Peter, I'm rather late the party, but I just got my (used but mint) M6 Mark II maybe month ago. I've tried watching other videos on doing the update, but none ever worked. Yours did. my camera is fully updated to shoot at 24 fps. Thank you for the easy, step by step instructions.
I'm happy it helped. I hope you enjoy your M6 Mark II. It's a good little camera.
Thanks for the video Peter. By the way there is a new firmware update Ver. 1.1.1 (Published Date 01/29/2021)
Does that one have 24fps? Coz it doesn't update to having 24fps...
I have a Mac and you made this tutorial easy for anyone! Great job!
Glad it helped!
Awesome, that worked and was the exact quick and easy tutorial I was looking for. THANK YOU!
Thanks Peter, I used this video to update the firmware the first time, I thought there might have been another update since, checked & their was but I couldn't remember how to do it, so your video has helped me once again :-)
Nice! I'm happy it helped.
This great. I ordered an M6 Mk2 today. Coming from the Rebel series. Thanks!
Thank you for sharing this. I was waiting for the update and I noticed this video. Your video was very helpful. Thank you.
Thanks for sharing!! This video was super helpful for me. I just picked up this camera a week ago as my first serious camera for UA-cam. So your channel has been really helpful. Thanks for your efforts!!
Hi Peter. I've had the M6 since it came out. Unfortunately with the pandemic and dealing with the covid situation, my photography and video pretty much took the back seat. So thanks to your video, and after all this time, I was finally able to make this update happen so I can step up my game. Now I just need to check out your video on "Tips, Tricks & Hidden Features". So thanks again and take care.
Thanks! I hope you find the video helpful.
Thanks for the video!! This is super helpful!
You're welcome!

Your channel helps a lot - Have a nice day - Claude
Thank you Claude. I'm happy it worked. Have yourself a great day as well.
Thank you for sharing this video tutorial. Works well. I forgot to put it on P mode, But fortunately nothing wrong happened.
I'm happy it worked for you.
I recently got a 6m mark ii. It is replacing a 10 yr old T2i, so for me it is huge move forward!. I ran on to something today though that is very strange. I had not taken a lot of video with the camera, so I upgraded the firmware and decide to try some 24p. I was using the 22mm EF-M lens. The video was of my son practicing soccer. It was sunny today and there was plenty of light. When I got home and looked at the footage I notice what looked like a faint string running down from the top of the screen about 3/4 of an inch long. I took several different videos and it was present in all of them. So I tried taking a video and sure enough it was there. Faint but noticeable. I tried taking a picture (Manual mode) -- no string appeared in the image.
All of the footage that I had taken earlier and just then were with the camera mode selector in video mode (the camera icon on the dial). So I put it on M and hit the rec button. The video did not have the string? So I turned the camera off and gently hit my hand on the top left hand corner (camera facing away from me) where the string seemed to be located. I took another video in video mode. The string had moved a little to the left. Did another gentle hit and now I do not see it. Then I took the lens off and found a very small hair on the edge of the lens plate. (I should have taken the lens off first!). So I assume this is what I was seeing.
But the question is why did it show up in video mode, but not M mode for pictures of video????
I wish I had an answer for you, but I don't. Maybe depth of field difference from the video to the picture? What was the aperture set at for each? If your picture was shot wide open at f2 and the video was shot at F11 maybe a wider depth of field picked up the hair. I'm not sure.
@@faspete2nd The aperture was the same it was ff2.5. So, I'm not sure. But removing he hair solved it.
I am enjoying your M6 series. Keep up the good work!
Yes you must have camera on P mode.
Thank you. I was having a heart attack, I thought I had broken the camera
Good to know.
Thank you !
Your welcome!
thank you so much
You're welcome!
THANK YOU
You are welcome.
Hi, great video. I followed your instructions to the letter and my M6 MK2 but it did not work for me. The 24fps option is not there. In P M or Movie Mode It tells me on the camera that the firmware is 1.1.0. What am I doing wrong?
