    cmon Spinelli, you criticize the styling as if they should do what, round it off to look like your German girls? I like that they have a style of their own. I like the sharp lines.

      +/DRIVE "bit overstyled" huh? Being flashy and a bit overdone is one of the reasons people buy Cadillac in the first place. You also said "original gangsta" in reference to the original CTS-V. The only Cadillac's that were "original gangstas" were Fleetwood's and Eldorado's.

      +leloodallasmultipass There is no "breaking in" period on cars now. There hasn't been for quite some time.

    • @leloodallasmultipass
      @leloodallasmultipass 8 років тому +4

      buddenbo That's what some people say. But not all. The fact is, the materials do need to properly seat themselves. There will always be variations in the fit and so the parts need to wear in. Tool markings from cnc work, flashing from castings, improperly selected, slightly mismatched pistons (or any other part), there are tons of potential problems that would benefit from a gentler break in period.

    • @Dgannt

      +Chris Carranza It would be nice with some competition. Problem is Cadillac has been saying that for 4 decades without delivering. That engine is from Z06 which has a lot of overheating problems not solved yet. That gearbox, be it GM's finest, well, just listen to it shifting. Engine size 6,2L = very high tax in most countries making this car very expensive. Interior and electronics as the case been so far behind Germans. This are luxury performance sedans and cost a lot. As soon as people sit in a German the Cadillac has lost. It's that simple and been the case so far. Hence why Cadillacs are sold with big rebates. But they get closer with every generation.

    Welcome to the club, America. I'm an Australian. We've been making cars for this kind of market segment since the 1960s. So have the Germans & the Poms.

      +Kneedragon1962 Yes! We owe many, many thanks to you guys for all the GM rear-drive stuff. Too bad Ford never did the same and brought the Falcon XR8 over. Cheers.

    • @Kneedragon1962
      @Kneedragon1962 9 років тому

      *****
      Yeah, actually it has. Look up the Mercedes Grosser. Look up the early Jaguars. Then from Australia, look up the Ford Falcon GTHO. From the late '60s into the early '70s, while America was making 2 door muscle cars, the phase 2 & phase 3 GTHOs were the fastest 4 door car made in the world. Then we had the Muscle Car scare, and it wasn't until some time in the mid '90s that we made another car as potent as the phase 3. In 1973 you could buy a stock phase 3 'Ho, for $5,200 AU, which was about double what a cooking model cost, which was good for about 165 ~ 170 mph. For about 10 times that money, you could buy a Masarati or Ferrari which had more or less the same performance. American cars with about the same performance existed, but you could not buy them here. And none of the fast ones had 4 doors.

    • @Kneedragon1962
      @Kneedragon1962 9 років тому

      *****
      Not sure, I don't live there. The Yanks are a bit famous for making engines. Mostly those have gone in 2 door cars but some have gone in 4 doors. Straight line performance, that's nothing new. Building one that handles is a bit new.
      Muscle cars or sports sedans, the old Falcons, yes. A bit of both I think... Like the Brock Commodores in the '80s, they were a fast sedan.

    • @Kneedragon1962
      @Kneedragon1962 9 років тому

      +Kneedragon1962 ... continued... The GTHO Falcons had a slightly warmed 351 Cleveland. The trick bit was the cam. But they also had a chin spoiler and a small rear wing. Not real sure about the wing spoiler, but the little chin spoiler really worked. And they had stiffer spring rates, better dampers, and the built-in understeer that nearly all cars of that era had, wasn't there. They sat quite flat and would point where you told them to. The handling wasn't exactly good, but the basic balance was about right. Most cars of that time understeered like a snow plough. Mind you, to use that performance, you did have to know how to drive. They weren't the hardest car to drive but they weren't the easiest either. Little British cars of that time like the Austin 7, had no performance but they had handling. Escorts from the '70s, even stock standard, were great fun to drive. At least until they broke down... They didn't have any power, but you could toss them sideways like a toy.

