For YEARS I always thought it was "Pussy Cow". Had no clue it was "Go see Cal" until recently.
THANK YOU
Me and my sisters always thought it was Pussy Cow too. Especially this commercial where he has a Cow on the lot, lol. I just found out my wife thought that too, when she was a kid.
OMG yes! I thought the same thing.
Yes 😂
Same!!
R.I.P Cal Worthington. Seeing these commercials brings back memories of growing up in LA. I remember Cal's commercials coming on at all hours of the day on weekends. Cal Worthington is an Icon.
Me to grew up in San Bernardino now in Florida watch these all the time ❤miss my indland empire 😊
Ahhh and late night Wally George public TV.
And midnights
I remember these ads when I lived in Sacramento. He was an icon.
He was pretty cool. Remember when he got mauled by that tiger? Father of a friend got a good deal on that Monte Carlo with hood damage. Just turned 64 grew up in Santa Ana. Have a good day
I remember watching the legendary Cal Worthington on Saturday mornings in Compton ca!! His commercials were broadcast on Fat Albert, Soul Train, American Bandstand, etc, etc......GOOD TIMES!! Thank you!! 👍🏾💯

Wow, that really takes me back to my youth, growing up in SoCal. Too cool
For some reason we got these commercials in Alaska when I was little. 😊
Some of my most loved childhood memories is a Cal Worthington commercial 🤗
I remember the 80s....PUSSYCOW PUSSYCOW PUSSYCOW!
Snicker... mondegreen much? For those who don't get it... the correct phrase is "Go See Cal".
American hero Cal was a pilot of a B-17 flew 29 missions over Germany. He won the Distinguished Flying Cross medal presented to him by General Doolittle. He also trained some of the pilots who went on to be America's first astronauts.
This is true. My mother didn't like him but grandma told me 50 years ago that he was a WW2 pilot.
I was of course just a kid at that time and didn't really care (very embarrassing to later adult me).
I would repeat his jingles for effect and my brother (who is on the spectrum) would repeat his jingles as echolalia which really really got on Mom's nerves! 😆
Poosy 🐄 Poosy 🐄 Poosy 🐄,, cmon we all thought that's what he said.
Clearly singer is at times
I did, too.
Reading these comments, I'm both relieved and surprised how many people thought that. I thought it was just me!
Wow. This took me back. As a kid in the 80s, his commercials always cracked me up. Still to this day, I'll say, "And this is my dog, Spot"
Oh this guy. I still remember Cal Worthington and his "Dog Spot". I grew up in Southern California in the '70s. He expanded his dealerships all over the place in the '80s so a bigger audience got to see his "Dog Spot" (any animal BUT a dog, often something exotic like a tiger, parrot, or hippo. He was rather nutty this way
If you want a set of wheels go see Cal, if you want a better deal, go see Cal
If you want to save some money
And really please your honey
If you want to save some money go see Cal!
Yeah, long before the internet, kiddies, when we memorized commercial jingles and pissed off our parents by repeating them ad infinitum. Those were the days!
I grew up across the street from the dealership and the drive-in movie theater. The '80s were the best
I was looking for someone who lived close to comment.. So you obviously lived on Bellflower. We lived on Marber right off Bellflower on the same side as the Los Altos Drive-In and Worthington Ford.. Went to Prisk and Stanford.. Moved away before high school..🤙
R.I.P CAL WORTHINGTON
R.I.P CAL WORTHINGTON
The jingle has been rolling around in my mind since I was a kid!
I had no idea he was in so many city’s! I grew up in Alaska an I remember this as a kid
60s and 70s cars ROCKED. Trust me I had a Mustang. But my favorite was a 63 4 door Impala Super Sport I bought off a friend of mine's mother. His mom loved to tell us how he talked a dealer in Huntington beach to order a 4 door impala in Super Sport configuration. The Chevy dealer and Wilson Ford in Huntington Beach started having drag races at Orange County International Raceway with the dealer built cars.
