Would be cool to hear a comparison between the two basses. For me, the Spector body shape is a must in having a Spector. Nothing is as comfortable.
So after about 17 years, I have finally achieved my dream of owning a Spector Euro 4 LX 😍😍😍. Been dreaming of it since I was 7 years old. Now I'm 24 and I made that dream come true!!!! I saved up a lot of dough last year just for that bass, and I can't believe that came true!!!!!
Congrats! They are amazing basses!
@@RodneyMcG thanks!!!!!
That is interesting how similar the builds are on those two instruments.
This was a good nuts and bolts episode.
Also Empire Strikes Back rules 🤘🤘
It was rearly surprising. Im mad at myself for passing on a few. And yes, it does!
hey man gotta say i really enjoy your channel. informative, thoughtful, well spoken, great production and a rad environment. look forward to each new video
I appreciate that!
yes.. more featured instruments. Thanks for doing this one..I have 2 Euros, a 2002 all maple and and 2020. I'm in love. The Czechs have a long history of quality manufacturing especially instruments. I biased though as Czech ancestry runs through my blood!
I could definitely see that being a good alternative; there are enough similarities. But it's still missing some key Spector features: the curved back, smaller body, rounded horns (that one is rather pointy), Tonepump pre, quarter-sawn 3-piece US maple neck with titanium reinforcement (Spector ships the same neck blanks used on the US NS basses to Czech Republic). And if you're comparing to the Euro LX and not earlier Euro 4, it is missing the walnut layer between the top and back. Note that the more recent Euro LX models also have Gotoh tuners and separate battery cover in the back.
I can see the logic in this bass being a good substitute, I don't disagree. Especially for the price. Seems like a good deal. But I think the aesthetics and ergonomics of the NS body are a huge part of what makes Spector basses special. The crown inlays are iconic (though I own a US and some Euros without inlays or with dots). That "wave" inlay on that Dean is unattractive. I don't think you show the headstock, either. It's pretty ugly as far as headstocks go, while the Spector 4-string headstock is a great design, visually.
For the possibility of gaining more YT exposure, a 2nd separate vid could expose you to more viewers. 2cents
I would like to see the hidden gems in addition to the regular metal bass monday.
Dean is nearly impossible to get here in germany :-(
I've drooled over Spectors since the mid 80's!!!
As all good players have!
Crazy this pops up as I've been considering clearing some old gear out to fund a Spector euro 5LX... Love the videos man, keep it up!
Hope it helps you get something like on the cheap!
Great video lot of information 👍. Will definitely be looking for the Dean
Hope it helps you get a winner on the cheap!
Loving this new segment, great to unearth these gems.
I have my own. Eden VT300, same manufacturer, same guts, but can take 6550s or EL34s as the Sadowsky SA200 which can just take EL34s. The Eden is half the price, if not 1/3rd for more power
Nice!
Yes do the lost in time episodes love to see more!!
More coming next week!
Not entirely sure about format, but the idea of these videos is great. Separate series might be a little more organized though.
The Czech's were hilarious !!
Would love to Czech one out if they ever turn up here in the UK! Otherwise still keeping an eye out for a good 2nd hand Euro 5!
2nd video might be cooler - extra views, might hit new audience, and more content is always fun. :)
Blade Runner, Empire Strikes Back, and basses - A winning combination. Oh, and RODNEY !
Featuring more of these instruments on Metal Bass Monday would be great since I look forward to Czeching in on Mondays already.🤘
I see what you did -there 😉
Now I'm going to have to Czech that Dean out.😉
@@iutchube Do it!
@@RodneyMcG If only I lived where Czech my ancient ancestors came from... But here where I live, in Brazil, chances of finding one of those are pretty slim. But I'll try.
Series would be great. Lot of great things are passed over.
Vote noted- thanks!
Looking at the Spector NS Pulse 5. It has the P/J EMG's configuration and TonePump preamp 🤩
It's a sexy beast, no doubt
Sorry if I’m late to the party, the way I see it is whatever you feel is the best way to go about your channel I’m sure it’ll be fine. But honestly,if it’s not broken why fix it? Because ok, metal Monday, I get it cool but I’m sure I’m not alone in this world being a metal fan & a gear nerd so keep up with the good work & killer videos hope all is well take care.
Thanks for the input. I decided to go that way, and it's a second series now.
I ordered The only European custom Select i could find anywhere, i can’t wait to try it out. it should be a good replacement for the junky mtd artist 4 i bought a few months ago.
Nice! Where did you find it?
Rodney McG At a guitar center in Eerie, Pennsylvania. I paid right under $570 after taxes and shipping for it.
