@@thiagodelgado3128 you'll get an over priced box full of false claims that simply creates a false EDID and screws around with the gamma curves, there is no free lunch, even at this outrageous price.
As usual, knocked it out of the park mate! I'd been doing some research on the VRRoom and was having some issues properly understanding how it worked and it's use cases. I especially liked the diagram you drew of the setup. Made it super simple to understand. Well done!
I've owned one siince launch, depending on your needs it may be overkill but perfect for someone with a more complex setup. It has 2 2.1 video outputs, an HDMI audio only and HDMI eARC port. It can be a switch or matrix. In switch mode it just outputs one source to both displays, say a TV and projector. In matrix mode it can output one input to the projector and a different input to the TV (HDMI input 1 to PJ, HDMI input 2 to TV). I believe it can still do 4K 60hz in matrix mode but it can't do dual 8K or dual VRR (it can in swirch mode) which would be rare, especially now that the EU has passed an energy law for displays which has drastically reduced the push to 8K which isn't needed outside probably 120"s and up. I own one, mainly for the LLDV trick to get DV on a non DV display like Samsung or a projector. When the source does the tone mapping (LLDV) it can actually be displayed in any TV, the colors just look washed out unless the display is capable of doing DV and the VRROOM just does this instead of the display. With STD (display led) DV the display does the dynamic tone mapping. Going forward LLDV is mandatory and STD is optional but big OLED makers still support it like Sony and LG because they know what their displays are capable of. This causes issues for gaming as it takes different displays different amounts of time to process the dynamic metadata which is fine for movies/TV but not for games. It can do a lot of other stuff. Most of it over my head though. You can also set the static metadata values in regular HDR content to customize it for your display as HDR, static or dynamic, is just metadata (a hex value). I will say I have owned a few HDFury products and they are always fantastic and their discord is awesome. When I first got the VRROOM I had an issue, posted it in discord (HDFury official discord channel) and an update to fix it was on their site the next day.
@@BuildMontage on UHD BR disc the difference is slightly inferior but on Netflix, if you can't spot the difference, you're prolly wearing glasses since a long time and you might want to consider changing them, difference in picture quality is so obvious on streaming apps ! i'm glad you did that video, thanx again !
How would that work for the Apple TV, Shield Pro and my Physical disk players? That was what I showed in the video - the purpose is to expand to ALL supported devices :)
As a calibrator I can assure you that forcing DV to a projector will result in overly bright tonemapping and oversaturated colour. It’s wrong through and through.
Have you personally used one of these devices? Dolby Vision in simple terms is a LUT / color grade that works over HDR. I have a number of projectors coming on my channel which I can't discuss due to NDA which have been certified for Dolby Vision and one of them currently doesn't have it right now and is getting the certification for it which will turn on later. via a software update. Have you looked into it more to see how DV works in greater detail?
No need to re-calibrate. When you do a calibration you can do an SDR and a HDR calibration. Dolby vision is simply a colour grade LUT applied over HDR so it doesn't affect the corrections made to the greyscale or the colors.
Great video! I've been considering doing this with my NP5 as well. So would you say the performance is better across the board than JVC's frame adapt HDR? Does it mess with any signals that are not Dolby Vision? I'd love to see a follow up video on configuration.
Hi there. I myself am currently in the market for a new projector and I am thinking about purchasing the JVC NP5. I am currently using a Elunevision 135” 2:35:1 acoustically transparent screen. I’ve been told the NP5 can rival very closely the laser series also offered by JVC. Do you think this would be a good option for me
Hey there and no the HDFury does not change anything you don't ask it to. HDR10 is still 444 12bit coming in to the projector. The frame adapt HDR is still applied even with the Dolby Vision signal as it's simply a HDR signal from the JVC's perspective.
@@davemccague222 the NP5 and NZ7, from what I've heard, are effectively the same except for bulb vs laser. You won't see quality differences unless you go to the NZ8 or NZ9, and those are much pricier. I love my NP5, and as posted just now, have been able to make it shine (pun intended). It all depends on the room characteristics and throw distance (less light control and longer distance will require a brighter output.
@BuildMontage hey Tony this is interesting, I myself also have the np5 and am interested if using the hd fury to force dv with jvc frame adapt turned on weather you see further improvements vs leaving it off and interested what u set your hdfury settings too. I know there's heaps on info regarding settings for the Epson ls12000 but not for the jvcs.
Great video brother. I think it's an excellent value, especially for anyone that has a pre/pro or AVR that doesn't support HDMI 2.1. Assuming they want/need 2.1, this is a cost effective way to get without updating their sound processing.
