I just want to say THANK YOU so much. Because of your previous tutorial and this updated tutorial on this mask I have made 50+ great fitting masks for all my family and friends, some of which are relief workers. Everyone loves their mask and I just want to say again how grateful I am to you and your amazing mask design =) Keep up the great work!

I just found you on UA-cam. I’ve been looking for mask patterns and tutorials on here for months. I’ve viewed so many mask making videos. Your tutorial is, hands down, the best. I like that you have been layering since July and you offer the nose wire option as well. Thank you for sharing your skills.

Thank you for this tutorial. I really like the masks I’ve made using your pattern but I had to tweak it the under chin a little bit. I added a dart on each side to cup the chin better. This made the mask really fitted all around the face and chin. Thank you.

I didn't check the size my pattern printed out - so now my daughter got the mask I was making for me and she is very happy! Very easy to follow and clear instructions so even my beginner sewing skills were OK. Next one I check the printer properly! Thank you.

Thank you!! Last Spring, I chose your video from among all the ones I saw, and made I don't know how many masks for family and friends. Feedback from multiple folks was "best mask I have!" Now, I need to make a few more-- and lo and behold, you've posted an update with tips for speeding up the sew! Thx!!!

Thank you Daisy, for sharing your experience and patterns. I've recently adopted your pattern but made a change to the elastic.
Using the Farmyarn i cut one long length... about 12 inches - it stretches a lot. Thread each end up the pocket from the bottom. This makes a loop that will rest on your lower neck. The two lose ends can be stretched and tied off behind your head and just below your ears. This provides a close fit that gathers well along your cheeks and the knot sits below the hairline so it is very comfortable and effective. If you find a comfortable length you can just tie a simple knot and it will always be easy to slip on and off.

I used your previous pattern so i can understand how this version would be a bit more comfortable seeing that its one layer on the sides but i believe a surger gives it a better finish than zigzag and i dont have that lol
I tweaked the other pattern to my own liking but the general idea came from you and your print outs was also used so i really appreciate the time and work you put into these videos💖🙏🏾 Thank You very much! Keep safe and keep up the great work

A really great tutorial!! I mentioned this in another video but will copy and paste here just incase to hopefully benefit. I did a little research and found that "if NWPP interfacing is used, “sew in” interfacing is preferred to “fusible” (iron on) because: 1) the plastics beads used in iron-on interfacing may reduce the breathability of the material and 2) the types of adhesives and binders used in the “dots” in fusible interfacing may are not have been evaluated for potential inhalation risks associated with use in masks." (cited from makermask website) Hope this helps :)

Hi Daisy. Thanks for the great video. Just a couple of notes: the medium size template doesn't have the middle fold line and that inner layer (white in your video) really needs to have the edges finished otherwise they fray quite quickly. Thanks again.

Ok! Firstly, this is a fantastic design, I feel even a novice seamstress like myself can make a mask that looks professionally crafted. I really like that it has 3 cloth layers, plus the fusible interfacing which could also be considered an additional layer. I highly suggest everyone serge or overlock/zigzag their edges (I used my overlock foot because I don’t have a serger). Once I cut my cloth pieces some of the edges started unraveling. My only complaint: for my pocket layer, it wasn’t clear to me that we needed to put the wrong sides together (right side facing out, opposite of the front layer) so my final product has the pocket with the wrong side of the fabric facing out. It’s the pocket so no one will really see, but I’d rather it wasn’t that way, lol. Overall, easy tutorial, this now my go to mask making pattern. Thank you!

  • @me-xx2gl

I made a small change that seems to work. The complaints I got were that the lining kind of got in the mouth. I curved it slightly bigger in front. Then did a 1/2 seam in the lining and pressed it to the side to make a modified French seam. Then I inserted a zip tie and trimmed it to fit. Of course, you need the same 1/2 seam for the front without the French seam. Just trim it. I would not do that to the child size. For the child size, kids don't like elastic so much, so I sewed a fabric loop +(1/4" like Seam tape) and then tacked a tie through the loop. The tie is best at about 1/4". Really cute.

Hi Daisy. Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge. I've made many masks using your earlier pattern and everyone who has been wearing them has commented on the comfort and good fit of the mask. God bless you for your kindness. I like the doubling of the poly-cotton for your inner layer this time and it is an easier method to cut too. I'm also not an experienced seamstress but it has been so easy to print the pattern and follow your instructions in your videos. Stay safe and stay blessed.

This is the first time I've sewn anything in about 20 years. I expected to make mistakes with my first attempt but it has come out very nicely. The steps you showed are very clear.
What differences would you make to have the elastic go behind the head instead of the ears?

    • @wayne00k
      @wayne00k 4 роки тому +3

      Hi Brian
I use Daisy's pattern and a longer strand of farmyarn (I also use paracord with a dual stopper with spring). Depending on the length and tension, both can be adjusted to loop behind the neck or the bottom loop low on rhe neck and upper loop above the ears. The shape of someone's head, their preferences, how long they need to wear it all make a difference. But thest two, with Daisy's option of small loops behind the ears provide choices for many.
See my comment earlier for a better description

As extra filter you can use some MERV 13-14 supple polypropylene material (supple not pleated) from a "pocket" designed filter used in ventilation, more or less the same material than used for respirators, the supple models. you cut the shape needed and insert it; of course, the mask must be tight fit everywhere on your face. This type of filter is rated 90% at 0.4 micron, which is not so bad against airborne virus. You can use on or two layers, beware of the right side to the face. Found this in Europe, made in UK. You must have the same range of products in other areas.

Do you have a zippered wash bag to place delicates in for laundering? You can use it for the mask as well because you will have to wash the pipe cleaner eventually too. You can also wash the mask by hand with a (dish) detergent that says "extra hygiene" or something to that extent. It's not necessary to wash it at extremely high temperatures as the virus cannot live very long on textiles. It supposedly survives longer on our hands but I can 't see us washing our hands with boiling hot water.

Use gardening twist ties instead they work better and it’s no problem in the laundry. They can take a lot of bending and aren’t too stiff. The paper mask actual use twist ties. The gardening one I like because they have a plastic coating, so better for washing.
