Hey Gab! Thanks so much for checking this out! I managed to catch a bit of the end of your stream when you played this. :) Really means a lot! Glad you enjoyed!
Oh my gosh, his last name is O'Brien. Tim O'Brien wrote one of the most harrowing accounts of the Vietnam war, which is the allegorical war used in this game. Gordon processing his guilt and grief through surviving another type of war is just amazing game storytelling.
I immediately was like, it's talking about the Vietnam War and how awful its effects were. Thank you for the info on O'Brien, that's an awesome part of the game
I think he's processing his trauma and grief more so through helping the puppets than through the survival itself. That "Sometimes we all get a little surprised when we look in the mirror," sounded very much like it's first person feelings.
"The Things They Carried" is such a heavy novel. I read it in my AP Literature class and it really stuck with me. The hopelessness of being forced into violence that benefits no one. Soldiers never being recognized for the horrors they went through. I didn't even connect the last name thing
Each of the main puppets he helps also help him in return. Pearl had a hard time looking at herself in the mirror, did not recognize herself. The dogs were not so bad after all. Gobblette was depressed. Ray had anger issues. When the game started it was said that Gordon was not nice with customers and had been to war (Purple Heart.) He helped them and himself.
I would like to think that the puppets just exist in this world, much like they do in Muppets or Seasame Street. I watched a MatPat video about this game only after I finished your playthrough. It dealt with some rather touching subject about stuff we learned as kids and how adults become jaded as time passes them by and they witness some rather upsetting stuff both on the news and in person. And learn to see a good neighbor when they happen upon us. To value that goodness and not to take advantage of it. That was Gorgon's apprehension about letting the show air, teaching kids to be good rather than be selfish. What a lovely game. And a delightful playthrough. Bravo.
Ywahhh, it’s why I watch her and she’s probably the only female gamer I watch! I think too many girls think they have to put on a show, which makes it seem superficial. I can actually enjoy the game AND the gamer with Gab ❤

I absolutely love how WELL they interlaced the heavy topic of how war affects us as a society into this story about puppets that are alive. It's something that could have easily become a hit you over the head/no subtlety type plot point but it never feels that way. It really flows well into the story without feeling preachy. And I love that they managed to have such a well built story in general. They managed to take a story about a war veteran with job problems and puppets (which from what I've gathered, just...are alive? Like not possessed or experimented on to create or anything just alive? I suppose it's meant to be implied that that's just normal in this world?) Who have very rightly gone insane from being shot at with the weapons we acquire (were told the humans would use them on the puppets for skits and control) and being left alone there to rot, and coming to terms with trauma, and HOLD IT TOGETHER. It could've EASILY gotten confusing or could've been easy to not make sure the plot was fleshed out enough to ensure people could follow the story. It's a great game
Can confirm that cats remember you, even after a few years. My cousin was gonna move into my apartment in college, but she dropped her cat Pickles off first, so it was just me and him (and my two other cats lol) for a few months. Pickles and I became real good buddies during that time. He definitely recognized my cousin when she moved in, though he wasn’t as affectionate with her at the start. She said he was mad at her haha, maybe so. Anyway, she ended up moving during the pandemic and I didn’t see him for, like, a year and a half, maybe more. I went to see her at her new apartment and was afraid he wouldn’t remember me, but he totally did! He let me pick him up right away, something he used to hate unless I did it, and the next day he hung out with me in bed like he used to. Cats have higher emotional intelligence (and actual intelligence) than people give them credit for.
I used to live with a my flatmate for a year - she would travel for work, so often left her kitty and me alone for days at a time. I wasn't used to cats, having grown up with a dog, but we warmed up to each other that he would also chill in bed with me, or just hang out when I worked at my desk. I moved out, and didn't see him for several months - I didn't think he'd remember me!! Now when I come round, he loafs on my lap, head butts my chest and face. He's so sweet, lil' purring machine. I want a cat now :'D
Precious Pearl! So glad to have both streams compiled together, watched them live but missed some sections due to internet. I love the energy you bring to every game you play!
