Right? I like that the apologies weren't just "I'm sorry" they were her trying to figure out a solution to the problem she's causing. It helps her feel accountable because she came up with the idea vs because her mom "told her so".
Knowing Jenna had to write apology letters to her mom as a kid shows us why she made that hour long apology video about the fishes she got at the pet store. 😂❤️
dinkdonkabbie I had a red electric scooter that I begged my parents to get me for my birthday for about 6 months straight until they caved and I cherished that thing so much
My journal was also emo as hell and talking about how mad I was at people. I never wrote much because I didn’t like how depressing I was 😂 I also deleted my finsta for the same ass reason. I don’t think I ever talked about my scooter but also fUCK my scooter for throwing me to the ground one day for no ass reason. And also for hitting my in the ankles. Fuck that bitch 😂😂😂
I did a project of sea animals back in primary school, I spent so long drawing pictures of sea creatures including a leopard seal which I was super proud of, each creature had a little blurb about it. I remember all that my teacher said was accuse me of tracing the leopard seal, which I honestly didn't. I'm 30 now and I still remember it vividly.
I once did a project in 4th grade over different native tribes and their practices, and I combed through the school's various recommended websites and typed like a five page essay ... with all the cited sources. I was proud turning it in, and the first thing my teacher did was glance over and accuse me of plagarism. That shit hurted
honestly this shit makes me so mad. I was accused of lying for attention when I was reading Philip Pullman's His Dark Materials when I was 8 or so because my teachers daughter was struggling to read them at university age, and then I was given detention for doing joint writing two years too early. Whaaaaaat the fuuuuuuuuck. I'm 21 now, still mad about it.
These apology letter things are where it’s at. Debbie Machine was on to something. Apologize, propose a solution, and hand write it. Constructive yet unenjoyable.

I teach over the summers and one year I had to have a child's parents called because the kiddo was misbehaving (and like yeah kids misbehave but this was getting out of hand). The next day, my student handed me a hand-written apology. I almost cried because it was so genuine, and I'll always remember that as a teaching tool when I have my own children. The note still sits on my desk years later as a reminder to be a good human being.

Dear Julien, As a seasoned seque critic, I am commenting to give you my absolute highest appraisal on your brilliant performance in this podcast. I've seen a lot of seques in my day and this is by far the most beautiful one I have had the honour to witness. Let me begin with saying, I am already a big fan of yours. When I hear your seques I feel a sense of warmth, enjoyment - you are well known in the community of seques! But this one, wow...the execution is 10/10. Astounding. I felt the rush of adrenaline when you gracefully tied "process" to Farmers Dog. I was taken on a roller coaster of breathtaking emotions that I had never experienced in my career. I felt a tear of happiness roll down my cheek as I chuckled deeply. Thankyou Julien for this AMAZING seque, you have changed my life as a seasoned critic. God bless.
Seraphina Nettesheim or more relationship stories! Like cute dates they had or things that made them swoon at the start. Of course only if they’d want to share those stories.
I feel like making ur kid write an apology letter is actually a great way to make them think about their actions and how they effect people around them, and maybe even train them in having more compassion. Also they can work at their writing skills at the same time. I think if anything you should thank her.
I agree. It's way better than just getting sent to your room to stew in anger without having to think about what you did. I thought it was weird for them to suggest that Debbie was doing it for "a joke."
Don’t “make” your kid write an apology. Explain to them why their actions lead to it being a necessary activity. Even sit with them and help them brainstorm how things could have played out differently and how they can be better people in the future. Your kids don’t exist to be “made” to do things. They need to be taught, helped and molded into productive members of society.
also... stealing that parenting advice of writing apologies out. we’ve been looking for a new technique this past week to help with our 8yo who is giving us QUITE the time lately 🙄
I've scoured the internet for different consequences for 8 yr olds that misbehave, especially because hes in a stealing phase and even calling the police hasnt worked. Maybe forcing him to sit and think about it by actually writing out an apology will work. Maybe he'll retain and acknowledge what hes been doing and why it's wrong.
fun fact from a teacher's kid: cursive may not be important to write irl, but its been proven to be incredibly good at helping kids learn to spell since you are literally connecting the words together and to see what letters combine to make what sounds (especially good for inconsistent languages like english lol)
To further add to this, once you get the hang of it, writing in cursive is SO much faster than writing in print. Cursive helped with taking notes in college classes for me.

