So I am not the only one that noticed that it seems M. Night Shyamalan does better with less money than he does with a lot. Striving for better with less. I think this concept should be applied to more movies. It would kind of make people be smarter with their decisions and work on quality over quantity. Plus I feel the amount of money that goes into many movies is extreme. That money could be better put elsewhere than in entertainment. Things such as helping people or simply saving it for another movie. This is especially true if the entertainment simply be a generic, predictable movie that has a high budget simply because of the special effects and/or actors it hires.
Ive seen perfect examples of tons of movies with less budget where they go for quality over quantity. I guess here with less budget Shamalyan had to put more effort into the movie to make up for cost. Quality over quantity should be more considered in Hollywood.
M Night originally had the Kevin character in The unbreakable movie in the 1st draft but wrote him out So for you to say it was a get out jail thing is really off base . M Night has been alluding to another unbreakable movie for a while now . He wanted to make a 3 arch film , split was the 2nd arc . Unbreakable was a superhero origin and split was an origin of a villain .
+RussiantoIndia, I might, if I had not heard his original version of the way he noticed the franchise. DosSantos & DiMartino included an interview with him on an early boxset Dvd release of S1. Having seen a couple of episodes, he had no interest in it's cinematic potential or live action adaptations. That is, not until his daughter started bugging him for a Southern Water Tribe necklace and several other associated toys that Nickolodeon had turned out. And only then did he decide to take another look, eventually reaching out to the creators. Once the court case with Cameron was settled and he was finally free to begin production, the first thing he edited was his introduction to the story so that it excluded any mention of merchandise, favor a fiction of "family TV night'.
Also, you know those awkward racial designations that movie is notorious for? That happened because he [Shyamalan] allowed Nelson Peltz [one of the world's wealthiest & most powerful people] to purchase the role of Katara for his daughter Nicola. Her casting then required the subsequent restructuring of this worlds cultural makeup, previously praised for it's broad spectrum of color. Nah man, this ain't a dude you should respect.
Thats why there will never be another attempt at Avatar the Last Airbender lol. Its too risky, if you do it wrong you'll have people hating your guts for years. Its just not worth it. I didnt like the Last Airbender but there's hundreds of other movies I dont like but I dont hate the directors.
The idea of making Avatar (yes thats why I will call it) as a live-action was dumb to begin with. I can't pull all the blame on Shyamalaan when it should not have been live-action in the first place
The spill.com got canceled, but only Korey and Leon wanted to continue the show, so they made a Kickstarter and launched the "Double Toasted" website a few years ago.
Saw this last night and very much enjoyed it. I understand how people don't enjoy and are against this representation of mental illness. This is a stigma that we struggle with today. That ending twist though was really shocking and I it swept up and enjoyed it immensely
Martin has often mentioned about how he is not a fan of horror movies. If you've been following these guys for a long time, he's been saying this since the spill days. It's just not his genre. If his taste in horror films is a bit off, it's pretty understandable. Don't know about Goodwin though.
Martin has said before that comedy and horror movies are difficult to rate/critique because of the fact that what someone finds funny and what someone finds scary is so subjective. I personally agree with Martin and Goodwin in that I didn't really like the movie. I didn't find it scary at all, the "twist" honestly had me rolling my eyes, and the ending made me burst out laughing. But each to their own I guess.
99% of horror films suck ass because they rely too heavily on stupid characters and/or absurd coincidences, so if you seriously think there are more great horror-genre movies, it says more about you than Martin & Goodwin🤷🏾♀️
Martin you are wrong. Understand that she was sexually abused by her uncle in the movie, so this experience with a predator is why she did not try to flee or attack him. It's a psychological thing where she felt powerless, and thus had to try to figure out other ways to get away
Spoiler: at the end of the movie she is hinted at gaining enough courage to tell the officer she was being assaulted by her uncle. Movies are hated for spelling things out too much but damn if they dont and people miss it. The entire move subject was on abuse and how people cope. The villain at the end acknowledge the abuse. Also the girl was afraid to act cause her abuse she felt helpless and didnt want to go home at the beginning of the movie. She goes to detention to stay home longer. etc.
DT is the best reviews by "UA-camrs" bc they're just honest when talking about a movie. They aren't studio pets like what Stuckmann and Jahns have become.
I just saw this movie. I loved it. It wasn't predictable and it threw curve balls to keep the audience on the edge of their seats. I say Full Price. It was great. When her uncle was talking about playing animals and for her to take off her clothes, I knew immediately what he was doing. The only think that saved her life was he learned that she was a cutter, she had been abused by her uncle and "the Beast", he knew.
Lady in the Water was a joy. So much unironic self-agrandizing interwoven in an incomprehensible plot and poorly thought-out fable spiraling out of control
Hopefully I won't spoil the twist but I honest to God think that it's Shyamalan's GREATEST TWIST OF ALL TIME! Even if I wasn't a fan of what the twist is connected to, I would've still had the same reaction of, "OH MY GOD! HE'S ACTUALLY GONNA DO THIS!" I do agree with Martin though when he says, "I'll believe it when I see it." But even so, I still think that it's pretty cool to think that this movie is now connected with something else.
Great review! These guys gotta do improv or something together. The comedic timing and chemistry is there. Also, Corey Goodman be reaching with some of those "jokes" hehehe Some of them sound intentional but don't land sometimes.
What's it gonna take for Martin to be impressed lol, he is literally the black buzz killington. You could take him to some new theatre concept, like interactive cinema, where you can have vibrating revolving seats like one of those thrill ride simulators and red carpet and truffles, with trumpet players to welcome you as you enter. You could have a superbowl opening and a movie screen that lets you pick choices to effect the films out come and he would come out like "I'll give it a rental"
He's a grown man, kinda muscular, and they're all teenage girls. They do try to fight back, but in a careful and measured way that won't get them immediately knocked out.
Redem10 don't worry he doesn't if anything he makes James McAvoy a lot better and on top of that unbreakable is a damn good movie I don't care what Cory has to say!!!
Redem10 Yeah: he casts and directs McAvoy in an Oscar-worthy role which results in McAvoy having the ability to write his own check in Hollywood. How dare he!
I am about to see this movie tomorrow. My expectations are high rental but I would love to walk away with a lowest full price only cause apparently the side characters are good for side characters AND because Shyamalan is known for and does pretty well making the most out of the bare minimum.
I'm convinced Goodwin and Martin don't like good horror movies. First Don't Breathe, then they Lights Out and now this movie. Yet they seemed to love that trash Blair Witch. This movie was good. I didn't get the *spoilers* Bruce Willis thing at the ending cause I've never seen Unbreakable. *spoilers* And I know they didn't want to spoil anything, but I wonder if they (Martin and Goodwin) were referring to the 24th personality as one of the movie's faults where you would have to just suspend your disbelief.
Alright here's my review from a typical Teenager!!! (No Spoilers) HOLY CRAP THIS MOVIE WAS WEIRD,CRAZY,FUN,AND DIFFEREN!!! It's a little long but I liked it. i give it 8/10 AND BEST TWIST I'VE SEEN IN A LONG TIME

