt after conquering the day. Well done, my man!

      Pad Thai saved the day.
      And thanks for noticing. I’m trying to make it educational but also entertaining. Glad to hear it’s being well received.
      What’s also funny is the difference in the energy of my voice on site at the beginning vs the end. I’m way more tired. And usually the voiceover is filmed after where I’m even more tired haha

    Tight package brother! Sure does look complete. Being a solo operator is gonna be so much more of a a breeze for you now. The goal is always to have your equipment be an extension of your creativity and not a separate entity. “You’re kit is working for you”.
    Definitely breakdowns are slower than setups for me. Solely because I find myself re-processing the shoot and visualizing the final edit before the editing process.
    Awesome video as usual. Keep blazing.

    Really great solution for your pre-built rig!

    Oh man! Flat tires suck! Loving your rig and that bag! Regarding changing frame rates - I have the Sony A7siii and it has a dial that you can set to whatever you want. I have #1 set to my normal 24 fps settings (including recording settings), #2 for 60p and #3 for 120p. Since the Fx 6 is almost the same camera - I would expect that you can set the buttons on the left side, under the S&Q button in a similar way. Check it out, I might be right (or, wrong!)

    Haha I take forever packing up unless there’s a real rush to get out. I really like taking time to make sure every cable, piece of kit, makes its way into the right spot. On some larger productions, where the gear isn’t personally owned (belongs to a large production company), I see crew poorly wrapping cables, throwing gear in the wrong bins, packing the truck wrong, just to get out 30-40 mins earlier… it drives me crazy.

    Nice video. Interesting to see how you set up your camera, and what that means for client relations/focus. Also interview shoots take significantly longer to set up than break down for me cause always fine tunings things/trying to figure out what the best angle is, level for the lights, scanning wireless channels etc. Breakdown just focuses on where things go, and what makes sense to pack up first.

    Man, I want a SmallHD for their false color alone. So much easier to read face exposure. I've screwed up a few times on the C70 by misidentifying middle gray. Question ... because you use a locked-off camera for interviews, what rules of composition do you employ? I'm never sure how to frame the torso because some people speak with their hands ... and do so at different height relative to their waists. Nothing worse than having hands half-in the frame.

      Normally I just put them on a 1/3 of the image and have their eye line look across the other 2/3rds. Bottom of the chest to a bit above the head. Leave some head room. Keep their eyes near the top horizontal third.
