    Hi Steve, I am a 75+ rider and I am amazed at how many miles you ride in a day. I am enjoying your videos. I presently only ride 3 day a week and avg.20 miles on most of my outings which are all in suburban Phoenix area. How do you manage all those miles with out having your butt hurt. How do you manage..? Is it a special saddle ? Sure would like to know . Thx Jim from phoenix

      Hi Jim, 20 miles 3 times a week is a good routine. I wear padded shorts and use the most comfortable seat ever. Made by Infinity Bike. Also way too expensive. But worth the money for long distance riders. Thanks and take care, Steve

    I loved this video, especially how you greet people you pass but more importantly how you announce that you are “coming up on your left” to those who don’t see you. OMG I have been scared so many times by cyclist flying by me without warning. So Thank You Steve!!😊😊

      Hi again and thanks for the nice comment. I also have a bell, but I've found it too loud. I only use it when approaching from a distance so as not to alarm the walkers/runners. Thanks again and have a wonderful day, Steve

    Thanks again for such an inspirational and motivating video. Old railways that are no longer in service are such a wonderful opportunity for bike trails. I live north of Montreal, Canada and you have already mentioned a similar trail that we have that goes through the Laurentians all the way to Mont-Laurier. It is commonly referred to "La trail du P’tit Train du Nord" bike trail which is part of a larger trail called "La Route Verte"... You were planning to go or you already went, hope your enjoyed your visit !!! Keep it up. Your videos are truly inspiring !!! THANK YOU SO MUCH !!! 🙂

      Hi Daniel and thanks for the nice comment! Yes, Jan and I cycled the P'tit Train du Nord a few months ago. We had a wonderful time. Videos will come in the next few months. You live in a beautiful part of the country. Thanks again and have a great weekend, Steve

    Hello Steve, I’ve only just discovered your videos and I’m enjoying them very much. You sure have some beautiful off-road trails over there in the USA. We do have off-road trails here in the UK, but nothing like your’s over there. I’m 69 and have been a cyclist most of my life, problem is the amount of traffic on the roads, and I live in rural Lincolnshire. I’ve been trying to ride off-road recently, too many speeding, inconsiderate drivers here.

    • @steveretiredandcycling
      @steveretiredandcycling  11 місяців тому

      Hello Mr James and thank you for watching and the comment. Traffic is an international problem isn't it. We are fortunate to have many "Greenways" in the USA. However, cycling in traffic is unavoidable in many areas. I live in an area that calls for me to drive my van to suitable areas for cycling. Your idea of riding off-road is an excellent way of staying safe yet still enjoying the experience. Thanks again and all the best, Steve

    Hi Steve, I recently found your channel. I’m impressed with your bike trips and positive attitude. I’m an active mid sixties retiree and after watching some of your videos I feel like a slacker. It was helpful when you told us how you prepare for long trips by riding your stationary bike daily for up to an hour. Your trip to Manhattan is really looks like a lot of fun. Thanks for the motivational and enjoyable videos.

    10:56 in I see a frost heave. Near there 4 years ago I went for my water bottle so 1 hand driving, hit a heave and over the bars at 13mph. Lucky I was only 2 miles from the car and not hurt to bad. 30 mile drive home. It does make me nervous about cycling way far from home. I pay more attention now and shifters on brake levers keep my 2 hands on the bars now.

    • @steveretiredandcycling
      @steveretiredandcycling  Рік тому +1

      Hi Peter, the train ride was uneventful. It wasn't Amtrak so things went smoothly. I was able to walk the bike on and put down the kickstand. It was located next to my seat near the train car exit. Amtrak is not so easy as they make you remove your front wheel and hang the bike on a hook. Thanks for asking, Steve

    I love that trail! I lived in Okinawa, and they had open sewers. That was a special smell. 😊 I like to ride my bike downtown, and it's always a little nerve-wracking to leave it. I do use two locks, but still. One's a heavy chain, one's a heavy U...
