Well I have to say, I never doubted you for a minute. It looks awesome, as good as new if not better. It sounds nice and looks like it is in perfect intonation. Jerry once again you are the man, or should I say, the mandolin expert.

Great job, Jerry. One of the things I like most about your work is that you are fearless. You wade in where others fear to tread. I always get good ideas when I watch your videos.
I can give you an option for keeping glue joints from shifting. A few grains of fine, sharp sand sprinkled widely over the contact surface keeps stuff in place when parts are clamped. Takes only a little. I bought a bag of sandbox filler from Lowe’s about ten years ago. I mostly filled a pint jar with sand and used the rest in some potting mix. I’m confident that pint is a lifetime supply.
Thanks for this video series. I believe I’ll use this technique to graft the pegbox back onto an old Kay bass.
I like the way you think. I got a little sick to my stomach when you were lining up the peg head though (when it was upside down). I've been in that kind of situation many times and know that sometimes your mind is racing faster than your hands and logic can keep up. You remind me a lot of myself in many ways. I very much enjoy the songs you play during the "off camera" times, and would like to learn more about them. I can't thank you enough for your persistence and "perfectionism." I suffer from it also. Hang in there pal!

When their is a problem glue you, it’s a good technique to do a dry clamp to organise the clamp positions .The pins are good texhnique

I didn't catch part 2 ( I thought the notice was for part one, which I'd already viewed) until you mentioned it in your Jan 2 update. Glad you did remind us. What a problem! I still say this mandolin might have gone up in value as a collector's item -- as a Rosa Repair which comes with a video record of it's repair work? Just saying that the value of an object depends more upon its usage and tone than its looks, IMO If I were in sales, I'd use that as a selling point. ;)

Another excellent job! I just love your practical approach to everything. I also love how you do it right. If it's not right the first time, you don't just cover it over, you backtrack and do it right. The instrument is beautiful again and plays beautifully again. Keep on truckin.
The stainless rod is used yes as a trus rod but mostly as a strengthening tod ( to stop any bow ) the same way lots of acoustic makers now use carbon fibre rods either side of a straight trus rod to stop any bow whatsoever. And repairers of vintage instruments from the turn of the century now add carbon fibre stiffening rods to guitars that never had a trus rod. Good repair and result.

Jerry is about the only luthier that would tackle something like this .... there was one other one close to Caseville, but he passed away a few years back ..
I have a Kentucky that needs the same thing done to it .. its still all in one piece but its paper thin under the truss rod and you can't adjust it or it'd snap for sure .... so if it ever comes to having to adjust it ..that'll be when I'll tackle that ..
Wisdom to do it in less and less violent increments.

Boy! That mandolin surely did produce a GREAT TONE, when Jeremy went to town, on "Roanoke!!" WOW!!!
I must tell you, that I didn't recognize Jeremy until you introduced him!! I guess I didn't realize how much time has gone by, since I first saw photos of he and his brothers, & their Dad, on the cover, & within the "J-Card" of their 2001 CD release: "Follow Me."
I can still remember the evening, & situation, in which I heard the Chapman's music for the first time.
I was living in West Virginia's eastern panhandle at the time, which many people refer to as the "Tri-State" area, meaning the WV; MD; & Pennsylvania Tri-State area.
Anyway right before "Follow Me" was released, I'd discovered a great, Sunday evening, Bluegrass radio show, on an FM station, out of Cumberland, MD; called: "The Jack Duke Show."
I could only pick that station up, on the radio of the mini-van I owned at the time, I couldn't pull it in at all on my home stereo.
So as a result, I would go and sit in my van on Sunday evenings, & listen to Jack, and the great selection of music that he played.
Anyway, one Sunday evening in the Summer of 2001, Jack, (without announcing it first), played the lead off cut from the Chapman's CD - "Follow Me" which is entitled: "Losing Again."
Man! I was ABSOLUTELY BOWLED OVER by the Chapman's singing & instrumental work, & by the melody & bluesy style of that song itself!! Plus, the fact that Russell Moore sung tenor harmony with 'em on the choruses, wasn't bad either!!! 😊
Afterward, Jack told who the artists were, & that it was their brand new release. I had never heard of the Chapmans before that time, but definitely found myself wanting to HEAR MORE OF THEM, after that night!!
I don't think it was any longer than a week later, that I drove to one of my favorite stores in Hagerstown, MD; ("Border's Books & Music"), and bought me a copy of that CD!! 🙂
Unfortunately I lost that CD, along with many others, which were in a CD Wallet, that was among lots of other belongings in a storage unit which a housemate of my GF & I, caused us to lose, back in 2016!
Thankfully though, that CD of the Chapmans is here on UA-cam, where I just went and listened to it, a few moments ago!!

I think Larivee and other fine instrument makers should adopt the contouring pattern you used for the back of the nut end of the neck. It looks great and adds much stability to the design.

I use finish nails, absent their heads, as drill bits. And I too suffer from hand dexterity, so for close sensitive work I use hand stitched rasps to remove the majority of the wood. I truly enjoy your videos! Best wishes.

Stew mac makes a "Robo-Sander Flush Trim Sander" that would be perfect for you sanding the head stock. It has a phenolic bearing that would ride on the finished part of the head and would have allowed you to sand to the edge of the head without worrying about sanding in to the side of the head that is already finished and saved you about 1/2 hour. . It is pretty inexpensive if that can be said of anything that Stew mac sells. It would have been perfect for sanding the edge the head.
That neck was soooo bad that you had to make a new word to describe how bad is was! LOL. Great job Jerry.

On Dremels, arthritis ect., my hands are pretty borked as well, been years, and as somebody who worked on very small pieces for a long time one of the best investments I made was for a Fordom like model Dremel with a long flex-shaft and the 'pencil' hand piece for light/fine work, they do tend to wear out fairly quickly if over pressured and I have mine with a quick release which adds a bit of weight but man it gave my hands relief. Just a thought 'r two fer you :)
I was going to suggest using a farrier's rasp, on that much
maple, but now, I see it looks like that is what you are using.

49:25 At a metal fabrication shop I used to add a bevel to aluminum parts using an upside down router. It works really great. Im guessing it would probably would work just as well for wood to. Awesome video as always!!

??? Does the glue on the strip of wood over the truss rod contact the truss rod itself?
I was wondering why you didn't use 2 of the holes for the tuners with a tight(ish) dowel? That way there is no metal left behind that could cause future repair issues.

Really like the big volute. Don’t recall if the original has one, but they definitely add strength and a bit of pizzazz.

Canopy glue. Can be found in hobby stores and online. Used on the plastic canopies of RC airplanes, and a whole lot of uses.

it was a decent repair but there are many local luthiers funny they didn't just use someone local. They play well but not very social. lack people skills. This guys done some much better work

As always great videos. But I think, are they necessary to glue the piece of wood you put in the bottom of the trusrod, what would happen if you don't glue it?
