Such a touching story. The innocence of children and childhood speaks volumes about how positive first impressions of a person or group of people can last a lifetime and make you colorblind forever. I wish everybody could have experiences like this with the people around (and not around) them.

This story reminds me of growing up in Waycross Georgia in the early 90s we were country family and brought in a black kid was my best friend ever he was so athletic we would play on roofs he would do backflips off of it I remember one time just three kids picking on me and he whooped them all for me just a great friend and person miss him a lot hope he's doing all right

When I was 13 my best friend was 28 and had spent 9 years in prison for murder. We had a lot of fun hanging out together and cracking on people and each other and just acting stupid. I don't have any bad memories from that period.

Probably just because people grow apart. Rodman wasn't even able to keep up a consistent relationship with his own kid, so it makes sense. I'm pretty sure he was still close with the family earlier in his NBA career. I read his first book when I was a kid and it included this story. He had just joined the Spurs. I believe he was still in contact with them at that point.
