Successful shift from Coffee to Hass Avocado farming

- Anne Wangechi, A Horticulture Farmer narrates what made her shift from Coffee farming to Avocado.
Unlike coffee trees, Anne said, avocado trees require little maintenance, and their fruit is a good earner.
Farmers in Kenya are switching coffee and tea for avocados in a bid to profit from increasing European demand.
Fact: Hass avocado is mainly cultivated by both small scale and large scale farmers in Kenya.
Kenya produces an estimate of 115,000 metric tonnes of avocado per year. 70% of this is grown by small-scale farmers.

In usa a can of average coffee grounds at 12 oz is 10 usd or less for average quality. Hass avocado 50 cents to 2 usd per fruit in store depending on how abundant the crop was. Specialized varieties of avocado can sometimes be 3 usd each up to even 5 usd each fruit but that is rare. Most people don't like to spend more than 2usd per fruit in store.
very inspiring indeed
Hass avocado the best quality they are popular .

They sell hass for 10 dollars in US on retail about KES 1000 per fruit.
Middle man makes KES 994
Hass is not 10usd per fruit. It averages 50 cents to 2usd per fruit in the market depending how abundant the season is. If many avocado available then price is cheap. If off season and less avocado available its usually 2usd or sometimes 1usd
Where in 🇺🇸 has avocado $10 selling??
Is Avocado in Kenya that cheap Kshs 11/Piece? That means it's means she's not making money!
But in one acre someone can harvest up to 2000pcs per acre...
Wht do you think
Well it’s all relative. I thought it would be more like 50kshs
@@TheCvm229 One tree produces 300 fruits in a season. Avocados can fruit twice a year once mature...
