Another edition of making the beats live & direct from my lab. Wanted to break down a beat I did for Pharoahe Monch. Off his P.T.S.D. album. Joint is called "The Jungle". I've also included these drums and bass sounds in my new drum kit "Pad Thai" Vol. 1.

One of the greatest Hip Hop producers of all time. Amazing creativity with minimalistic setup!
"Marco, that's my man" that's where that line came from 💪🏾💪🏾
Marco's musicality is the best by far for this type of "boom bap" kind of productions. Flawless

I'll always remember the best hip hop show I saw in Australia in 2010, it was you, dj premier, Edo g, Masta ace, and the beatnuts, fucking amazing show, please come back to Australia, there are so many hip hop heads out here that get barely any decent shows lol!
So much knowledge dropped in just 6 min,... Beat makers and producers take notes!

It's hard to choose but this is probably my favorite song on the album...somehow I slept on the whole project until a few weeks ago but it was a nice surprise. Awesome video thanks Mr. Marco Polo.

Marco Polo I love your style
absolutely great, tight and strong beat ... and track!
great production tips as well...little things that might be well known but are often forgotten .. sometimes it's even best to not quantize anything at all.
nice to see your setup and workflow.

Always inspiring! Propz and thank you from germany.

Deadly video and nice track, just searching libraries to work on some breaks.
My favorite track off of Monch's album

Yoooo The Jungle is SICK when i heard it i had to stop what i was doin and turn up my stereo aka bluetooth speaker to the red and just zone out
Grande Marco sei il capo!!
Awesome beat making bro, please make more vids.
OMG I just bought my MPC 2000xl yesterday..... yay!
awsome bro. keep it up man.
MARCO!!!!!!!!
Detroit Emeralds drum break......?
DOPE!!!
Love it
Niceeee
Beats are just my hobby but I have a very similar work flow but instead of Kontakt I switch to Uvi libraries and MPC Live /2.0 software with drag and drop to audio makes work flow much quicker to make your own loops to chop if your already a Mpc user. I like your music and work flow it keeps production fun !!!
That break is ridiculous, would make any track bang. Really like the compression on it, kick sounds FAT. Anybody figure out which track he sampled?
Siiiiiick
One question if you have the time, do you bypass the reverb when sampling into the mpc? Seems like sampling a sound with reverb would hinder the post production mix.
Peace Polo, love your production man! I been emceeing for mad years. And started to produce in 2000. You ever do anything with that beat you made on Rhythm Roulette!? Would love to kill that with our mutual homie Juxx! I been building on tracks with him over the last few years. Peace
Fucking sick!
When you pauze after 1,5 min because you're inspired to make a beat
Dude I just realized why you look familiar. Omg. You look like the Engineer from Prometheus
u right about following thru with the cheesy sounds was my main problem making beats THX 2 times
That Iced Tea tho! lol Did you upgrade to a different MPC Marco?
I think he did, I miss his battle scarred one
It probably broke man it happens. But yea it just looked cleaner I was like hol up! lol
How is he getting the VST into the MPC? Sorry for the lame questions...I am new to the MPC
He's recording into the MPC. Basically sampling it
4:50 Raekwon "Incarcerated Scarfaces" drumbreak or am I tripping?
How are you sending those sounds from Komplete/Kontackt to record into the MP @MARCO ????
my guess is some sort of audio interface
It looks like he's just doing the headphone jack out of his laptop into the 'record in' 1/4'' on the MP
GoodxJ - This was my second guess since that's what I've been doing as well. I was too lazy to take another look at the video.
is that going to affect the quality of the original sound doing it that way though ? or does it not matter cuz you can have the engineer beef it up in mixing process with plugins & eq/compression ?
You'll just get exactly whatever quality sound of the original source. The downside to it for me is that you have no ability to EQ the sample as it's coming into the MPC. So if you sample something from UA-cam or wherever, you get the sound just as it is. For example, a lot of times I might sample a loop on UA-cam but if I want the bass line to stand out more or cut the highs, I'm kinda screwed. Unless of course you have a mixer somewhere in between the source (laptop) and the MPC.
Just got inspired like the rest in the comments 😃
If I get the Kontact program, do I need the laptop or can I use my PC? Also, I'm not sure how to record directly into MPC using the laptop or PC. Any suggestions? Thanks.
what kontakt libraries does he have? I'm spotting the abbey road drums and the vintage keys, but i can't tell the others
Where is part 1&2?
BTW, I've been using Maschine and logic for awhile, Thinking of checking out Kontakt, Would you recommend?
Of course my brotha, why wouldn't I?
in my ear this his base line looks completly quantized. anyone can you explain if i am wrong?
Marco what you use libraries to kontakt 5 ?
Tht a hot ass beat wht softwear are u using wth the mpc.
Lol nothing wrong with software
Lamark Garner it's native instruments kontakt
Hey Marco are you exporting your beats from the mpc 2000 xl through the main stereo outs or 8 individual outs? And what happen to your other mpc? Thanks
I mostly use the 8 outs BUT I've learned they don't sound as good and warm as the Stereo outs.So if you have the time to dump 2 tracks at a time ALWAYS use the stereo outs for maximum sound quality. My old mpc is on the closet resting haha.
Marco Polo much love to marco for responding to questions on youtube. And yeah the stereo outs are much better, saves alot of work later on in your daw.
@@MarcoPoloBeats If your dumping your tracks through the stereo jacks from MPC into pro tools how do you sync them. My guess is your looping them in Pro tools ! Lol let me know bro.
Can someone please explain to me what compression and lofi is? Thank you :)
Definitely ill
what is this for a plugin programm??
Marco Polo go to work,bummer
How did you play notes on your mac keyboard,
Through Kontakt
why no real keyboard bro? :-) still killin it
Chromatically mapped sounds on 16 pads of the MPC is able to produce 'chords and scales.' Peep JFilt's Essential HipHop Chords..
Plus Marco has an Akai LPK25 midi controller which he runs into Battery.
ChataFahKop
I rarely use the midi controller with Battery. Only in that one video. Never used it since then hahaha. I actually do play chords on the keyboard within Komplete. Not advised haha.
Marco Polo
Aha! boy is my face red :P
I literally study the methods used in your videos.. I even copped a 2000xl cause you make that shit look simple! I would like to see more of videos focus maybe on tutorials? That would be dope! Planning on copping that Pad thai vol. 1 as well. Funny thing happened today to, I was bumping pa2 and seen a Movie billboard that said "MARCO POLO" all big red caps
I KNOW THE DRUM BREAK BUT I AIN'T SAMPLE SNITCHING!!! :)
A HINT : IT'S OFF A SOUL RECORD
lmao @ "IT'S OFF A SOUL RECORD"...are you serious??
Chase Boogie yeah that's a little hint! just in case the curious wanna dig for it.
Real heads already know it ! no big deal :)
lol..nah i know..i just meant that its fairly obvious that the drums are from a soul record..lol
Chase Boogie :) yeah i guess so.
Yeah this is a pretty popular break
Lol this dude loves Newports....fire beats tho!!!
I just came.
anybody knows chords for those stabs? :D