Oh Gab… thanks for the cat info. I just went to see my brother, and he has my mothers cats from about 5-6 years ago. She was neglecting them so he rescued them. One was super loving and for sure recognized me. At first, the other didn’t seem to remember me, but then after I left and came back they explained she was super sad and angry when I was gone. She then cuddled with me and sat with me. Now I know that the days I would visit them and take care of them meant a lot. Makes me wanna cry.
When this game came out I didn't think much of it, it was a goofy horror parody like Sonic.exe. But dude, the story really makes one think. What a good game and message! I was actually brought to tears.
This lady on the tv with her voice and her manic hand gestures make me think of Clue. The part where Mrs. White says "Flames, flames, on the side of my face, breathing, heaving breaths"
I was here half of the time. I'm so glad I watched your run because you laughed a lot and enjoyed the silly puppet talking and the paintings too. It's eye-opening how I found this game to be more enjoyable once you're watching someone who has positive mind about it (some find them either annoying or indifferent). I found your play so much more fun and entertaining!
The characters, story and writing of this game is stellar! The mechanics are fun with lots of thought put into the environmental design and set pieces (favorite areas are tthe Main Stage, Pirate movie set and the Cardboard Penthouse; this coming from someone who was obsessed with Elmo's World when she was younger). Of all the puppets, Pearl, Ricky, Lenard and the Pups are me my favorite. 15:0215:06 Hands down one of my favorite indies of 2023 thus far..
This game was so unexpectedly wholesome! I think that I appreciate PBS shows like Mr Rogers and Sesame Street more as an adult than I did as a kid. They really are trying to impart good lessons to kids. Gotta say, the voice acting in this was top notch! My fave voices were the little sock puppets that sound like Elmo. Annoying af but still cute!
Omg I just got it!! We all thought it was like Resident Evil but with puppets and even the name of the game basically tells us that but the opposite! If you live a on a Neighbourhood you're a resident, and instead of evil, you're friendly! 🤯
I was far too focused on chat when you played live to focus on what the puppets were saying. Listening to all the wild things they’re saying now is such a fun trip 😊 Really enjoyed this game and glad you played it!
This was such a delight to watch! I was especially impressed with the environmental design, all of it looked so cool! I really loved that this was a horror game that has a very silly concept, but they took it very seriously and made a great game out of it! The devs did a great job!!! I also love that you explored everything and grabbed every item, that was so satisfying!
1:21:32 my cat is also 18 this year! Next month!!! She’s an old lady, grew up with her so she’s like my sister. Plus we learned a few years ago that sibling cats like to annoy each other to show love and that’s literally my relationship with Cali, it’s great 💕 she’s a good kitty
I've watched 3 or 4 other people play this.....and so far Gab's first combat encounter with her panicking was done far better then anyone else I've seen and they didn't panic lol
1:18:49 had this happen to me! Bought a cat with a roommate I had 5 years ago; she still remembers me, she gets these vocal outbursts and remembers how I used to pat her butt to give her affection 😂.
I have the same problem with my cats ! I gave them a couple bits of snacks / chips one time and now every time a bag of anything opens they are there watching and waiting patiently 😂
The guns being like type writers, and firing letters, is cool, but does that mean the show is like-- "Lets sing the alphabet kids! ABCD- Raatatatatatatatatatatatatatata"
Heck yeah! Managed to catch part of both streams, watched both VODs, and now I'm here again XD. You're my favorite streamer/content creator of all time! Thanks for being so awesome!!
The comment about your cat always remembering if you were mean to them is real! My aunt chased my kitten through the house and cornered him because she was an arsehole. Everytime she would come over he would attack her as much as he could, walking through a room? He'd come out from under the table and attack her! It was bedtime and i was talking to her and the cat grabbed me by my nightgown and dragged me out of the room. He hated her so much!

I found you yt a couple of weeks ago and I have to say, youre honestly one of my comfort youtubers, everytime i have a hard day or are just feeling down i'll go and watch your vids, Thank you!
Omg the 🙀 "PEPPERONI PIZZAAA" made my day! So wholesome just like that whole pizza pie! I myself am blasphemous and love my pizza sweet and savoury: topped with pepperoni, pineapple, and hot honey 🍍🍯
That sounds fantastic! Is the honey spicy or hot in terms of temperature? I like barbecue chicken and pineapple pizzas, ideally with an extra crumble of a salty cheese like feta
I was today years old when I learned that, for some reason, Mozart's Requiem still technically comes under copyright law in the US only - despite being written in 1791/2?! That aside, what an amazingly fun game this was!!