Back on Kanye's first album in 2003 he had a song called "through the wire." It tells the story about how he overcame a horrible car accident he was in which left him with his jaw wired shut for a while. He has a line in the last verse that says, "unbreakable, what you thought they called me Mr. Glass." So when hedwig mentions that he likes listening to Kanye West out of all people, that's a shout out from M. Night to Kanye for that reference back in the day.

lol watching this review I'm sure is so confusing for people who haven't seen it yet tlking about the "get out of jail free cards" and "there was this and that, and y'know" but having seen this I know exactly what they're talking about and I kinda agree with all of them, I'm right in the middle between rental and full price, I'd say either matinee or rental
I can't really get into M. Night Shyamalan, He's on drugs! "You know that brickly feeling you get down the back of your neck? That's them! No, it's a munchies, dude!"
I can't believe they didn't mention the tragedy that was "The Last Airbender". I mean he ruined such a good property, even though the creators laid everything out for him & gave a tremendous amount of creative input to him. No I refuse to watch any movie he's associated with.
Two full prices and two rentals? Double Toasted: Civil War.
well, those two rentals may have been redeemed now that there's a trilogy
Goodwin is actually one of Martins personalities that has evolved into a physical being
James McAvoy can play a better Joker than Jared Leto.
feyzal92 I think just about anyone could do a better job playing Joker then him.
James should play Mister Freeze.