It's insane how fast things change, I was born in 2000 and had my childhood throughout the 2000s/10s and luckily nobody had phones to record embarrassing shit at school, so I'm probably the last generation of kids who grew up without stuff being permanently plastered all over the internet, whereas kids only a few years younger than me have to deal with it.
@Rachel Finney During primary school we weren't allowed to have phones, I barely new anyone there who owned one. In high school it was different tho, pretty much everyone had phones.
Sorry I just realised how my wording sounds, I was talking about young children having phones but it sounds like I could be talking about anyone between the ages of 5 to 18 lol
I was born in 94 and a lot of us had phones towards the end of primary school. The only thing is those phones didn’t have cameras lol but we all had phones throughout all of high school

Honestly, Jenna’s story from when she was 12 about getting a kitten was very well written. I think she should write a book now about her dogs and it would be a bestseller!
Jenna NEEDS to write a book ASAP! I loved your kitten story. I can't even imagine what she would come up with today. She could really be a great writer.
I love your selection of the word "superior"! And yes, I totaly agree :D I just feel that she is a great story teller. Most youtuber books are on the level of an adult coloring book anyways. I just had to point out that I'd love to read her writing. Who knows, she could prove all of them "youtuber authors" wrong and actually put out a great piece of literature :) Maybe some day.
I never thought of an apology as a punishment for a child. That’s a wonderful alternative to a physical punishment. Forcing your child to use their vocabulary & problem solving skills & work that part of their brain is amazing. I love this
I love this so much. I recently found some rules for life that I came up with when I was about 4. They are, in apparent order of importance: (1) No riding bikes in the road; (2) No shooting baby birds; (3) Do not kill the president; (4) You must take a bath; (5) You have to pick up your toys.

Guys, lemme just say that we enjoy these kind of podcasts so much, they're so wholesome and its incredibly sweet to see you two getting to know each other after years of being together. Keep it up, yall making us feel at home every monday!
My journals all full of my fever dreams, and my thoughts in the heat of my depression. I look back and I'm so proud that I've overcome so much hardship. I'm glad I didn't given in to those thoughts, I love my life now.
When I was a kid I wrote a "book" that was probably like 12 notebook pages long about a dog named Tucker who accidentally ran away from his home on the farm and got lost and a man took him and used him for dog fighting. Tucker wasn't aggressive but he looked tough because he was a pit bull so the guy bet money on him and Tucker almost died in the fight, he woke up bleeding on the floor and the man threw a beer bottle at him and swore at him because he lost money. I remember this scene vividly, it was written but I still see it in my head like I lived it and I saw everything through Tucker's eyes. He eventually escaped and I think he got back to his home. Then I wrote a sequel/remake in middle school for a creative writing class and I read part of it out loud to the class. I was so proud of this explicit, violent tale I'd wrote to show people the horrors of animal abuse and everyone else in the class hated being there and wrote like a 3 line poem and talked the rest of the class. I was not a cool kid lmao but I'm glad I cared about animals from a young age. I wish I still had these stories.
Ok, real talk - Jenna was a better storyteller as a child than I am now as a 26-year-old. That pet store story was amazing!! It sounded like you were reading an actual children’s book. Nicely done!
I burned my old emo diaries some days ago, which were too dramatic and embarrassing to exist. I don't even wanted to imagine someone finding and reading them 😨
Jenna's mom's approach to apology notes explains so much about Jenna's obvious accountability and authenticity. What a beautiful person
the debbie machine done did good with this one
I was thinking the same thing!!
If i ever have a child imma do this with them. Debbie.. U GOOD MOTHER.

The cat story is hilarious. I literally spat my food out laughing at it! Good job Jenna
Jenna, you look so snatched omg girl!!
So glad to see Jenna happy
The way Jenna looked at Julian at the during the intro song 🥰🥺 #goals
I burned my old emo diaries some days ago, which were too dramatic and embarrassing to exist. I don't even wanted to imagine someone finding and reading them 😨
I HAVENT EVEN WATCHED IT YET BUT I KNOW ITS GONNA BE GOOOOODD!
I will totally use the apology letter with my future kids. Thats a great mom move, look how amazing you turned out.
All the comments are saying this but DAMN mom and dad look good today 😍
At least once a month, I think about Julien's reaction to a child's poem being "that slapped".