I wouldn't be able to say it will improve anything. I know with MadVR there are a number of ways to configure them - essentially the HDFury doesn't do any tone mapping like people are assuming. Its simply tells the source that the display can do Dolby Vision - it does a lot more than that but the focus of the video was related to Dolby Vision.
Interesting. I'm doing manual tonemapping using recommended settings from others on AVS forum using my same panasonic 4k pkayer and epson projector. I wonder uf this device would improve PQ.
I don't know if it will improve anything for you - I guess the purpose of this video was to give an option for unlocking the DV tone mapping options if the film/tv show was graded with DV.
Here's a question that I don't think you covered in the video... Q: after the HDFury does its thing, what does the projector think it's getting for a signal? I'm assuming HDR10 4:4:4?
I don't have the HDFury affecting or manipulating the HDR10 signals only the Dolby Vision. So no it doesnt change the MaxCLL/Fall or anything else for HDR 10, it still comes in as 12bit 444. The HDFury doesnt change tone mapping itself like a MadVR or Lumagen would.
I have this but I’m thinking about building a HTPC using MadVr but I’m not sure the juice would be worth the squeeze have you ever seen a comparison between the two?
Video processing is the future... Im sure projector manufacturers will start building it in to their units - like JVC has with frame adapt HDR, but just expand on it to contrast recovery and custom LUTS etc..
Definitely a game changer - Ive had my first one for a while since I had my Epson 6040 UB and it greatly improved the picture quality. Keep you your great work and content too!
I came across this video researching forcing DV on my RS1100/NP5. The question I have is that assuming using the default MAX/MIN values (i believe 0/1000) in the HDFury does this not essentially lead to double tone mapping? First by the LDDV source devices (in my case either an Apple TV 4k or a Kscape Strato V) and then by the JVC's DTM upon receiving the HDR10 signal from the HDFury. Double tone-mapping does not sound like a good idea to me. If so, whole perhaps setting the MAX to 4000 in the HDFury since that should cover most content...virtually eliminate the player level ton-mapping and then present a more "pure" signal to the JVC. No clue if this would actually make any difference than just relying on regular HDR10 and JVC DTM. To be honest, I am struggling to understand how doing this on a current get JVC which has very good DTM is a good idea. Previous gens..I can sorta see. Or for projectors with static tone mapping.
That's a great question. There is a lot of chatter about this on the forums, and it's not "double tonemapping". What you're able to do is allow a source to send the LLDV signal via HDR to your projector. The HDFury only really tricks the source into believing it's capable of DV, however yes, you can manipulate the MaxCLL and MaxFall as well - there are lots and lots of settings you can manipulate but it doesn't actually do any tonemapping, it's basically a middleware device and I feel especially now as I have mine paired with a video processor doing HDR to SDR conversion, that the image is unbelieveably goood. JVC DTM is great if you use HDR for sure, and you still allow it to do it's thing even over the top of DV, but when you realise that it's doing the same thing to HDR10 (which is a form of HDR same as DV) you will see in principle it's the same thing. I love mine anyway!
Heya, yes it will show as HDR, as the tonemapping will be done from the source and pushed to the projector via a HDR signal. HDR10 is what most people confuse HDR with, which is essentially a type of HDR tonemapping. So yes, if it shows HDR on your projector and LLDV or VS10 on your player source, it will be sending a DV tone mapping to your projector via HDR.
Even though the information you gave was provided clearly it was a month full and very fast so my brain couldn't process it all instantly so I had to keep skipping back to listen again lol but I got it and will buy the vrroom to go with my Epson ls12000 with anamorphic lens , anthem mrx1140 and Panasonic ub820 I think I'll use option 1 for my setup thanks as always Tony
You can toggle that if you want to, but the goal of this video is to show you the least-intrusive way to get DV on your PJ. If the video is HDR10+, no need to change that signal if your display/projector can display it
Great video, but I'd be curious, if it's brightening up the bulb and getting the colors more vibrant, does it lessen the longevity of the bulb? Any downsides to be aware of? No joke, this is awesome and would definitely help me go from an OLED TV to a Big screen if I can get a similar color scale. Thanks for the info!
Yes that is correct. HD Fury VRRoom can solve problems but if you don't have the issue you don't have to worry about it. It's handy for splitting audio and video for 8K gaming as it has HDMI audio out which is really handy.
No there isn’t. Dolby Atmos needs to be decoded by your processor/receiever. Dolby vision through hdfury is lldv so it’s processed on the source device.
Hope it helps... not really selling anything here, I just love sharing things that interest me and what I do in my own room - so hopefully, if you do get one, you enjoy the experience :)
I love my Vertex2! I have an older AVR that I love the sound of and don’t want to change yet but I want the best possible picture from my JVC. The HDFury gives me both.
