The pilings are left over from an era when there was commercial fishing in Astoria and canneries were built over the water, as well as piers. The buildings are long gone, but it is not worth the trouble to remove the pilings. Cormorants and other birds can perch on them. There are even pilings remaining from the ferry landing. The ferries left when the bridge was built in the early 1960s. The boat at 3:54 is a Coast Guard lifeboat, once used for rescues. The ships wait their turn to move upriver. There isn’t room to park ships upriver except at their assigned dock. “Sea lions,” properly. I enjoyed that walk, bcause I no longer have the stamina to walk so far. The Silver Salmon Grille is the best place to eat.
At 25:30, I think the grey house up the hill was the Goonies house. Another great video. Been here once and going again next year, so this was a nice different look. Oh, and the rock....ppl write inspirational messages and place rock for others to find and keep or hide again. We do this in Chilliwack, BC. This one if from Anchorage and my guess is a cruise passenger brought it and replaced here.

Come on guys, you were guests in that small city, treat it as your own. Someone had carefully cast wildflower seeds along the road to beautify the area, and you carelessly tromped through them crushing them. Next time go around so others can enjoy them too. I changed my up vote to a down vote because of that, and ignoring the danger signs which could encourage someone else to do the same, and be injured. Not a good example.
