  • Everyone knows the benefits of regular exercise: increased longevity, better overall health, reduced risk for things like heart disease, diabetes, and so on.
Yet, despite all this overwhelming evidence of how exercise can benefit our health, many of us still have a hard time getting motivated to exercise regularly.
In this video, Kyle Ingham of The Distilled Man talks about a simple trick for increasing your motivation to exercise regularly.
This new approach was inspired by Dr. Michelle Segar's book "No Sweat: How the Simple Science of Motivation Can Bring You a Lifetime of Fitness."
Through Dr. Segar's strategies, you can completely reframe your association with exercise so that it's no longer a chore, and you actually look forward to exercising. In essence, you're able to trick yourself into loving exercise.

Great points here. I'm just glad that excersise is a part of my daily life because I love football. Its therefore not a chore to excersise. The gratification comes from the immediate enjoyment of the sport

My biggest motivation for exercising is the cognitive boost afterward.

But what if i feel bad about everything? What if, because i hate myself, i have no internal motivation? What if working out doesn’t do anything for me like “grounding” or what not? How would i go about that?
I hate who i am and of coarse i “want” to change, but i have no actual desire too, which in turn makes me hate myself more for not having said desire, etc etc.

literally my situation right now. im stuck in this pity loop of hating the way i look and shit, but i just can't find the motivation to get into shape

everything i've been told on how to actually get motivated to work out and exercise has been different answers, which makes me more conflicted. "do i need to start hampering on eating healthier, or does it not matter as long as i dont eat too much?" nobody gives a fuck about us because we're the lower percentage and don't help us.

@@subswithnovideoschalleng-rp5zk quantity and quality, both matters. You have to regulate calories intake and also make sure that the calories you are taking in do not comprise of junk food or sugar. Moving away from sugar is difficult at first but it helps tremendously. We can always have natural sugar from fruits which will bring along many important vitamins and minerals along with it.

I made it a habit like brushing your teeth. If I don't do it, I feel like I forgot to do something and it drives me crazy for the whole day.

+danny modestino Great point. We all (at least hopefully) make time to brush our teeth every day. Why can't exercise be the same way? Thanks Danny!

I get his point, but other than something like hiking to the top of a hill (and being able to write about it on Peakery), I find I don’t get much of any endorphin rush or runner’s high at all, even when I was younger and in better shape. Sometimes the fresh air of a short walk feels refreshing, but Ihave never gotten this physiological happy feeling from exercise. He talks about. I wish Idid.

I want to not feel so fatigued after work. I am 54 and most of my coworkers are half my age. Plus I want to look better.

Memberships for 8 or 12 sessions per month are a strong provoker. To me, leaving out even a single session is as reasonable as just talking about going to the gym.
Another is once you see the results in the mirror only after 3 months, you get to know how your body works and reacts to workouts. You're getting to know yourself and what exercises are good for you. Also, if someone hates lifting weights, I mean really hates it, and after an afternoon at the tennis court, realizes that soreness can be good, shift a field is a game changer.

Solid advice. I had been pretty on-again off-again when it came to exercise until I started barbell strength training. Now I look forward to going to the gym to see if I can lift more weight than I did the week before

Great video. I've been working at that mindset, tye nebulous goal is to get down to 175-180 the middle of the healthy weight range of a man my height. But the here and now for both eating healthy and exercising is that it makes me feel good; and is a form of pampering myself. It's making me look forward to doing exercises after work (I work at 6 am). And on a recent day when I had a bad migraine I was disappointed that I couldn't do a workout cause it would make it worse.
