You don't need to be an expert to notice the music at the start is far louder than the guys talking, uncomfortably so, it detracts from the video and is a needless addition.

Almost ruined by the bad audio mix and slow-mo bullshit, then completely ruined by the stupid stig part. I can see why they didn't use like 90% of theses outtakes. The other 10% was brilliant.

You never see the back of the steam train and carriages because a modern diesel is it's back engine. They did it so not to put the steam engine under to much stress because it's pretty old and expensive if something brakes on it.
Daniel Asher 60163 Tornado is currently one of the newest steam locomotives in Britain, the reason she (and most other mainline steam) tows a diesel (which isn't pushing) around is, that in the case of an incident with the steam locomotive, the entire train can be removed from the mainline, minimising delays for regular traffic.

Daniel. The Tornado is not old. It was probably the first ever effort, by a fundraiser group, to build a brand new steam locomotive. It is not a restored old locomotive. All main line heritage railway trips are required to have a back-up diesel loco - to haul the train out of the section in the event of a breakdown. This method of running happened because of privatised railways. The railway operator gets fined for delays to services, which can be caused by a heritage train breakdown.

I was on this train back in 2009 and I can actually confirm that there was no diesel assistance throughout the whole trip. The loco was completed in 2008 making it the newest standard gauge steam loco in the UK (at the moment) and actually put in a very impressive performance on this run. This engine (60163) has actually achieved 100mph earlier this year (again unassisted), whilst it is expensive when things brake (as many locomotive owning groups have found out!) it is the risk people are prepared to take to experience what their engine was designed to do and in fact, the day before EVERY mainline steam run there is a thorough examination of all operating components to try to alleviate the risk of an engine failing in section.
