A lot of useful information in here! Thank you so much. Also I'm not sure how much of a script you have for this but if you did it all off the top of your head then that's pretty amazing.
Good video. My folks had sheep when I was a kid and we've had sheep for about 12 years now. I had never heard the term fehlem - not sure if I spelled that right - , or the term foggert- I 'll have to watch again to check my spelling on that one too. 😊 Anyway, very informative. Thanks!
Thank you for your videos, very informative. We are about to adopt 5 adult barbados blackbelly sheep. As far as I know the ewes have never lamb before, they are 3 and 4 years old. Do you think this age is too old to get them pregnant? I am obviously not experienced at these and the internet is not being very helpful.
Good question, it all depends on how well they're managed and fed. But I've heard from a few sources of ewes having healthy lambs as old as 8 and 9 years old. I've also heard of one case where a ewe was sold because she had stopped lambing, then she was given better management (fresh pasture, rotated regularly) and then she started lambing again. Hope this helps and good luck! Let us know how it goes.
That's a great question, but I don't know anything about geese. However I found that in close settings chicken poop will get in the way of good grazing for sheep. If you have ample space, I bet it's not a problem. Best case scenario is to do sheep in a mob grazing system and then put your geese on that paddock after sheep. Just a guess because I know other about geese!
Agreed. FYI, Geese are fowl that only feed on grass. They eat like sheep. You give them grain during mating season like ewes; Geese produce profits from meat ($5 lb wholesale), & feathers (goose down) just like sheep hair & meat. I forgot eggs are $2 per egg. Trying to reach a flock or "gaggle" of 1000.900 more to go - 😆. Are baby dolls good meat producers. I heard it's very flavorable & in demand? Is that true?
I'm not the best to give advice for that since I had a sweet deal for that. But I would guess anywhere between $200 and $800, maybe more for a good bloodline.
I'm not the best to ask since I have a sweet deal that allows me to do it at very low cost. But I'd guess between $200-800. That would be for like 45 days.
@Mordechai Ridge amazing. Maybe try posting to people who are asking for that kind of information instead of being spammy. You'll get a better response rate 😊
This was so informative! Thank you for doing this.

Haha, I write scripts for these.

Can you explain if the sire is also used to impregnate his offspring or do you need to maintain 2 rams so the genetics don’t cross?
I've heard you can line breed 3-4 generations if you have a great sire and aren't noticing any problems.
Hi…I’m from Costa Rica where do you have your farm?
This video was in Utah, but now I'm in North Carolina, USA.
Can I graze sheep & Geese @ the same time in the same pasture?

How long is a ewe's cycle? Is it roughly a month like humans or shorter?
14-19 days
@@homesteadingwithPJ thanks! 😊
What is an approximate cost for the loan of a Ram and the normal length of time kept?

I laughed a bit too hard at 'what's it called when you're not a lamb?'
😂