105 octane leaded gas right out of the pump to haul ass.
I miss the 80’s
1984 and you could buy a brand new F150 for $7,000. 40 years later and they cost more than a house….
Wellll... It was about 10% the cost of a house in 84. My 2022 Lariat costs about 15% of the cost of my house. The system is designed that way.
I loved hearing these ads as a kid. But, for some reason I thought it was pussy-cow!
Loved his ads on Saturday mornings
At night too
Grew up in Santa Ana Orange County. I miss seeing Cal Worthington commercials. A friends father got a good deal on a chevy. I think it was a Monte Carlo. But he got a big discount on it because it had the hood Crush down to the air filter. And smelled like a tiger. Yeah he got that one. He even talked to dealership into putting Uniroyal tiger paw tires on it.
That is so cute. I suppose your friend's dad got the hood popped and washed? 🤪
Cal shows up on late night TV in the background of 1985's "Into the Night". It certainly sounded like "Pussy Cow" in that film.
This takes me back to my Seattle days in the 1980's. Cal Worthington had a dealership in south Seattle (Federal Way?) and ran his old SoCal commercials non-stop. His "dog spot" was always some exotic animal, from lions, tigers & monkeys, to even dolphins.
We used to get these commercial on Bay Area TV once in awhile, too, usually right before the station signed off for the night.
Most famous late night commercial and different animals was cals dog spot
I want a new F150 for $6695
It asked me to rate your comment, I chose🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
$6695 will get you the floor mats
Remember this while living in socal
This was the first commercial I remember, and I thought it was Cow Worthington and his dog Spot and the cow’s name was Boosie Cow.
I never knew he was ripped
Yeah, he was a stunt man after being in the army and before selling cars.
Holy Cal. Our wages have not kept up with inflation.
That guy was some dealer, he had many dealerships. The vehicle I remember him selling was the Suzuki Samurai as I recall it was $3000 or something new. Several kids in school bought them I remember that.
I remember that guy. I had this memory of a song stick it in your pocket. I don’t know. I remember weird shit.
Crazy king of kitch: Cal Worthington. Absolutely loved this whacky guy, and remembered looking forward to seeing what crazy creature he'd have walking, or SNARLING, next to his gregarious maniac self. This guy even strapped his maniacal ass to the front of a biplane in commercial. Definitely a prequel to the 'Jackass' franchise.
100% an OG.
LMAO! When I was little, I lived less than half a mile from Bellflower Blvd.
My buddy and I owned a '62 406 tripower galaxy, we tried to get Cal to sponsor us...
Needless to say, we never even achieved an audience.
How about the airplane one, done to the Go See Cal theme!!Crazy airplane stunts on that one!!
Damn I'm old.
Awww back when a small suv cost more than a truckonly 40 short years ago.
$9395 was expensive for that time...sheesh
Dennis Weaver-esque with a lot more pluck!
Who came here after Nicolas Sparks "Two by Two"
I fondly remember his commercials but the one time I bought a car off his lot they tried to switch the agreed upon interest rate the next day and we had excellent credit. They were very dishonest, but I suppose that’s typical for a used car lot.
44 years later, that truck $6k now costs $80k.
1984 I was 9 growing up in Pomona, CA.I always thought the "Go see Cal" part of the song was Pu$$yCow Pu$$yCow,. Like they replaced cat with cow?😮😑 Kids here different things man😂
Reading comments, It seems I wasn't the only one😂
The prices. Just wow.
No dog in the commercial meant the cocaine shipment hadn't came in yet, drug dealers in surrounding counties had to wait.
Ppl can barely pay carnotes of $250 a month today what does that say about this country.
Has anyone ever seen his dog Spot?
Notice the price of cars in 1984.
Where's the '53 Chevy with the two tone primer paint job???
The average income back then was $15,000 per year.
What’s a “pussy cow?”
If you want to get ripped off go see Cal!!
New cars? Those cars look old has hell 😅😅
They're used cars..
April 11, 2024
