The hymn sung is the third verse of hymn 259 authored by William Williams Pantycelyn - A lot of his hymns fit the measure 87.87.47 to which "Cwm Rhondda" was written. Amazingly random choice for the film. Still an obscure hymn but the words are suitable for a wedding (or a funeral) funny lot us Welsh
my one grandad was a Thomas, came from the valleys, and my other grandad, my maiden name, was Hughes, and they came from west Wales. I have to say I love Wales and always will. pity my hubby won't leave Worcester to go and live there, lol. xx
Great movie with a wonderful cast and real Welsh singers singing real Welsh songs in Welsh language. If you can find it, look for Jeanne Ritchie's version of this song. It will make the hair on your arms stand up.
I wholeheartedly agree with you. The scene where she professes her love for him and then he basically rejects her is heartbreaking! And then he lurks in the background at the wedding like the coward that he is. He claims that he doesn't want to subject her to a life of poverty, but he, like most men, doesn't recognize her inner strength and all the qualities that make her a real woman.

Those are the words Owainmeurig, not a recognizable hymn to me from the Methodist Hymn Book from the 1920s _ have an original version of that hymnal somewhere and hymns are indexed by first line. Clearly not a translation of Guide me o thou great Jehovah... This tune would be more closely linked to Anne Griffiths' "Wele'n sefyll rhwng y myrtwydd" in the Welsh language. There is a chance the words were specially written for the film.
