  • Full step by step build of Tamiya's 1/48 scale Mitsubishi A6M2 Zero fighter plane (Zeke). This is one of the lesser detailed Zero's on the market and unfortunately I couldnt find any photo etch parts for this particular kit. Quick build so I decided to weather it a little extra and dry brush aluminum to simulate paint chipping.
    Paints (Acrylic - all Tamiya brand):
    XF-11 (fuselage, wings)
    X-2
    X-7
    X-11
    X-13
    XF-1
    XF-10
    XF-16
    XF-21 (underside)
    XF-71
    Tamiya primer

    Nice Build of an old Tamiya Classic. Modelers have been asking Tamiya to re-make it with today's standards. This particular model of the Zero is the most important one to me. They did come out with a beautiful A6M2b in 1/72. The good news is that Eduard is releasing in December 2021 a new Zero A6m2 in 1/48 Scale. First release will be a 2 pack with lots of decals to build different versions of the Tora Tora Tora mission in Pearl Harbor.

    Great. I have 2 of these kits and am just starting to build one in IJN grey with low detail to hang from the ceiling. I will use this video as a guide. The next will be the dark green camo with more detail and open canopy.

    Please be aware on early war a/c that control surface were typically covered with fAbric so you won’t want to put aluminum scaling in their surfaces. Otherwise very nicely done.

    Hi, have watched all the videos you have posted, really great, but would be nice with either a caption or volume. Also maybe a list of add on parts would be a nice touch. All in all some really great builds, again thanks for the videos

      Thanks! My early videos dont have captions but Ive started adding them on my more recent ones. Maybe one day Ill get some narration going. I usually put the add on parts I bought in the video description but for this Zero, it was a basic "out of the box" build.

    The control surfaces of the Zero were (like most fighters and bombers of this era) fabric covered. It would be hard to see chipped paint spots exposing the aluminum beneath if what is underneath the paint is fabric. Nice job despite this, and it looks like you got most of that off, anyway, in the end. Just remember that you cannot show the underlying metal if there is none.

    Great job! I had this kit since the late 80's in my closet and now, at last, I decided to build it! Back then, the instruction sheet was a bit different and the decals were listed using letters! I would like to ask you a question, if you remember: Is decal No. 7 (2 pcs.) fitted? In my instruction sheet they are shown to be placed on the cowling, assymetrically! Do you have any idea on that?

    • @ScaleModelAssassin
      @ScaleModelAssassin  3 роки тому

      Thanks! I tried to find some info on that particular decal and could not. I don't think I added any decals to the cowling. I don't have the instructions anymore, but from a screenshot in my video, is decal #7 the thin white bars?

    • @ioannismouslidis5398
      @ioannismouslidis5398 3 роки тому

      @@ScaleModelAssassin Yes, they are the two white stripes. In my instruction sheet they are named J and they are to be placed on the port side of the machine guns on the cowling. In the instruction sheet of your kit (61016) they are not mentioned to be fitted anywhere! But they are on the decals sheet! Additionally, in all the photos I found on the internet no modeller has fitted them! However, I found one and only reference to them on the internet, that states they were painted in later versions of Zeros for the synchronization of the machine guns. I wrote to you because I thought that maybe you had noticed this issue!

    How do you glue on the cockpit, I always mess that up and get it super foggy. And my next question is what do you use to glue parts together once they’re painted, will Revell contacta professional glue dissolve the paint?

    • @ScaleModelAssassin
      @ScaleModelAssassin  3 роки тому +2

      Id recommend PVA glue (Elmers glue) on the canopy and some of those small parts that you have to glue on once everything is painted (antenna, pitot tube, bombs, canopy, etc). I havent used Revell glue, but I think it will dissolve the paint if its like the other types of plastic cement. Sometimes Ill use Tamiya extra thin if I think I can apply it very precisely and not have it get on the paint.

    Really nice build. But, one question. Did you apply your decals on a flat paint ? I didn't see much gloss on your paint.

    • @ScaleModelAssassin
      @ScaleModelAssassin  6 років тому +1

      Thank you. I skipped the gloss coat on this plane either by mistake or I was out of gloss spray and didnt want to wait 1 day to go buy more...cant remember. I guess I proved its not impossible to apply decals without glossing first, but Id recommend using a gloss coat, especially if youre going to use a panel liner. I doubt Ill be skipping it in the future.
