Bagus sekali! This is such a wonderful performance of a traditional dance. I need to do more research on it! Initially it seems very strange to discover that A; It was traditionally a MALE Dance, yet I have seen several performances ALL BEING FEMALE ONLY..inspite of the fact that it was given a special UNESCO preservation order, as it were; I mean…why is it almost exclusively females doing it now when if we wish to preserve heritage, it is really a male dance ? I mean only good will by this post and it is just a question since it has become one of my favourite cultural forms and I personally very much enjoy the woman dancing it; yet how has this change of form and role occurred and why? However, mainly I wish to offer many, many, many thanks for the superb performance here. Further, my information is merely WIKIPEDIA, so I may be wrong anyway! Whatever! It is a lovely art form and this performance absolutely superb! Thank you! Sehat!
Because it is a different dance. Most of the performance in internet are Ratoh Jaroe/Ratoh Duek which performed by females. The original Saman dance is still a male dance because it has powerful chest clap movements that might be hurting females. The languages they used to dance between Ratoh Jaroe and Saman are different too because it's from different tribes. They usually call them wrong because it has similar movements and from the same region. (I can only explain a little bit since I'm javanese, maybe my Aceh brothers and sisters can explain this further) So, yeah. It's because people keep calling them wrong and got it messed up.
ua-cam.com/video/fG9wrdSeJ-c/v-deo.html This is Saman Gayo. Which performed by males. You can notice the difference in language and the powerful movements.
Hi, I was in Indonesia the past week visiting family and am making a short video of my time there. The video will be uploaded onto my personal Facebook page, and maybe this account for my family and friends to see, it's a kind of tribute to my Oma - not for any profit purposes, but just for people to see a little of what Indo is like. Would you mind if I took some of the sound from this clip for my video? Thank you
Indonesian people must pride to be unity in diversity and Harmony, all folk dance and culture art in Indonesia or (witch is called) "Nusantara" in the ancient time, contain symbolic mean in every dance and art folk. Thousands island country, thousands culture and natives.
Now, Saman’s also performed by women although in Aceh, if Saman’s performed by women it is called Meusekat and it’s not originated from Gayo but from West and South Aceh. However, outside Aceh, people called both kind of dances as Saman. Maybe because both dances characterized by it’s dynamic and well-coordinated movement of its players.

Logical Indian why not?

@@logicalindian7198 yes, in Aceh Province dancing are not prohibited, but only group of all female or all male not a mixed gender performance.
