That dress is gorgeous!!! You did a beautiful job and it looked beautiful on you!
Wow, it turned out so beautiful! 😍 I want to start making my own skating dresses too and this was the first tutorial I watched. Thank you for making it so in depth!
Hi. I'm just starting my journey with sewing skating dresses. This was very helpful. I do have 2 suggestions for you in regards to sewing a narrow hem. 1) Sew a line of stitches around the bottom of the skirt approximately 1/4 inch away from raw edge. Then use this stitch line as a guide for folding over the fabric as you sew the hem. 2) The second method is by using a Ban-Roll interfacing. If you've never used it, you should learn. It's fabulous: not only on lycra but also on chiffon, to get a beautiful, even narrow hem on a skate skirt or anything on which a narrow hem is needed. I watched 'Downtown Tailoring' on UA-cam to learn how to do it.
Great suggestions! Thank-you!!
Thank you! This is the best figure skating dress video I’ve seen. Your tips have helped me immensely. Wish I’d seen it years ago, unfortunately I’m currently making my granddaughters final dress for her gold test. Sad when you figure skaters grow up. You should do one on how to adapt a skating dress pattern from separate pants to a body suit and skirt.
ooooh this is super helpful! Im a circus artist and ive been really struggling with making costumes for my aerial silk routines (cuz u like cant have anything that could get stuck) and this rlly helped!
Wait... that was me!! Thank you!!
Yes! Thanks for the idea!
I’m really wanting to learn to make dresses and skate costumes for my daughter thank you for these great beginner videos!
Aww! Glad to help:D
I love this video m starting to make my own but I’m wondering what type of thread you use for sewing with Lycra thanks x
This is very helpful! I've just started sewing because I need to start sewing my own skating dresses and besides taking sewing lessons, I had no idea where to start! Beautiful dress!
Amazing job, you’re so talented at sewing! The most I manage is stoning my own dresses lol, love doing it though.
Thanks! Hahah yes, it's the best part!!
could you please post a video explaining how to sew the skirt to the leotard in details? Thanks in advance.
This girl is so talented!
I think that figure skaters look like superheroes!
I love your videos. You have so much knowledge and your ideas are amazing. Keep going!
Thank-you so much!!
You are so talented! Thank you for making this easy to understand ♥️🙏🏻♥️
This was so great I love your videos so much!
Thank-you!❤️
Wowsers! and Totally down to earth!!! I am making the first skating dress ever for the first time for a client! I was given a pattern - it turned out to be an adult pattern for a child!!! I have patterns from when I made dance costumes for children, so I know I can adapt one to fit!! I feel sorry for whoever got the child pattern thinking it is an adult pattern!!!
So pretty! Also, yay for being a leftie! Do you also often add a lining to your dresses?
I stone a lot and the tape tip is much appreciated!
I can't wait to try this!!
Do you make skating dresses for any skaters? If so, how much do you charge?
You are so cute, you go girl
Do you have a pattern for this?
Love this dress, u want to make another?
did you use the same skirt pattern as the dress pattern? If not what skirt pattern did you use?
also how did you actually sew on the skirt to the leotard, it was kinda hard to see what you did x)
Hello! Your are so amazing at sewing these beautiful skate dresses! I’ve been wanting to make a figure skating dress for 5 years now but never felt confident to start sewing it. I would love to get your advice on my design and how to go about sewing it. Do you have an email by chance?
Warmly,
Allie
Which Basic pattern do you use?🤎
Hi, do you think it's good idea to use tape to make a pattern (I want to make my own design), to make sure the dress will fits me?
Yeah!! I used tape to make a pattern in my first skating dress video!
Do you ever line your skate dresses? Just wondering in case I want to make some dresses in the future.
I do sometimes!
Where do you buy your spandex and mesh fabric? I can’t find it anywhere at my local fabric stores
There's usually a section in large fabric stores! Not so much in smaller stores.. You'll probably have to look online!
where did you get your patterns for your dress? i haven’t been able to find any
I got them at my local fabric store but you can find them online if you google jalie figure skating dress pattern!
