    im so jealous of all the people who had the chance to start figure skating at a very young age. where i grew up there's no ice rinks anywhere nearby and the weather is so horribly unstable that the lakes never freeze enough :/ luckily we're moving to an area with a sh*t ton of ice rinks tho :D

      sigh i feel you, i live in a country where figure skating isn't a very known sport and the only rink in the entire country is very far away and very expensive, but figure skating is the only thing i'd rather do for the rest of my life :c

    the yoi fandom is becoming like ARMYs like I understand that you all want to become skaters and ship victuri (of course who doesn't) but that doesn't mean you have to comment on every single video that has the word ice in it saying that "only yuri on ice brought me here!!1!!!" or "victuri for lifeu!!!" pls chill

      Saher Ahmad I remember when the figure skating community was pretty small, but now, most videos I see are polluted by Yuri on Ice fangirls. Don't get me wrong, I'm glad that more people want to figure skate now and I love YOI, but the comments like "vICTURI OMG" are a bit annoying. Side note, I have been noticing that the ARMY's have been acting a bit more respectful meeting each other on non-bts videos.

    • @RileyKohler
      @RileyKohler 7 років тому +22

      Saher Ahmad YES oh my god!!! I try not to complain, but as someone who's been in the figure skating fandom for years, yoi fans' behavior is really pissing me off?? Don't get me wrong, I loved the anime, but seeing comments full of it on actual skating videos? It's just disrespectful to a beautiful traditional sport. And now they've done it to figure skating UA-camrs, who are going to look at the comments and think that they didn't help any actual skaters, because they're only seeing these anime fans with no/little interest in the actual sport! Honestly, this is worse than the ARMYs.

    Lol why are a lot of you saying it's too late to start skating? It's never too late to start any physically demanding activities like this unless you have fragile bones. I guess it's understandable to think it's too late if you had serious injuries that needed to be treated through surgery but I haven't seen anyone complain about that yet.

    • @doeadeer6058
      @doeadeer6058 7 років тому

      Caterina Hunts I've suffered from ME for a year so my muscles are really stiff and weak, still suffering from it and I really want to learn to scare but I can't and it's so frustrating, I'm 15 so I always feel like if I start next year (at the earliest) it will be too late especially considering my muscles are stiff and weak, do you think I'd still be able to do it when I get better?

    • @thelazyhuntress
      @thelazyhuntress 7 років тому +9

      +I Fell Into Wonderland xx Of course you can start, it's not too late. You can even start at a later time as I've heard some people started when they were 22.
      I have tore my meniscus when I was 14 and after surgery, I was still in too much pain to go back to doing Taekwondo because I never did what I was supposed to do during my healing process so I practically stopped any physical activities for years. As you could imagine, my muscles were no longer strong like they used to be, I could barely run 10 ft without running out of breath but, after years of doing nothing, I finally decided I missed playing sports and I began working out again to build up my muscles.
      I guess to some people, working out is pretty boring (I am one of those people) but there are other ways you can build your muscles besides weight lifting and all while having fun. For me, it was through ice skating and indoor rock climbing that helped me build my strength again. It was embarrassing at first but I had fun with it and improved over time. It wasn't a process that gave instant results but it helped me.
      You'll just have to find your own way to help you build yourself up, even if that only way is through ice skating or rollerblading, it's definitely worth it.

      Caterina Hunts Exactly. I am 15 years old, older than when most skaters start out, and I just recently began figure skating because of a spark of inspiration. It's been 3 months and after private and group lessons, Ive learned so much and found something I can enjoy sincerely. I actually began figure skating when i was 4 years old, but only continued for about a year. Back then, all i learned was swizzles and simple stroking. 11 years later, i'd forgotten everything and had to relearn it all again. Though that disappointed me quite a lot, 3 months later I have learned all single jumps, am just starting to master my sit spin, and starting to prepare for the axel. As long as you have the passion, the effort, and the mental strength, there is no limit to age if you want to start figure skating.