If you are outside the United States your camera is probably set to PAL. You need to set your camera to NTSC and the 24fps will show up as an option.
@@faspete2nd Thank you so much for the help! That was the issue! Cant believe I never thought of that!
@@faspete2ndthis helped thanks. But I am in South Africa won't recording in ntsc affect me since I am suppose to record in PAL this side?
Awesome thank you!
You're welcome!
very helpfull thank you
Glad it helped
Great vedio thanks
Thank you.
*off the topic* is there any way to use your phone like a wireless external monitor with the m6ii? (without aye transmiter ou adapters)
Try using the Canon connect app. It let you use the phone as a monitor and you can also operate the camera directly from the phone.
What if my menu looks different and dont have options for firmware?
Did your camera ship with the update already?
I wonder if First Curtain Shutter can be applied by Canon via a firmware update to quell shutter shock?
Canon can probably improved a lot of stuff with firmware updates if they wanted to.
What is the reason to take off the lens before update?)
No real reason. Just a precaution to eliminate any other connections while updating.
@@faspete2nd got it, thanks
What do like shooting in 24fps or 30fps or does it matter?
Im going to shoot in 24p because I believe the files is not that heavy
@@MEEKSREVIEWS definitely..with cinematic images
It really does matter. Go to UA-cam and search 24p vs 30p and see the difference. You will get a more cinematic effect with 24p. Remember to set the shutterspeed to atleast 2x of 24 (1/50,1/100, 1/200 etc)
Not as easy as updating a gopro by any means. You can do that straight through the app with no pulling out the card and copy and paste hassle
Hello, i just bought m6 mark ii today,. i upgraded firmware to 1.1.0. i checked video size. there is no 24fps . what can be problem? i checked firmware and showing 1.1.0
Martial Bodies TV posted this in a previous comment. Seeing as how you are in the UK, your camera is set up to use PAL (as opposed to NTSC, which is what we use in North America). Pal already allows you to shoot in 25 FPS. NTSC only allowed 30 FPS, so this firmware upgrade allowed us to shoot "24" FPS. Some North Americans would use PAL and adjust their shutter speed to prevent light flicker in order to shoot in 25 FPS, which obviously is more or less the "same" as 24 FPS.
@@faspete2nd Thank you very much. i already changed to NTSC then i can see 24fps now.
If there is a firmware update, should we definitely use a card reader or can we also use a data cable?
I have never used a data cable to update so I can't comment on this. Sorry.
Hello! I reset my camera and the sd card and im not getting the firmware option in the menu. Im doing everything as explained here. Can you help me please?
Are you trying to update or did you already update? Can you give me more information?
Hi Peter. I have followed the instructions and upgraded the firmware to 1.1.0 but it hasn't added 24fps. I downloaded the firmware from the Canon UK website. I wouldn't have thought that this would make a difference, would it?
Your camera is probably set to PAL if you are outside the United States. Try setting it to NTSC and the 24fps option should show up.
@@faspete2nd cheers :) It absolutely did
@@faspete2nd thanks it's worked... greetings from Indonesia..
Good day. I am in South Africa. I did this firmware update but it shows version 1.1.1 and it does not have 24fps. How do I then get 24fps?
Your camera is probably set to PAL if you are outside the United States. Try setting it to NTSC and the 24fps option should show up.
Hi Peter i have just done this upgrade and camera confirms update but nowhere can i find the 4 k 24.98 fps settings ..any ideas?
If you are outside of the US you have to change the camera to NTSC in the wrench menu #2 video system. PAL to NTSC
@@faspete2nd you legend .. how mad is that? thank you!
@@TeaandTickers No problem. Happy I could help. Pay attention to light flickering at 24fps in NTSC. You might not get it on all situations, but just be aware you might in some situations if you are shooting around lights.