Not necessarily. The HDFury VRRoom solves problems more than it fixes your projector's natural ability to produce black levels. It improves the way your devices can connect, displays things like Dolby Vision, and can separate audio from video for 8K content like gaming that requires more than 1 HDMI for audio/video to get the high frame rate.
Always been interested in one of these and although I'm technically minded I just wonder how 'technical' you need to be to get it working. I'm using a Sony VPL-VW590ES projector
Question, I just bought the nakamichi 9.2.4 shockwave for my theater room but now realized my Optoma projector doesn’t have HDMI out for sound but only bit stream and a jack. I know I need to buy something so I can use my speaker system properly, which one of these devices do I get?
I shared the settings I used in the video. I literally only tick three boxes to enable Dolby Vision - and I did share them in the video. If you get stuck, join Discord and send me a private message and I'll see if i can point you in the right direction :)
I tried this 2 years ago. Does help, it doesn’t compare to a lumagen or MadVR. Also the JVC projector here doesn’t cover BT2020 fully so your missing out a lot of what your trying to force in with this.
The mistake is that people think the HDFury is a video processor. It's not. It simply allows the Dolby Vision LUT to be applied via a HDR signal. My projector doesn't miss anything - you're saying it doesn't cover the full BT2020 colour space - but my unit has won the silicon lottery because it comes very close and I'm very happy with the image. Technical specifications sometimes can be your enemy when it comes to enjoyment. All I know is that with the HDFury and DV enabled, I love how it looks on both of my setups - It looks better than HDR10, so whatever the HDFury is doing, Im very happy with it :)
Do you think the arcana 2 would do the job? Found one cheap! Appreciate all your content mate, have helped alot with my set up! Have never had to use a hdfury, I have alot of handshake issues as well, which I hope this helps with.
When using this is there any way to tell through your AVR info that you’re actually receiving an DV -LLDV signal? And if you have your Nvidia shield pro connected to Vroom will you get the tag? Let’s say in Netflix is it showing Dolby vision? Because as of now with my JVCNZ8 through the Nvidia shield pro of course Dolby vision is not tagged in the series that I’m watching. I’m wondering if once I hook this device up if it will be?
To answer your question, if your AVR supports Dolby Vision - yes it will show that it's recieving a DV signal from your player. If you have the VRRoom setup to show that your display can do Dolby Vision, yes it will show the tags as Dolby Vision.
Thank you, Are still using Vrroom? I’ll be using it with a JVCNZ8 and Marantz AV 10 AVR, as well as a Nvidia shield, pro and Panasonic 9000. I subscribed to your channel and now will receive notifications. Thank you for your timely answer. You’re one of the very few that I noticed that answers back. I appreciate all your work. Great Channel .👍 Yeah
Thanks @@georgefrazier8404 - I try to answer all questions, sometimes I miss them if I don't get the notification :) Im answer to your questions, yes I use the VRRoom with my JVC NP5, and I believe that it looks better when showing Dolby Vision content vs standard frame adapt HDR on the same source. The JVC still does it's thing over the top of the LLDV, and if you see in my demos its not like being there in person, its super hard to translate that into a compressed video recording.
Wow that is a shocking difference in picture! Do you think it would have the same effect on lower level projectors like the new Benq HT3560 or an Epson HC3800?
So long as your projector can handle HDR it will work. I cant speak for results on individual projectors but even at the end if you have a look at the 65 Million demo I did - that was shot using my JMGO N1 Ultra which looks insanely good - and its miles less price wise than my NP5.
@@BuildMontage that's very cool. After viewing the site I must admit most of the specs and acronyms are beyond my current understanding, but the demo speaks for itself. I also love how it opens the possibilities up to older (cheaper) AVR's and allows them to simply handle the audio. I better watch this one more time 😅 Thanks!
@@Goose_Lord Thats the idea - I was just showing people options to solve problems. I dont have any skin in the game - I bought two with my own $$ to the tune of $2200 AUD
@@BuildMontage That's a serious value add for a very large number of folks with aging AVR's or processor. Top notch out of the box thinking. Thanks for providing this information in an easy to understand video as well!