      Actually most channels and a bunch of articles you read will say the exact same thing likely have same video or pictures because at these press events they are provided with written articles by the manufacture stock photos and video to use. These press events a journalist is lucky to get 3-5laps. You read enough articles they all say the same exact thing. This is journalism get use to it. It is always and advertisement. Cadillac wouldn't invite a journalist if they aren't going to give them press.

    The Caddy is impressive, but his intro was misleading because in the first 10 seconds of this video, he speaks of a "200 mph Cadillac". The most interesting comparison with foreign cars with large displacement "V" shaped engines is our sustained use of a single, block mounted camshaft versus overhead cams. In the late 1980's, the Corvette ZR-1 had an aluminum 32 valve, double overhead cam V-8. But it was soon discontinued because the horsepower gains were modest relative to the added weight, higher center of gravity and increased complexity. Even now after more than 25 years, this still remains the case.

    I'm glad that Cadillac has finally built a car that can match the Germans. Now if it only could sell more than just in the US market, and start to be a global hit as BMW, it would be great. Cadillac has said this for over 4 decades but I'm hoping this time it's true. I hope it doesn't have the same overheating problems as Corvette Z06.

  • @kbowiing58
    @kbowiing58 7 років тому

    +Freddie B! This is WHY there isn't a comparison! They know it will take the German cars in it's class. They are giving them time to upgrade the E63 AMG and M5 BMW! So what will happen is they will test a 2016 CTS-V against their 2017/18 models. I have driven both the ATS-V & CTS-V. Both cars are awesome! I wanted the ATS-V at first but I just drove the CTS-V last week and it's what I am going with! I currently own a 09-Pontiac G8. Can you say, Upgrade!

    Although BMW and Mercedes have pedigree, I chose to purchase a 2013 CTS-V sedan. She’s triple black diamond tricoat with matching wheels, recaro seats and red brembo calipers. Looks better than any German comparable. Oil change $80, labor on repairs, $150-180/hr.
    You can purchase perceived status or you can purchase performance.
    I prefer performance over status. The shallow status pool, well it’s just shallow.

    I mean come on, that's what made the old CTSV stand apart so much as an actual performance/sports car Cadillac. You were literally in a stick shift corvette with a Cadillac body on top. What is this damned ridculous move away from stick shift transmissions? It's literally what makes driving a fast car fun.

    Mike, I do like the opening lines as you step in front of the ctsv ready and proud with your driving shoes but, unfortunately you were incorrect because even if a Cadillac were to free fall off a cliff, it would eventually, given enough time, reach terminal velocity which is around 127 mph. So, to correct your statement, the only way to previously have taken a Cadillac 200 mph, one would have had to buy a caddy badge and put it on something else or highly modify the car. Have a great day!