Sometimes our brains just forget trauma because it’s easier than dealing with it. I was in a dirtbike accident that paralyzed me and caused a stroke and my brain completely blocked out the accident
So much fun watching the UA-cam test streams along with BB chill intermissions. So natural your communication. This game was less scarier than in demo, but still it got me a few scared along yours hahaha. Thanks Gab💚💚💚🤍💀🌟
Gab, thank you so much for playing this!, I'd only seen the demo of it when Sean played some of it and that was quite awhile ago, and I really liked the little bit the demo showed, so seeing you play a bit over 4hrs of it made me happy! As always keep up the awesome work with your vids and take care. 😁
Honestly, I really enjoyed watching the two VOs, it's a great game, very resident evil yes, but with puppets which makes it worse (more terrifying) Amazing game, great experience
It’s funny all of the posters Alude to famous muppets shows and movies, The shadow sapphire, is the dark crystal, the mystic maze, is Labyrinth, and more, muppet Christmas carol, treasure island, great muppet caper, etc.
I was going to attend my application for harvard university, but then I saw this, so I INSTANTLY CANCELLED ALL MY HARVARD DREAMS *and watched a 4 hour GAB VIDEO INSTEAD, seems like a fair trade off lol, because I get to see The Gab Smolders, the only one of its species, thriving in its natural habitat, coffee, and coffee galore, and also loves playing games... Fun Fact *if we leave this beast with just any old coffee it will tear down its enclosure and probably doom the entire planet, but as long as we have our limited supply of Top of the Morning Coffee, I believe the world wont have to succumb to the likes of this entity, for now though, he is safe, and tumultuous, in its local habitat lmao XD* 💀💀💀
1:18:09 I have come to know that when I was in middle school, I had found a kitten in our balcony when I was 8 or 9 years old and took him in after his mom abandoned him (not sure if it's bc he was sick and couldn't see or if something happened to the mom) so we had let him in and out of our home for several months and then we had to let him go back to the street and stopped him from getting inside bc he was a stray and my parents were worried he'd bring us illnesses they refused to adopt him. He kept meowing at our doors and windows for a while then gave up and disappeared. 5 to 6 years later I was going for a walk in front of our home and saw a cat with an injury (stray cats hated humans and were always terrified where we lived back then bc kids always abused them poor kitties) but this guy (now a big cat I didn't recognize) wasn't scared of me and let me get close to him, he didn't trust me to touch him immediately but warmed up to me rather quickly as I kept talking to him and sat in front of him and finally I carried him home just to treat his wound. I was extremely surprised he trusted me so fast to touch what hurts him and all that like he knew what I had meant to do! Then it occurred to me that he was the same color and pattern and eye color as the kitten I had years ago! It shocked me that he was still able to recognize me when I grew to a 14 year old as well and was wearing hijab then too! So it makes sense that it wasn't my appearance but either scent or voice if not both that made him recognize me! Cats are truly fascinating ❤ I really miss him, we called him Ramla.
The game is pretty good but I wish the puppets were more interactive with the world and were doing funny stuff like the Muppets do. So much missed opportunity. It would have been great to have a pizza chef puppet in the pizza restaurant making pizzas with ridiculous stuff on it, then it chases after you with a pizza cutter. It needed less generic puppets and more specialized ones that make the world feel like a real studio set. You can say the copies are spare puppets but the game would have a bit more flavor if it had more unique interactions. Since I know the development team is small though, I guess it would have been a bit too ambitious for more.
Pepperoni is fantastic! Cool thing is, nearly all the flavor comes from the spices and the fat content. As such Vegi Pepperoni can be just as good. I highly recommend it.
Just so you know, you didn't have to replace the music at the part where you help Gobblette. The song that actually plays in that part is Lacrimosa, a Mozart composition. Classical music is public domain.
