- Our Journey from Cape Coral to the Florida Keys continues. In this episode, we travel Biscayne Bay to find a marina to get our generator repaired. Weather takes a turn on us but we find dockage at Pelican Harbor marina to hole up for a few days waiting for a part. We then head towards Miami Beach Marina and have some fun.
Follow along with our boat trip on our 341 Meridian sport bridge motor yacht as we travel down the east coast and up the Gulf on our circumnavigation of south Florida.
1:56 Yes Tom,…..she looks *VERY* good. 😊
Glad it was the voltage regulator!!
Glad you got the voltage fixed. Amazing views. Again, thank you for sharing your adventures with all of us.
The Drinks at Monty's must not have been very strong "SOMEBODY/SHE" was able to walk a straight line back to the boat. 😊
C. Tom and A. Bridgett thanks for another great video. I am glad you got your air working again. hope to see more of your great videos. Tom you are a great Captain and a mechanic stay safe thanks alk in michigan
Beautiful.
I could feel your frustration on this one captain.as usual, captain, engineer, dog walker, biographer.well done.!!!
Matey told those dolphins to stay back ❤
Thanks for sharing
You guys are amazing!!
Wow! What a tour and a good look at the mechanics of your boat. Keep up the good work Skipper and Bridget! I'm keeping tabs on your numbers. They are climbing and rightfully so.
Love your videos. Stay safe.
your are on top of your game captain,,, nice work
Love it, love it, love it….. keep the videos coming.
Did you have to do much fine tuning on the voltage regulator? I guessed right as to what happened.
I haven’t tuned it at all. It can probably use a little weak but it gets set from factory pretty good. No problems after 100 hours running it.
I know that "boating" feeling of needing a cocktail LOL. When on a trip like this the issues can pile up. Those Kohler Generators seem to work about 50% of the time, I have the 7.5k with fuel injection and it is "needy". Do you guys have a collapsible wagon? We use one for toting our Matey sized dog around and even park it next to tables at restaurants. Keeps her feet cool and she feels protected even in busy places.
No cart but we bring a backpack. The hot ground doesn’t seem to bother him. I keep a close eye on him.
Nice video!
We used to launch at Black point marina and lunch at Bayside market. If you are near it, it’s worth the visit. Good luck with the ,$#@%$, repairs. One of my favorite sayings…..NothinsSimple😂🤣.
If it weren’t for the low times, we wouldn’t appreciate the good.
Looks like the day turned out good.
Miami….great to visit…not to live👍🇺🇸. My brother retired from Miami Dade PD👮♀️
@@runltdan I hear ya. We did visit Blackpoint marina. Was hoping to see Alfred and Fred the crop but no luck. That’s in a few episodes..
Had the 2006 341 with Cummins diesels. It had the 9k Onan generator. It had the Kubota engine in it. Had 2700 hours when I sold the boat. Never any problems. Changed impellers at 350 hours always. That thing was bulletproof.
I’ve been looking around for a 341 with the Cummins. Curious, how was the fuel efficiency and what did the top out at? Appreciate the feedback!
@@stevenlageson1868 with we had diesels!
Sea Isle is the marina our balcony looked over. Definitely some expensive yachts in there lol
O by the way Flagler Island is a cool walking visit. I enjoyed it. Not worth anchoring and dinging over to it though 😂
@@runltdan I hope the orange barriers were temporary.
$8.50 a foot? LOL that's crazy..
Geat video, team Happy 👍
Fresco has done sandbar parties at Monument I think.
Still not sure what the monument is for though.
Glad you got the Genny fixed, clever skipper! 🤙
@@Nezzer57 Fresco recently did a video on Monument Island. He walked the interior and explained what it was. I don’t recall what he said. Lol
@@AdventuresofHappyOurs I have those issues too lol 😆
Bridget is worth $8.50 a foot
Ahhh. Boat life.
Great episode, great captain repairs! How did you determine it to be the voltage regulator? Troubleshooting guide or just captain’s knowledge?
@@bktime3331 there is only a couple things that could cause the voltage problem and the regulator is notorious for it, so I went with that.
The generator engine sounds like it is hunting
@@1decks before the repair? I didn’t fine tune it. I was just happy it was working. Lol
@@AdventuresofHappyOurs good job figuring out what the problem was 👍
Are you retired? What did you do for a living?
Retired operations manager for Verizon. Now part time charter captain.
Hey Tom - generator question for you.
Your knowledge is well above mine. Hope you do not mind me learning from your experience and wisdom.
*Are you going to carry onboard a spare Kohler generator voltage regulator in the future? Will you also be carrying onboard a meeter to measure frequency? On my below list of spares I am already carrying onboard for the generator, do you see me missing something you feel I should add to my onboard generator specific spares for extended inland passage making?*
I already purchased the Kohler spares kit in the white plastic box, from the same website you showed in this video, and possibly the same kit. Kohler GM12310 Sea Spares Maintenance Kit for 4EF, 5E, 6EF, 7.3E I pre-gapped my spark plugs in the kit, then added the correct spark plug 13/16 deep socket and ratchet, two water pump impellers Kohler 359978 so I have three total spare generator impellers, two water pump impeller to motor sleeves 359448, two quarts of oil, one quart of coolant, and a spare water separating fuel filter. All this stuff except my spare water separating fuel filter fit into that white box and now it’s full.
In my tool kit I have a digital fluke multi-meeter but nothing to measure hertz frequency, basic hand and electricians tools, spray lubricant, electrical and fusion tape, cable ties, and random fasteners.
We are planning an extended trip from Green Bay through Ontario Canada’s Trent-Severn waterway.
It sounds like you are all set! I wouldn’t get a voltage regulator as a spare. You will hear it here first as I just discovered it today, but I think my regulator issue was actually a bad connection on the regulator harness. So it may have been a waste for me to buy a $400 part. Time will tell!
@@AdventuresofHappyOursperhaps when you get back home and the heat passes you could try your old voltage regulator to determine if its a viable spare. If it works you would have a spare.
If you don’t want a spare, someone would buy a working unit as a spare. Shoot, if its works, I’d make you a $100 cash offer for it if it works. We are going to be in Fort Lauderdale in January.
The items I’m most likely to add to my generator onboard spares kit are….
359789 Oil pressure sensor $49.82
249872 Exhaust temp sensor $89.16
359790 Coolant temp sensor $108.29
291891 Starter Solenoid $34.38
254920 Thermostat 165F $42.66
This list is in order of priorities. Prices are per the ASAP website you had in your video as of September 9 2024.
It’s a challenge to have onboard what is needed yet still have room for spares for other systems, an advanced first aid kit, food, clothing, and all the normal stuff including fenders, lines, hook, etc.
Nice job on this video Tom. My complements to you sir.
The old one seemed to work once I repaired the connector problem. I may do a video on it some time in the future.
Can the ICW be done in a 135 foot yacht and a draft of 8feet.
@@wesleyferguson6932 not all of it. At low tides you have under 6’ depth in places.
Just asking, where did you order your voltage regulator from?
@@williamthomas7107 www.partsfortechs.com
where did you find the Kohler dealer?
@@kenproulx8276 just found the part online from the distributer.