      uhhhh chevy? Ever head of the corvette? It kills ferraris and has been for a long time. Ever heard of the Ford GT? It did the same in it's day and it did it with nearly 100hp less than the ZR1. Ever heard of the Dodge Viper? Ever head of the GMC Syclone or Typhoon? Both extremely fast vehicles that would smoke the majority of cars costing 5 times as much.
      You don't get the point because you don't know shit about cars. Don't take that up the ass but you're the one making it seem like you're opinion matters when you're opinion is basically from someone who probably knows more about pokemon cards than they do cars.
      Lastly BMW, Mercedes, Ferrari and Porsche all have cars that cost more than the CTS-V WAGON and aren't as fast ON A TRACK!!!
      YOU need to educate yourself before sharing such stupid logic. Not hating you or starting shit here (even though it may feel like I am). But Domestic cars are king. Only idiots buy shit they can't drive and can't enjoy because they can't afford to replace the stuff that breaks on the car.
      Also if you're a hondafag look into the focus SVT, the Cavalier z24 SC, the focus ST, fiesta ST, and even the 1.0 liter ecoboost fiesta. All destroy everything japanese out there with the exception of the MS3 which I think everyone loves for it's shear unapologetic brutality in the power it creates.
      Also look past all the bullshit morons who think nissan makes good motors and check out the LS3, LS2, LS1, LT2, LS6, AND LS7 motors. All weigh within 80lbs of their japanese 4 banger counterparts and have more than twice the displacement and can come factory with well over 250% the power and even more importanly nonchalantly deliver the torque numbers Japanese cars have to be heavily modified to achieve. For reference, a 1000hp honda will only have 600lb-ft of torque. That's a camshaft and a tune on an ls7.
      If you think the GTR is king. Nissan has to lease ford engine technologies to make their cylinders strong enough to handle the kind of boost and compression that motor sees. Without ford the GTR wouldn't exist.
      Lastly GM is leasing it's shock technologies to Ferrari...it's that damn good.
      SO....with all of that said I'm sure you're just all butthurt now but you said the idiotic statement that "cadillac is the only US domestic car brand that I respect in modern times"....It's SOLELY because you know JACK SHIT about cars. Be pissed at my delivery if you want. But don't be ignorant anymore. You sound like one of those morons who think 240sx's are the best cars on the planet even though they cost like 900 bucks. Same goes for BMW...you can get one for 900 bucks on Craigslist all day long. But try to get a 1980's Trans Am or Z28 or Fox Body mustang. You're looking at 1800 to start. The 900 dollar cars have no motor or transmission or interior.

      I'm a pre 1990's American Muscle (with an exception for the new gt350 👏🏽👍🏽) and German Muscle fan.
      All that you did was talk shit and make assumptions. If you really knew about what you were talking about you would've done it in 1/8 of the long ass bullshit list that you've just written.
      Who cares about all that streetwise unusable horsepower when you have a well balanced out vehicle that excels in all fields. Germany is kicking our asses right now in those aspects (minus their prices).
      With your lack of valid/pertanent info I believe it's you who "doesn't know shit about cars". I've been around cars since I was 2 weeks old.
      Get your qualifications up.

    • @JordanReedYT
      @JordanReedYT 8 років тому

      nezerac
      1). There you go assuming again. I never said that any domestic cars past the years that I liked were slow, I said I wasn't a fan because I grew up in the 90's so I know more about cars from then until now a lot more than the old school. I like all of the old cars that I'm lost about rather than something that I already know of. Grandparents put me onto car at early (2 weeks, I have pictures)
      2). No I don't mean balanced as in weight distribution, I mean balance as in a nice four door sedan with a nice durable interior, adequate room, reasonable price/maintenance cost, amazing exterior styling, and that I can still fool around in at 5:00 a.m on an empty highway (i.e a E-Class 550 coupe, CTS-V, Audi RS models, or a nice compact wagon).
      3). I didn't read all of all what you said about cars and shit because it was late and you love to type full speeches for every reply.
      4). You have a '88 Escort that can beat me, I doubt it. I have a list of cars to pull on you with
      ('67 Buick Skylark, Buick GNX, 87 mustang, and a '97 Plymouth Prowler) all of which would make your statement less accurate.
      5). Because you're most likely way older than me and into cars you probably know more cars than me but I at least know as much as you do. Your a Mechanical engineer; I took a year off from college and still was excepted into George W. Woodruff at GA Tech ( # 2 in the country and 7th internationally), plus I freelance consult on SEM/OEM part upgrades and on how car owners can better their car on the street and track. I have multiple brand that back and all me to aid in building their track stars (Mega-Line racing at Pikes Peak Coming SOON)
      Stop getting butt-hurt cuz it's just an opinion.