On cat memory.... We got a cat when I was a teen... I grew up, joined the Army, got married, lived in another country... It was about 6 years before I made it back to my parents home, and to the cat. Now, this cat was extremely skittish, it would hide from everyone, except family. So after 6 years away, I finally made it back home, and our cat immediately started rubbing against me and wanted attention... he very obviously both remembered me, and missed me.
back for round 3 of MFN, this time vod edition!!! it was fun seeing you play this, esp knowing your love for the RE games that they seemed to take such inspiration from. it really does feel like RE junior in a lot of ways, which could def be fun for people looking for a lower stakes shoot 'em and loot 'em lmao. i do wonder how much more difficult the other mode of this game is?

Omg the 🙀 "PEPPERONI PIZZAAA" made my day! So wholesome just like that whole pizza pie! I myself am blasphemous and love my pizza sweet and savoury: topped with pepperoni, pineapple, and hot honey 🍍🍯
No blaspheme here, that sounds like a damn good pizza to me
That sounds fantastic! Is the honey spicy or hot in terms of temperature?
I like barbecue chicken and pineapple pizzas, ideally with an extra crumble of a salty cheese like feta
@@vanguardiris3232 ideally both hot in terms of temperature and spice! Feta on pizza sounds amazing!! I'll need to try that next time
yess ive been waiting for this since the stream!!
Gab not clearing corners scares me the most XD
1:46:07 noooo you missed the best painting!
1:52:10 YEEEEEESSSSSS
If Sean gives you trouble for how you pronounce perfect, you can always use the way he says words with H in them
I was today years old when I learned that, for some reason, Mozart's Requiem still technically comes under copyright law in the US only - despite being written in 1791/2?!
That aside, what an amazingly fun game this was!!
The actual song doesn’t but the performance of it does. Eg if the Philharmonic Orchestra plays it their performance can be copyrighted.
12:20 kills me everytime 💀
What a nice ending, loved this game
Sometimes our brains just forget trauma because it’s easier than dealing with it. I was in a dirtbike accident that paralyzed me and caused a stroke and my brain completely blocked out the accident
So much fun watching the UA-cam test streams along with BB chill intermissions. So natural your communication. This game was less scarier than in demo, but still it got me a few scared along yours hahaha. Thanks Gab💚💚💚🤍💀🌟
It's a good morning when you wake up to oatmeal and Gab
I would very much like to know what happens in the cutscenes where Gordon shoots Rick for talking about the war, if you're 100% out of bullets.
They have got to make merch like plushies and posters, I bet a lot of people would buy it. I haven't even played and I want a mouse plushie lol😂
I am curious if the cutscene where Gordon shoots Ricky would change if you had no ammo on you.
you really should have captioned the video „resident evil but zombies are puppets” 😂
Honestly, I really enjoyed watching the two VOs, it's a great game, very resident evil yes, but with puppets which makes it worse (more terrifying)
Amazing game, great experience
Honestly dig the 'old school Resident Evil, minus the tank controls' vibes
Ummmmmm... I have never heard of this game before but I'm pretty sure I've have dreamt of it? That bird exactly. It was terrorizing a village. Weird.
everybody go home! "does goblette remember the war" is unintentionally the funniest thing i have ever heard!
The interrobang was an actual punctuation symbol it was a cross between an exclamation and a question mark
That's a pretty nice real story.
Gab is becoming one of my favorite UA-camrs
Every time you accidentally fire that gun, i die laughing. My brain does the same thing. Too many control schemes vying for dominance over my hands.
Yay!! So excited to watch your play through of this. Perfect start to my weekend.
23 skidoo! What a reference 😂
BB’s meowing confuses my cats so much.
16:15 did i hear a bit of Jack ? :D
🎵AM I A MAAAAAAANNNNN
OR AM I A MUPPET!?🎵
Just so you know, you didn't have to replace the music at the part where you help Gobblette. The song that actually plays in that part is Lacrimosa, a Mozart composition. Classical music is public domain.
Sesame Street not missing these Muppet rejects 😅
Hilarious playthrough!
Loving it 😍
On cat memory....
Happily spending my first day off on vacay to enjoy this ❤😊
Oh man paid saves. Omikron The Nomad Soul flashbacks