For some reason it's no longer available on the website for the Mark II. I see a firmware update for the M6 but not the mark II
I don't think it matters the firmware update will work. Try and see. I had another viewer say the same thing.
Can you get it off of a different Canon sight maybe Cannon Hong Kong?
Sorry the other viewer was talking about the software update to the webcam utility not the firmware update.
@@faspete2nd Thanks for the fast reply. I did find it on the canon Hong Kong website. I assume same firmware and safe to download? Thanks in advance.
@@PaulOnTheRun I can't promise anything, but I don't see why it would not be safe and not be the same update. I've never used anything but Canon USA. Maybe contact Cannon USA and see what's up with the firmware being taken down before you download the Hong Kong one.
Do I need to format SD before doing this operation? or I can leave my photos on SD
I have always formatted the cards, but you can try leaving the photos and see. As long as you have space on the card it should work.
@@faspete2nd Thanx. I have 256 gb SD, so it should be enough space
Let me know if it works when you do it.
Yes, you can place the firmware and photos on the same card during the update process
on the last step after i select firmware it won't highlight OK for me... hoping its my battery level. charging now
Okay guys, so my battery level was too low for me to select the last "OK" on screen but the camera will not tell you that. Charge your camera up and you shouldn't have the same prob i had.
Thanks for the update. Keep those batteries charged.
What about the personell settings? Are they still there or have I to do to configure my cam again?
Thanks from Germany 🇩🇪
My personal settings remained unchanged after the firmware update. C1 & C2 settings were also unchanged after the firmware update.
Peter Fasciano thank you - 🙂
i currently dont have a card reader for my pc, can i copy the firmware file directly
to the card via the camera connected to my pc (via usb-c)? is this possible with no issue? thanks
I think you can. I got this from Canon site.
Connect the camera and the computer.
Rotate the Mode Dial to select mode (or one of other modes in the creative zone).
Insert a SD card that has been formatted in the camera into the camera.
Connect the camera and the computer with the USB cable, and then set the camera's power switch to .

A window for selecting files appears, so select the firmware update file, and then click [Open].
A confirmation window appears, so click [OK].
A window with cautionary messages about the update appears, so click [OK].
Follow the procedure from Step (4) onward on the camera.
(4) Update the firmware.
The screen will appear on the cameraÖ³ LCD monitor.
If you press the button, a confirmation screen will appear, so check the firmware update shown, press the Cross keys to select [OK], and press the button again to start the firmware update.
The message will appear during the update.
When the update is completed, the message will appear on the cameraÖ³ LCD monitor.
Complete the firmware update by pressing the button.
Is there 4K30p for the M6 mark2?
Yes.
When I try to paste the sd cards root it does not work it just makes a sound but it dosnt actually go on the card
Arthur, did you ever get it figured out? I am not that technical of a person when it comes to computer trouble shooting.
you need to move the Arabic subtitles from across the screen
I'm not sure I do that on my side. I thought you controlled the subtitles on your side of things.
Hi Peter, I installed it and it says under firmware that its v1.1.0 but I cannot see 24fps in video settings. Can you please advise? Thank you!
Mode is set to video? Red Camera Icon menu 1 selected? Movie rec quality selected? Movie rec. size selected? 4k 23.98P and right next to that FHD 23.98P is not there?
@@faspete2nd Weirdly enough. They are not there. I have only 5 options: 4k 25p, FHD 25p , FHD 50p, HD 50p and FHD 25p. :/
@@LukaDriveswhere are you in the world? I wonder if the firmware update is different in different countries. I'm not sure why you don't have the 24fps option.
Peter Fasciano I’m in UK 😐
@@LukaDrives set your region to NTSC and you will have 23.976fps
did everything, mine didn't change
Check your camera's firmware version you might already have the update.
@@faspete2nd mine is 1.1.1 but only 25 an 50 fps are available
@@faspete2nd found the problem, i was in pal mode