    • @nezerac
      @nezerac 8 років тому

      Jordan Reed
      1) two weeks is bullshit. Stop saying it you only make yourself look stupid every time you say it. Be a man and admit that you can't comprehend anything at two weeks that'll help you fix a car. Also...I MYSELF grew up in the 90's and I can identify with loving 80's and 90's cars. In 1st grade the 91 mustang Gt had just come out...it was phenomenal! I've never seen a mid 90's domestic be less attractive than any import counterpart in the USDM. If you go anywhere else in the world Ford and GM had other models to compete internationally. Look up the Escort RS Cosworth.
      2)You're idea of "balance" is still laughable. Get in a FWD 247hp buick regal GS. No it's not shockingly beautiful, no it's not a lightning bolt. But that car fits exactly what you're describing. Durable interior, good power, good handling (especially if you can get your hands on a olympic edition) and the ability to thrash a lot of cars that cost quite a bit more than it does. Your problem is you don't know because you're too busy blowing german cock. You're not DRIVING these cars and formulating an opinion based from that. You're just spewing nonsense. Before you say "how can a cts-v be nonsense?" ask yourself...."do I REALLY need 400+ hp to have fun?"...the resounding answer is NO! You DON'T need that kind of power to have fun.
      One thing I will agree with is wagons...because WAGONS!
      3) Ya...it's because I have something called an attention to detail and INTELLECT! That intellect means I can't just paint something black and white...I have to explain it to you logically so you can grow and not be a sock puppet anymore.
      4)You don't have a Buick GNX...you're a fucking liar and you should feel shitty for even saying that bullshit. I'm saying a car I PERSONALLY OWN can smash on cars way more expensive at a fraction of the cost. You're making up cars that can beat my escort...it's a bone stock fucking escort...a mustang from the same year can beat it. This should say a lot about imports if my car is the slow one and it still beats a lot of bmw and mercedes rivals from the same era and in higher classes. Want a good german car? VW corrado! Pretty sure you never looked at though because you want "prestiege" instead of substance.
      5) I'm going to SCHOOL to BECOME a mechanical engineer! Also you got "excepted" to a college? Grasp English before you try engineering cars. It's more difficult to do and I'm learning more and more stuff from guys who've just FIXED cars and did hotrodding back in the days than I ever did just repairing cars on my own. I'm STILL learning every single day and I love every second of it. I seriously doubt I'm older than you are if you grew up in the 90s. Not old enough to have as much of a leg up on you as I do.
      Lastly you're telling people how to modify their cars? REALLY? I could barely understand what you said with the brands. You know what I think..I think you're a poser. End of next year I plan to have both my first rear suspension swap for the 2015 mustang blue printed and tested, also I plan on having my own automotive journalism channel off the ground. Lastly I plan to be starting my own brand of on road, 50 state legal parts that anyone can bolt to their cars in an afternoon. I plan on taking the entire automotive industry by storm and getting rid of the ignorance.
      I think that's why I'm so irritated by you. You're literally one of those people who know nothing but have the nerve to pretend they're an "authority" on cars.
      Lastly if you can't read this and formulate a response number by number....it shows you're lack of intelligence and commitment to the industry. It shows that you'll fall faster than the other companies I plan on forcing to follow suit.

      +David Fischer The way you have to look at it , GM is getting how much power out of supercharged 6.2L compare to BMW M5 4.4L turbocharged , Mercedes AMG C63 now making how much HP out of 4.0L turbocharged ? if you thing it again with normally aspirated engines , last generation M5 had 500HP out of 5.0 ( year 2003 ) M3 made more than 100 HP per liter on both E46 and E90, ( we are talking about year 2000 ) then you realize where GM / Ford ( Mustang GT 5.0 with 435 HP year 2015 ) are lagging and why once it turns to perfection and engineering everybody goes to German cars and GM is always has to play catch ups.

      +Karun Chendrimada Maybe it shifts faster than some DCTs on full throttle downshifts, but upshifting, where it really counts, is almost always slower with a torque converter. After all, why would the manufacturers of the most expensive and highest performing cars unilaterally use DCTs if a lighter, cheaper torque converter automatic truly shifted faster in real-world settings.