@@J_Ritz Nice!
I have an NS2000/5. That's a Korean Spector. I put an EMG BQC preamp and EMG 40DC & 40CS pickups in it and I will put it up against that piece of shit you have there. Some may be put off by the weight on the NS2000/5 but im not on tour so it doesnt bother me. Neck through w/brass nut and it has sustain for days. With the electronics I installed I can get any tone I want but it shines if you're after that growl that Spectors are known for. I know guys that have Euros and the NS2000/5 and a couple of them say they prefer the Korean bass. I passed up a zebrawood rebop the other day that was $500 because it didnt come close to my Spector in the tone department. I believe new Euros are shipping with Darkglass tone capsule preamps which is an improvement. I have basses that range from cheap as hell to "dont tell my wife" expensive and if you dismiss the Korean made Spectors (especially the older ones) then you are missing out on some fine instruments that put other imports to shame.
I had one and sold it..wish I wouldnt have...It was an awesome bass.
I've had some sell regret myself. It's rough!
I believe the MTD Grendel? was made in the same factory for awhile as well. One of the MTD models, I can't remember which one
Yeah, I think some of the Kingston as well. I could be wrong though. I know the later ones were in Asia
@@RodneyMcG i think you are right, i think it was the Kingston Heir not the Grendel. I couldnt remember the model names. I'd like to try one of these Dean Euros!
Keep an eye out, they pop up one in a while
Having worked for GC for 8yrs, I'd always try to like those Deans basses I'm particularly. But I could never truly get past the headstock's and the obvious generic Euro feature
I would really have liked to hear a sound comparison.
I'd really like to have a bunch of spectors just laying around. But I don't!
@@RodneyMcG wouldn't we all!
Professor like I told before I know a guy that knows a guy😎🤘
Then tell a guy!!
What's your opinion on the Kramer Forum 1? I've read that Kramer copied the NS-2 tech (including the Haz Lab), but I can't find a lot of sound or video samples of the Forum 1. I like the design and the quality seems very good, maybe it's another poor man's NS-2...
I've never gotten one in hand. It's a good one to keep an eye out for. Thanks for the suggestion.
i'll take a real spector, but cool if you are on a budget, you forgot to mention what preamp it comes with though
B series EMG
Maybe mention it on Monday and supply a link to a quick review?
smart!
It would had been nice to hear the Dean played.
Keep your eyes open- more coming!
What model of Dean is it?
European custom select
@@RodneyMcG thank guy. :)
What's the preamp on that Dean?
EMG b series
There's a bit of a difference in pre, but probably not a ton. The Czech HAZ in the older NSCR models and the Tonepump in the Euros are fantastic.
@@drewinman7171 yeah, I actually prefer it as I wasn't a fan of the tone pump. For me, this one is clearly better.
How would you say the P/CS fairs against a P/DC config? I'm playing with pickup setup in my LTD F 415 5 string currently CS/DC.
Less of the brittle DC high end. Closer to a pj sound with more thickness from the bridge
Love the czech marks! 😂
Glad you Czeched it out 😉
short answer....no! :)
Long answer- yes!
@@RodneyMcG sure sure...its still not a Spector! I've never played one of the Euro Deans, definitely would like to now though! Czech out( see what I did there?) the MTD that was also made in the same factory for a time. They also go for about 500-600.
@@grooveholmes79 sounds the same, feels the same, made by the same people, good enough for me! Used prices have gotten absolutely insane lately. The MTD of all variations have dramatically crept up on the used Market. Most I see are nearly a thousand now.
Seriously, As I have played both, and owned 9 different Spectors in my time. This is a Euro with a different name and body shape. Holding them both, there's no doubt.
No
Maruszczyk basses are a great company in Germany. Will be hard pressed to find any in US I think. I would leave a link but I'm not allowed to, yt doesn't like sharing, although you'd think it would, since its owned by communists!!!
Public - peace De / custom shop
It allowed to to post the words above but I had to take out the (.) Before DE. Odd. Thanks Rodney. Your committment to your channel is inspiring. How the fuck you come up with new material so often is beyond me. ✌️
I'll check it out
Taking about bass to you guys is the only thing that preserves my girlfriend's sanity😂
That is not a spector euro bass..yes they are made at the Czech republic plant, however they use different tooling..and don't use bartolini custom picks ups.,or the top quality emg pick ups.....the emg pick ups used in the dean are the cheaper emg hz pick ups which are not active, they are passive.....the emg pick ups used on the spector euro are active emg dc40s,or emgdc35..active....the hardware used on the spector is high quality vs..the cheaper quality on the Dean....the euro has the mother of pearl inlays, the dean doesn't have any...the paint finishes are much high end versus the dean cheaper......you are telling your subscribers that a 2,700 dollar spector euro is the same dean 500 dollar bass..not true ...yes the only difference you see,not what the spector manufacturer sees...your not being 100 percent reliable or honest......so thats a blatant lie...you can't get a original spector euro lx for 500 dollars....and i own 5 Spector's.
