Wow, less than a year's growth..that plant loved your soil. Very impressive. I've tried taking softwood and hardwood cuttings but my results have been about 50% success so I think I'll try this technique. Thanks for this tutorial.
I found this out last summer when i dug up my 2 plants because I didn’t like their location. In the process of digging them up, i left a bunch of root but i figured those root would die off. I planted other plants in the holes and to my suprise, i now have Stokes Aster growing in the same spots i removed them.
Great video. It’s hard to find info on root cuttings bc the search engines always take us to ‘rooting cuttings’. I have been propagating trees this way for a few years. Seems flawless for maples, elms, zelkova, fruit, etc. this year I adding redwood trees, wisteria, and a few others, What I would like to know is if bottom heat supports root cuttings and how important is light. This year I’m putting a lot of cuttings on heating mats. I no experience with conifers which tend to be difficult to grow from cuttings. I agree that this gives a big advantage time wise. If you get access to large root segments they have enough stored energy to grow rapidly the first year. An underutilized method for sure Thank you
Thank you lovely lady for your patient explanation, great video I have a shrub that I want to propagate and would like to use this method, but the only thing is that the roots are already cut about maybe 7 or 9 days ago and were given to me .. still wet.. do you think it will still work, now it is summer where I live do you think I can plant them now?
Why only in the winter? I tried it this spring with Verbascum and I got four plants. It was fast for the first one.I had ordered a plant and it came in bad shape with broken roots so I didn't want to waste them. The plant was tiny so I used whole roots and laid them horizontally.
nice to hear, I am in the summer now , can i do that, the only problem is that I was given roots that were cut 9 day ago still wet in plastic .. shall I try it? because they are tooth brush tree, i can use the root and not waste them for my teeth..
OMG you have hit my propagation hot spot. I'm being lazy - sorry. Can you give a list of plants similar to Stokes that have those thick roots that I can do now. I'm in Zone 8 Virginia?
Here in Zone 6A, I would take phlox root cuttings in November or early December at latest. That leaves me 4 to 5 months before I can plant them out. Please tell me the how soon before new plants emerge from root cuttings, and how to care for them while I wait for Spring to arrive? Thanks!
I need your name to reference a report I'm writing, I checked the beginning of the video to see if you were introduced with an onscreen title, am I right in thinking that says.... Marty Detfart?
it is possible , I wish I can give you, they grow spontaneous in my garden from seeds which is eaten by birds, every week I pull 30 or 40 and still come a lot.. from seed, the problem with seed you do not know what kind of palm will grow, good or not... get a baby from her mother.. many have 10 or more babies along the mother.. I have many I cut cause I do not need them.. so either by seed, slow.. or by baby the best, but try root.. it will come a clon of the mother I guess never tried it though..
