  • We are now getting into the later stages of the build. Through my camera cutting out and stuff, we tackle a few decals and take a look into what I did for my weathering all done in powdered pastel. All that's left is making an add-on for the cargo for the little car that I want to add to the cargo bay.
Kit: Italeri 1/48 Scale C-130J Hercules II
    Main Color: Rustoleum Smoke Grey
    Build Time: About 1 Month

I am thinking about doing this model and then putting a 1:48 tank in the cargo place, will this work?

I don't see why not. Plenty of space in the cargo bay.

Not really. Bear in mind that the C-130 Herky Bird's maximum payload capacity is around 45,000 lbs., maximum. These aircraft aren't capable of transporting heavy armored vehicles, (such as MBT's).

I flew C-130E/H models in the 1980s and 1990s. We could carry a Deuce-n-half truck in the back and they did carry Sheridan tanks in the back. The Sheridan was a lighter weight tank that was designed to be fit in the cargo hold that is approximately 40'x10x9. We weighed about 70,000 to 72,000 empty and max gross was about 165,000 to 175,000. How much weight we carried was limited by how much fuel we took on board.
Over the Atlantic or Pacific on long hauls, I always took on max fuel of 60,000 to 62,000 lbs of fuel.
Every airplane I flew had a dry unfueled weight between 70,000 and 72,000 lbs. So if I took on 30,000 lbs of fuel for about 6 hours of endurance, I could easily carry 50,000 Lbs of load or more. But if I took on max fuel, of 60,000 Lbs, I could carry 40,000 to 45,000 lbs of payload. In a 'No shit' real war time situation and I had a decent 8,000 ft runway, we could get out of Dodge with more than the published max loads.
It is always the tradeoff between fuel load and payload. Most times we were flying lightly loaded with plenty of fuel on board. Rarely did we come close to max gross.

do you really know what came out from your mouth? @@charlestaylor253 do some research before you speak about maximum capacity. People here are laughing the hell out after read your comment.

Grande kit... tinha tudo pra ficar mais aprimorado, inclusive essa montagem... ficou muito pobre em detalhes !!!

walter vangorden What vocabulary are you referring to? I keep these pretty clean when I edit them.

walter vangorden I do see where you are coming from. Where I live, whenever we run into those pokey plants with the thorns, we call those prickers and they often hurt. That's where prick comes from.