4 spector euro lx 5...and..1 spector euro rebop lx5
I don't know what inspired your little rage fit here, but you should really resist making an ass out of yourself. Your first comment in the first sentence showed me you either didn't watch the video or are in desperate need of an oxygen-rich environment. I clearly stated the emgs in it are active and are the high-end model. You go on to rant about bartolini and other emgs that this wasn't supplied with that have nothing to do with this bass, and aren't even mentioned. So you didn't pay attention, you had some kind of fanboy emotional spin out, and then decided to leave a nasty comment full of delusionary ranting that proves you didn't actually watch the video. The only person lying here is you when you make any claim to having basic comprehension skills. Do better.
@@RodneyMcG not true you lied by agreeing with a myth that you can get a spector euro lx for 500dollars..the dean and spector are not nearly the same at all..you are going ballistic because your subscribers now see you are not knowledgeable at all..only spewing rumors and lies...you clearly stated that the dean and spector euro are the same..you are a liar..any knowledgeable bass player with 4 cents of common sense, knows..their comparisons ,is not valid..stop giving out false fabricated, information..you are a joke..
OH MY GO!! YOU'RE RIGHT!! I lost so many subscribers the minute i posted this and...................oh no, wait. Not a single one left. Again you're making delusional claims you have no knowledge of. Stop your crying, making up insane claims, and get some psychological help. Bye.
Neck is different, body shape is different, different EMGs, different preamp (not a Tonepump).... and it's NOT a Spector. Sorry, you're clutching at straws here....
I'm not clutching at straws. You're just being obnoxious. The neck is barely different and well within expected tolerance. even within the same series I've seen bigger differences. Fundamentally it's the same instrument. I've worked on instruments for over 25 years and been involved in two major guitar companies. I know what I'm talking about. I can tell when a body is made from the exact same core as others. Your arguments really just don't stand up, especially the one about emgs since three different variations at the minimum came in the Euro series. I compared it against one of the very first series that I happened to own. Not everyone that's ever existed. So that part of the argument doesn't hold water either. Plus, you may want to look on the Spectre sight and see that the tone pump wasn't always used in the Euro LX.
@@RodneyMcG I'm not being obnoxious, though your holier than thou reply certainly is...!
I was simply pointing out that: for as many 'similarities' there may be, you can find as many 'differences'...! But, hey, you wouldn't have a video if you did that would you? Lol! ;-)
As for the argument about preamp, you've just proved MY point.... Early Euros came with a Czech Haz copy, EMG...OR Aguilar OBP. All later ones came with a Tonepump. All had different sound characteristics. The Dean just has a stock EMG pre. So, it may ONLY be similar to the few early ones that came with EMG pre's.
So, that's diff body shape, size, thickness and contours.... diff neck construction/feel.... diff (to most) preamp, diff choice of EMG pickup etc.
"Can you really buy a Spector Euro LX for $500?!" NO...
I refer you to my previous comment 'clutching at straws'.
Holier than though is exactly what your condescending commentary was, so it should sit quite well with you. You are just one of those cork sniffing people who love to engage in this crap. Your arguments are still incoherent. You have no point other than to play semantic games. Now saying that there are huge variances in the Euro series, but they all qualify as euro, but the differences in-between the dean and those euros, many of which are even smaller, somehow make it utterly different. Again, I'll refer to your own comment about grasping at straws. Then you also say the preamp may only be similar to some early ones. SO IT IS SIMILAR BY YOUR OWN ARGUMENT! And yet you think this proves your point, when it actually invalidates it. Do you even think this crap out before you type it? At the end of the day what are we looking at? I'm offering people a good deal, and maybe a fun search on a bass that feels and plays just like a bass many lust after but can't afford, is just as well appointed, built by the same people, using the same core. Screw me, right? What are you offering other than contrarian for the sake of argument commentary that just shits on everything. No thanks.
@@RodneyMcG One thing about a preamp that was occasionally used in the early days is the best you can do? Fantastic...
End of the day it's NOT a Spector and has MANY key differences to a Spector. That much is clear...
Looking forward to your next video on a bass that isn't like another bass.... lol!
I'll look forward to your next self invalidating argument while you dance around acting like you won something. See you then!