Love the videos. I have a setup similar to yours using a projector. A couple of quick questions - can you confirm that to get Dolby Vision you need to use either the HD Fury 4K Diva or the 8k VRROOM 40GBPS (like you). Do any of the other HD Fury products also allow Dolby Vision for a projector (8K Arcana 2 VRR and 4K Vertex 2 seem to be similar boxes but are a bit cheaper). Also if I get this I assume I will need to get my Control 4 system updated by my supplier as I will now only be using a single HDMI in from the HD Fury box and don't need to use my AVR for spilitting the signal to the right source - Apple TV; Zidoo; XBOX? Thanks Phil
Is there any other thing that does the same for cheaper as i need both audio extractor and DV convertor I am running ls12000b and my yamaha avr does 4k 60 without hdr or anything and no hdcp 2.2 But it is amazing for atmos 5.1.4 system and sound Thinking of buying an earc hdmi audio extractor for ls12000b to avr Vrroom costs 900 usd equivalent here so really hesitant if DV is worth that much Any similar devices or suggestions?
There may be some cheaper options but I haven't investigated them as HDFury is what I bought x2 for both my setups and couldn't be happier. I mostly got it for Dolby Vision and to future proof any 2.1 and 8K but it can be used for a multiple of reasons like your own use case listed.
So, does the HD Fury Vrroom override the projector's processor? I'm looking at a Sony vpl-xw6000es but is the sony X1 processor overridden by the HD Fury? Does that negate the idea of spending that kind of money on Sony's processing in the first place?
No it doesn’t. It works on top of the hdfury which doesn’t do ANY processing. It just sends signals to your projector that don’t actually interfere with the sony
I have the new JVC ZX 800 projector so using the HD Fury via LLDV provides a better picture than standard HDR10 even when using the Frame to frame Tome Mapping on the projector
That’s not what the HdFury does. The picture remains as it would. All it does is unlock the ability for your source to send the LLDV tone mapping to the projector via HDR. The jvc still can do its frame adapt.
It looks from the video like the Dolby vision is loosing some final detail compared to not using the HD Fury as seen in the Mario brothers clip. Is that just the video or do you lose a bit of detail?
No detail is lost - you have to look at the demos as just an example of how they are different. I'm doing a recording of a recording - so my camera, the way the refresh rates work, then re-encoding it as part of the video, and then uploading it to UA-cam - along that chain, no doubt details are lost. In terms of in person - no detail is lost or changed from what i can see.
I have a calibrated JVC NZ7 and was looking into getting Dolby Vision to work with it. I would appreciate if you could share your VRROOM 8K settings, as I expect the NP5 to be very similar to my PJ. I notice, for the purpose of the video, that you are using HDR Max Luminance of 4000 and min of 0.0001 with MaxFALL of 400 and MaxCLL of 1000 on the HDR tab. Are those the settings you are currently using on your setup ? I also wonder what information you are using on the DV tab, for the custom DV Data block. Thank you very much, looking forward for more great content. Cheers!
I will have to take a look and see! I just used the default settings recommended by HDFury support. The thing I've learned is its best to change as little as possible, and only the things you need to.
I need this for my formovie theater UST. Been eyeing this off for agers. I currently get DV by forcing my sony x800m2 to play DV and my formovie plays it in DV. But LLDV is better the formovie in DV mode loses about 20% contrast compared to running it in HDR. So getting VRoom I can force LLDV and HDR to get my 20% contrast back while getting the LLDV metadata and tone mapping that HDR lacks.
@BuildMontage yes it does but LLDV is better than DV. And it will only do DV if the 4k disc has DV on it. Unless you have a 4k player to force DV permanently which mine does than it will do all 4k disc in DV HoWEVER like I mentioned DV losses alot of native contrast compared to using HDR. (Due to formovie theater software being developed like this) So the VRROOM you can get 0 contrast loss because you send the HDR signal than pop out LLDV to get an amazing result.
What about DV vs HDR10+. JVC DLA laser can take HDR10+ input, eg 1917 disc as movie sources or AppleTV 4K (3rd GEN which adds HDR10+) and streaming sources like Apple TV+, Prime Video and Paramount+ which has HDR10+ shows and movies? Does the HD Fury VROOM conversion to DV to HDR better than just straight HDR10+? Is this an alternative to MadVR or lumagen?
So I don't activate or force DV or anything other than DV content. You can force it for everything but I want to maintain HDR10+ if the source has it, same as HDR10... so especially with the JVC, let it do it's thing. I still have the frame adapt HDR enabled for the DV content the same exact way you would for HDR10 - although HDR10+ on the JVC locks out most of your settings.
Hi I currently use a Zidoo Z9X for DV playback of local disc backups as you have done previously. Does this add anything over than what the Z9X can do using is LLDV edid settings + VS10 engine? I guess one main advantage is that DV sources from Disney, Apple, Netflix etc are correctly displayed.. as the Z9X doesnt have apps for that?