      I feel like ballet and ice skating are pretty similar... When I was little I wanted to do ballet, but never did. I've always did a simple ice skate, but I've never done actual figure skating but I hope to take classes. I still have to learn how to quickly stop as well. I have been in love with the beauty of both for a while now, and I've asked my parents if I could start taking classes, and they said that I'd probably be able to.

    I'd love to start figure skating. But one, I'm sixteen yees old, and two, here in Ireland, there is absolutely no tradition of any ice sport at all. There is one 'figure skating' club in the country, and it's three hours away from my county. And I say 'figure skating', because they don't actually do it on ice. It's on in-line skates. I'm not joking, it's pretty sad lmao.

      Fucking Tóbí Being sixteen won't stop you! Being older actually might help
      you. At my rink, the older beginning skaters were actually skipped up one or two levels without testing, because the first day they stepped on the ice they already nailed the moves for their level. As for the 'Figure Skating' club, maybe there is a small rink that you don't know about?

My rink doesn't offer figure skating classes or has a club. I was thinking of asking my dad if I can sign up for a private figure skating class next year in a rink an hour and a half away. But im still not sure because I would only be able to go once a week if I did.

    Also (I forgot the number) I usually keep a binder and have the moves for the next moves and the field in doing and I have program notes and then I have a checklist to make sure I get it together and then I have a brief description and things to help me remember to keep my leg straight or my foot pointed etc.

    Can you hear my heartbeat?
    Tired of feeling never enough
    I close my eyes and tell myself that my dreams will come true
    There’ll be no more darkness
    when you believe in yourself you are unstoppable
    Where your destiny lies, dancing on the blades,
    you set my heart on fire
    Don’t stop us now, the moment of truth
    We were born to make history
    We’ll make it happen, we’ll turn it around
    Yes, we were born to make history
    Can you hear my heartbeat?
    I’ve got a feeling it’s never too late
    I close my eyes and see myself how my dreams will come true
    There’ll be no more darkness
    when you believe in yourself you are unstoppable
    Where your destiny lies, dancing on the blades,
    you set my heart on fire
    Don’t stop us now, the moment of truth

    We’ll make it happen, we’ll turn it around

    I simply skate for recreation (as I have since I was a kid, skating and rollerblading), I like the feel of 'flying' as it were, but can't do any jumps or spins yet, but many of these hacks are just good for life! I'm totally using the lipstick method and the perfume method from now on. I'm also a cosplayer (costumer,) so the hair-threading is a technique I will employ the next time I have an outfit that requires a wig. I'm so DONE with 5 million bobby pins to keep up my waist-length hair. Thank you. :)

    When I was 8 I started doing rhythmic gymnastics (the oldest age you could join). I quit at the age of 10-11 (I don't quite remember). In that short time, I managed to win 3 gold medals, and one silver. I wanted to continue, but my parents couldn't pay anymore, so I had to quit ($300 per month). I am now 14 and can't even do a split anymore. My mom asked me if I want to do gymnastics again, or a new sport when they have the money. I thought of doing swimming, but now I thought I could try figure skating. But then figure skating is the most expensive sport, and I don't know if I'll be able to qualify for competitions at such an old age. Even if I join, I would always feel embarrassed because people younger than me would be better at skating, while skaters my age are going to the nationals. I fear I would never be able to catch up. Not to mention, I don't even have good skates ( I only have hockey skates that don't fit me anymore). School would get hard, as I would be missing a bit due to competition schedules. That's the deal with any sport.
    Should I try joining when my parents have the money?

    I wish I could do figure skating, I was a gymnast for the longest time. But I quit gymnastics due to personal health issues and family issues. But I always have wanted to do figure skating I used to go to the rink next to my gym with my mom all the time and watch the figure skaters. But the rink later on closed and the closet rink is an hour or hour and half away.

      Shelly Fairbanks IT'S NEVER TOO LATE TO START! However, if you want to get into jumps it will be very hard. The older you get, the harder it is to jump.
