Guardian Culture so is this some sort of uk government sponsored show to tell your population why Brexit and all the consequences because of it are the right choice.... honestly who is paying for it, who hs writing the script? I’d like to know guardian! This is purely an opinionated series and people will make it what they think it means. I’m not sure if this will be helpful.
@@worldpeace1822 The series explores both sides of the story.... Imagine that. :-/
Not to be disrespectful but she´s a little melodramatic, couldnt watch for more than a third.
Course she is
......she's french ;)
That's the point it's filmed and directed, that's why it's exaggerated.
She sounds like she smokes 3 cigarette packs a day
@@Jellykrop JUST the packs and not the contents.
@D. S. I'm referring to the cigarette packets, the cartons that hold cigarettes
A bit rich of the Guardian to publicize this when it was against the Brexit referendum.
How so?
IMelkor42 the Guardián stands behind remainers and didn’t agree with the brexit referendum while here they are publicizing how a French referendum was ignored.
@@jak_k There´s a difference between Remoaners Brexiteers and discontent French people.
In 2016 Britain's referendum was ignored , especially by the Guardian !
And then they've to pay for the cause with humiliation now! We've done it 🇬🇧♥️🇬🇧
The piece could be interesting, but the actor is definitely overacting and is quite a bit hammy to be honest. Dommage.
At least she is hottttttttt 😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍
It's still interesting despite the acting.
Whats dommage?
@@arrakis7132 It's French for 'horror'.
@Prakash Gurung You don't think she's hot? Really? Well who do you think is hot?
Last time Europe was a bunch of independent countries they were fighting each other and killing millions in a most inhumane way imaginable, and for no darn reason.
Count your blessings. EU is definitely not a final product, it's a project in development. Many things have to be done, but you have peace and stability, and prosperity for most people. Don't swap it for the situation where countries start gearing up to start killing each other's citizens, just because they have otherwise solvable disagreements.
You think war is an inevitability if the EU is disbanded? Why?
@@treacherousjslither6920
Because that's what European history always has been.
@@Phoenix_cataclysm_in_2040 True. But this is a bad thing isn't it? Or do you actually want a return to constant warfare?
@@treacherousjslither6920
Eh? I am pro-EU.
@@Phoenix_cataclysm_in_2040 Whoops I got mixed up
In the last few years the Guardian has discussed and entertained and even endorsed - through the writings of some of his commentators - the possibility of revoking the results of the Brexit referendum, though.
You say that as though it would be a bad thing. When it became clear that there was no clear plan forward and no one way forward with Brexit, there should have been a second referendum. That was common sense. Not to mention that the 2016 referendum was advisory, but for some reason was taken as binding. That is preposterous to begin with.
I think revoking Brexit on the basis of a second referendum in which the deal was voted on (with the possibility of 'No Deal' in a 3 way vote) wouldn't be undemocratic.
However, with the situation in France it did appear just to be ignoring the will of the people. What happened in France would be what would've happened here if Lib Dems got a majority.
Yeah, because the way a Democracy works is once something passes we shut up about it and never discuss it again, yeah? I mean, by that logic, the Brexit referendum was simply ignoring the results of the original referendum to enter the EU - that passed - and the original referendum to Leave - which failed.
@@TechTehScience Very true, very well put.
@@s.v.berezin1562 it was but then David Cameron said the result would be implemented and no there shouldn't have been a second referendum until the first one was implemented at the very least
This is weird.
The Guardian is showing a video about how the EU tramples democracy.
It’s a bit late but at least it’s accurate.
Billy Bob Propositions may be valid, no matter what their origin is.
@Billy Bob "at least it’s accurate." - In what way?
nicadi2005 the EU constitution was rejected by the few countries that were allowed to vote on it.
Then the EU simply re packed it as the Lisbon treaty and passed it thus trampling democracy.
Billy Bob Exactly right, Billy Bob. Thank you.
