    Gregg, that is a bad mammer jammer! You asked for suggestions for what to cook so here goes. I'd like to see something simple like a pork but. Show us in detail how to control the smoker. Show us how evenly or unevenly it cooks from left to right, front to back and top to bottom. Also if you use the water reservoir, how easy is it to use and clean out. Also, something I've been wanting to see and there are no videos that I can find and that's how to clean it up after. And do you reseason the inside and outside. Do you hose it out or leave the grease build up for seasing. That's one of those subjects that can cause a big controversy but if your a hose it out type of guy show us that please good sir. So then after that smoke cook then obviously let's see some griddle action on that bad boy! That's my request, sir.
    Oh hey, around the 4 minute mark I noticed when you slid the air dampener back and forth, from this side of the camera it appeared the bolts and washers were spinning/moving like they are not tightly fastened. Are they supposed to be loose like that? Brother I'm sorry for the long long comment. I want one of those pits so so bad! I'm saving up and hopefully in a year or so I'll have mine, so until then please keep the LSG videos comming! Cheers to ya my friend and have a great day.

      Thanks Rusty. Great suggestions! Those nuts are locked into position so that the bolts kind of roll like bearings. Thanks again!

      Rusty KC great request, if I can piggyback a request as well please, I am interested in knowing more about your offset experience in comparison with this one. I have not owned an offset smoker and I am considering one as well.
      Once you get the fire set to temperature and you atart your smoke, how often will you have to add additional split wood? For example a 10hr smoke how often and how much split red oak will be required to maintain your avg 225° smoke?
      Thanks for the detailed video, it answered several questions for me. What was the determining factor that helped you choose the 1/2" firebox over the insulated firebox?
      Congratulations on your newest investment!🍻

    • @BallisticBBQ
      @BallisticBBQ  6 років тому +2

      I'll have a better idea how this compares to my horizontal offset after my first cook on it tomorrow. I can tell you that during the seasoning process it was very efficient with it's wood consumption. The main reason I opted for the 1/2" instead of the insulated is the fact that it just doesn't get cold here in San Diego. I mean, 50ºF is considered cold here and that would be in the winter time. The 1/2" will retain heat better than 1/4", so that's what I went with. I ran this thing for about 8 hours when I seasoned it and it was very efficient in regards to wood consumption.

    Congratulations on your new LSG. I've had my 24x40 LSG offset for about a year. They are built like tanks. I have the 1/2 " firebox on mine too. Chris and his crew make beautiful pits and if you ever get the chance take a walk through his showroom. The place is awesome. I highly recommend them for anyone else looking for a bbq pit.

    Dammit man. I see you have a new tank to add to the motor pool of grills you have lined up next to this beast. I like the attention to detail this grill/smoker has. I was surprised about the flat steel griddle surface over the fire box. That was about the same size steel plate I used for the Burger Wars competition. It worked fabulous once seasoned. A much needed accessory.
    The casters are a much forgotten part of any movable grill so I've noticed. I'm glad that one had at least 5" casters to support the weight. I will say they should look into making all 4 swivel with locking pins if you decide to keep 2 in the stationary position. I relate this concept to the Snap On Tools Epiq model roll cabs that weigh 1k + empty. It makes it so easy to roll around and can be pushed straight back when rolling it left or right.
    I take it you can cook just about anything on the griddle while maintaining the constant low and slow transfer of heat into the main chamber. You'll have to elaborate more on that when you do a double cook on it with something more than hot dogs or hamburgers. I used a laser thermometer on my 1/2" plate steel to see the difference in the fire pit temp and the griddle temp. There was difference.
    This would be a great item to have if you're cooking for a fund raiser event, family reunion or a company cookout where you have lots of mouths to feed. This one is way too large for just a family cookout. I'm sure they have downsized models of this as well.
    I laugh at those snide comments that are thrown in here taking "pot shots" at you because of jealousy and laziness. Maybe if they got off their ass and supplied meaningful videos for others to see and learn from, they might possibly have a sponsor ring their phone or mail an invitation to be a "Pro Staff" representing a company to possibly boost profits and lower the costs of products to the consumer. I bet they never thought once of that scenario.
    Time to get that beast fired up and see a double cook one day, brother. Nice setup and as always. Hoo-ah!

  • @Tonnsfabrication
    @Tonnsfabrication 6 років тому

    It's a nice box for sure. LSG need to step up and make those racks adjustable and eventually insulate that cook chamber. If you insulate the smoker you don't need to build it out of 1/2" material, you can build it with .062 or.125. The difference shows up in the amount of fuel required to run the beast. I just finished building a commercial smoker and I can run it 8 hours on a small handful of coals and a few chunks of cherry.

    Can't wait to see the first cook on this vertical offset Greg! 1/2" fire box! Wow, that is seriously beefed up and it will be seriously efficient on wood as well. I noticed you had a second port below the gas assist for a air controller I'm assuming? Did you get the charcoal basket with this pit? It with a air controller works fantastic for over night cooks. Best darn smokers on the planet hands down!

    Greg, it’s great to see you back on an offset stick burner again! I’m interested in seeing how you use that unique LSG firebox with the griddle and the grill. I’m from the Houston area where LSG is manufactured. There are two other pit makers here in Houston, Gator Pits and David Klose Pits. These three are the best pit makers in the universe. I own a Gator Pit and I love it. I know you are always honest. May I ask what you would say comparing LSG to Gator Pit? Thanks and I am looking forward to your cooks on the LSG. Maybe do a shoulder clod on it?

    • @BallisticBBQ
      @BallisticBBQ  6 років тому +1

      Yes, I own a Party Gator and I really dig that pit. Tomorrow will be my first cook on the LSG, doing a couple racks of beef back ribs and a brisket, so I'll have an opinion on how it cooks by the end of the day. I can tell you this right now however. The details and workmanship in the LSG is Crazy Good, edging out GP a bit. Of course the rubber doesn't meet the road until it's cooking. I'll have a more definite answer very soon. Clod is on my "todo list" by the way.