TheForsakenEagle not really
I wonder if this same principle works with Michael Bay or Zack Snyder. Could they make a good movie with less money?
I guess you could say the cast had a 'Split' opinion.
*leaves the room*

YEAHHHHHH!
"There's no way in hell they're doing that."

BLVCK Atlantien lol
BLVCK Atlantien lol why? movies like that seem to just piss them off.

BLVCK Atlantien good point.
I think the real twist is that M. Night made a good movie.
Jose Rodriguez he's done it before several times
...or has he?
The twist is that M. Night has become a superhero.
The six sense, unbreakable, the sign, the village those are good to great films by M.Night
village was good only to a certain point
"Schizophrenia!.....My favorite genre!" 😂😂😂😂😂😂😅😅
ever since The Last Airbender I've seriously hated M Night Shamalanianan

Korey G. and Martin wouldn't know a good horror movie if it bit them in the balls. This is like the "Don't Breathe" review all over again.

Taylor Nickels exactly. Weren't they the ones that loved that trash Blair Witch?

"In Hollywood? "
I love that retort at 1:10 and Korey's response.

Thanks for the review guys. I haven't laughed that hard in a long time. Y'all ain't got no sense.

Don't ruin James McAvoy for me M. Night Shyamalan !

Redem10 tbh the movie was really good. and it only made me gain more respect for James mcavoy. he was awesome in the movie

I love signs
how do you guys rate this movie? im going to watch this on cinema later
Shamaylan is doing what marvel can't yet seem to perfect
I'm convinced Goodwin and Martin don't like good horror movies. First Don't Breathe, then they Lights Out and now this movie. Yet they seemed to love that trash Blair Witch. This movie was good. I didn't get the *spoilers* Bruce Willis thing at the ending cause I've never seen Unbreakable. *spoilers*
And I know they didn't want to spoil anything, but I wonder if they (Martin and Goodwin) were referring to the 24th personality as one of the movie's faults where you would have to just suspend your disbelief.
This is so wrong but my favorite joke is I'm a schizophrenic and so am I
I wonder what it takes to impress Martin. He's never enthusiastic about any film, sometimes I wonder if he really like movies.

- inability to open doors is similar to a religious story of some unknown people living beneath us unable to break free because some prophet built a wall around them.
- their reaction to water since they live deep down where fire(the opposite of water) is the major element.
In short. Look at Signs as a religious story not a Sci-Fi one and not only would it make more sense but also become a much better film overall.

So when hedwig mentions that he likes listening to Kanye West out of all people, that's a shout out from M. Night to Kanye for that reference back in the day.
UNBREAKABLE IS MY FAVOURITE SHYMALAN MOVIE
I don't understand why people didn't like After Earth, I liked that film a lot actually
After Earth was great, people are just going to hate
BeingHonest no...no it wasn't. that movie was fucking awful.
This movie was awesome most these reviewers are clueless...most
Ayyy been waitin for this
lol watching this review I'm sure is so confusing for people who haven't seen it yet tlking about the "get out of jail free cards" and "there was this and that, and y'know"
but having seen this I know exactly what they're talking about and I kinda agree with all of them, I'm right in the middle between rental and full price, I'd say either matinee or rental
I can't really get into M. Night Shyamalan, He's on drugs! "You know that brickly feeling you get down the back of your neck? That's them! No, it's a munchies, dude!"
You guys are a blast!!!
I can't believe they didn't mention the tragedy that was "The Last Airbender". I mean he ruined such a good property, even though the creators laid everything out for him & gave a tremendous amount of creative input to him. No I refuse to watch any movie he's associated with.
Leo supposed to make a movie like this to and I'm ready for that