@@davidrobertsemail Incorrect. It was the French national government that chose to ignore the referendum and push on with the new constitution. It was the same with all the other countries that voted to reject EU propositions. Their national governments ignored their people. The EU has no power to enforce these treaties without the consent of the national government. So in blaming the EU you are letting the national governments off the hook.
Is not important how you vote, important is who is counting !
"performed by" if this is what this series is about, no thanks.
What the hell is this? I didn't understood anything!
Kinda rubbish really
Well it is right in a sense. Our vote does become useless plenty of times. Not going to vote even by a great percent does not give a better result either. Before i vote i usually find that none of the choices before me satisfy or represent me,/my rights/my views/my visions. It's life and all you can do is take responsibility and choose the lesser evil in your mind. Not voting gives more power to those who do. Infurating! Vote even if it is one raindrop. It is your choise where it lands!
Put a horizontal black bar at the bottom of the video and place the text over it: it’s difficult to read white text against a bright background.
This is the toned down version
First time I voted in presidential elections my guy got less than 0.1% of votes. That was the last time I voted.
I think the series is a great idea as there is still too much distance between EU operations and the public's perception (mine included) of its activities. That said, why the smoking and melodramatic tone?? I found it a bit hard to watch the whole thing. That's a pity because I'm French and interested in hearing more about those events
2:21 She's right people did die for your right to vote, quite a lot of the British. If you want to know their names you could visit one of the many cemeteries that are all over your country, where they are buried.
Dave ..they died because they had no choice and those that did choose died for Queen and country.
Europe ? Blimey, is that still a thing ?
Dear all, democracy is important. However I want to keep in mind two things. First, the people are not always right. Have you ever come across to some decision to be made collegially and believed the majority really voted for the wrong and evident decision? That is because the majority is NOT ALWAYS RIGHT. Secondly, I believe the EU as a federation should not be questioned. What should be questioned is the organization we want to give to the EU. In conclusion, if in any given referendum the peole votes no to be part of the EU either said people gets out of the EU or its will is not taken into account. For the sake of the unity of the continent, I prefer the latter even though it would stretch thin the fabric of our own society and politics. However my thought is still evolving, so who knows.
"the people are not always right" and which right does the elite have to define what is and not right? Isnt democracy meant by the people for the people??
@@sebas8225 as for the "right the elite has" that you mentioned, I can say that the "elite" (and you have to define what is elite) has no formal right to decide for the people. We want a system in which every person counts, right? But we're not still there, and honestly don't know if we'll ever be able to get there. If a person has enough resources to make a change, I say they have a moral duty to do so. Duty not right. Duty to make sure the world is left, at the end of their lives, better than it used to be.
Wow. I didn't know about this
Quand la France redeviendra-t-elle une démocratie ?
Has The Guardian begun the think?
since the beginning of times Commerce has brought unparalleled prosperity and EU was essentially that .An institution built for mutual benefit that was slowly built upon to reach the EU that it is today. Economic liberalism has been a corner stone of every prosperous country. She dismisses the complexity of the issue but that is exactly why we have deliberative representative democracy, because no one has the time to study it in such a detail nor the knowledge to understand it's implications. If you fail to exercise your political rights one day you face it's consequences until then feel free to pretend to be a revolutionary. The woman's mother seems like a wise woman
Now look where it's brought the world. Division and tribalism. Look at the UK, look at the US.
mon tue I’m not so sure I’d call this necessarily economic liberalism ... depending on who you ask you’ll get another definition of it. For example the US has a very liberal stand on economics when it comes to regulatory rules through the state. Some will say that this is the way and some will say it isn’t.
Is this why the Guardian is begging for money? To make fantastic master pieces like this? Lol.
😂😂😂😂 Your comment is just uuzing that douchy British accent 🤣🤣🤣

@@ZenosOsgorma But that's not about Europe, that's our economic model, and its happening worldwide, Bruxelles or not. Even third world countries are experiencing drastic changes in their economic and demographic model, without passing through a development phase like it was for nort-west europe and north america