@@BuildMontage Thanks Tony. Ordered direct with AUS power adaptor. I don't need 8K or HDMI 2.1 so will place it between my Yamaha CXA-5200 receiver and JVC NX7 :). Great addition to my home theatre and decent DV from Netflix and other services.
The XGIMI Horizon Ultra projector supports Dolby Vision.I had one for a while and it looked great but switched to a JVC projector for the better contrast levels.
It uses LLDV - let’s call it a close simulation as it’s done through the source not the display so the tone mapping is done from that end. Still looks pretty incredible.
Great video Tony. Will you be shooting a video on your new JVCNP5 soon? I’m really looking forward to it as I might be in the market for a new projector
Thanks for watching, and yes I will be releasing a full review video on my JVC. I have had to prioritise other videos first and I work full time so I have had to pace myself :) NP5 is best bang for buck 4K native projector on the market right now in my opinion.
This seems like a pretty cool product, but there are 2 major issues I would run into if I bypass the AVR for video. 1) I don't have a harmony remote or Control 4, so I wouldn't be able to switch sources easily. 2) I can't live without the OSD from my AVR, since that's the only way I can make adjustments via the menu... And if I go through the AVR, then I still have the issue of my Yamaha not being able to pass the HDR10+ signal to the PJ... Also, I'm sure to the eye it looks incredible, but the off screen footage in this video just looks like you turned on "vivid" mode. ; )
Losing the OSD does sound like a stinker...I like to know what my volume is set to. Option 1 would be what I'd go with. My Denon is HDMI 2.1 and 8K ready, so seems like no downsides
You don't need to set it up that way. It's not the purpose for buying it to get 8K - Im just showing options of the way you can set it up. If you want 8K and 2.1 through your reciever you will simply need to upgrade it if you don't want to lose the OS. Im saying in my case, I don't care about OSD as the Trinnov uses a VNC connection to get to the settings, the only OSD from Trinnov now is a volume control which I don't need as I have other ways to see that sort of info.
Great video, as always. Currently I am using a Panasonic DMP-UB900 (the model before the 9000) and I have it hooked up and downscaled to an Epson 1080p projector. I can fiddle with the HDR/SDR conversion on the Panasonic to get OK results. But, I wondering if I could either disable HDR completely with the VRROOM or do a better conversion through the VRROOM than with the panasonic. Thoughts?
I know you can do a lot of tweaks but I don't know off hand the answer to your question. There is the Discord link to the HD Fury support and you could post the question there. It's a pretty specific thing you want to do but I do know that the VRRoom can help out with fixing issues like this - you'd need to check with them :)
Does your projector detect SDR or HDR as send by the HdFury? I am an early adaptor, use the HdFury, Anthem AVM 70 and Sofabaton X1 remote. On the HF Diva, my 4k JVC laser projector detect HDR. Would it worth it to upgrade to VrRoom? I uses the Diva to switch from MAC mini M1, sheild tv or Zappiti reference, For Edid, i selected Custom Edid (10 Sony A1 LLDV BT2020) for all inputs except M1 (custom Edid 53 4k-30 444 300Mhz) in HDR/AVI custom HDR if LLDV is detected, STM profile 7 for HDR to SDR conversion TX1 (1080p)HF output TX0 (4k) to input 1 Anthem AVM 70 to projector(4k) and HF output TX1 (1080p) to old sony tv , Tv box and UHD Blu-ray disk to Anthem other inputs. I use Sofabaton X1 remote control to navigate the sources and also for 2 channels music system. Like the Anthem, the HdFury, it went trough debugging but now it works fine. The HdFury Diva still have some issues on fire-up. It might be a delay or sequence problem on the part my programming of the remote.
I didn't expect for there to be that much of a difference the picture comparison - holy cow! Any latency issues that are created by the HDFury? I know that AVR have lip sync options, but curious if you noticed any issues Also, from menu to video is VERY fast in this video. Is that true speed or an edit? JVC is pretty quick to switch from SDR to HDR, but it's still about 5 seconds. Is the HDFury assisting this handshake and speeding it up? If so, that alone sounds worth it to me
The HDFury actually fixes lag/synch issues so quite the opposite to what you would expect - it's half the purpose of the device to fix issues like that. And no the switch is quite fast. I can't guarantee it will be like that for everyone - you need a specific firmware version to do it :)
Hi. I have Jvc x750r, oppo udp 203. Hdr looks bad on my projector with gamma d, therefore i used hdr to sdr in oppo 203 with bt2020. If i playing DV through HD fury on my projector, can i receive best dark, highlights and colors from DV movies?
I don't rightly know. I know HD Fury built their products earlier to give "HDR" like performance on non-SDR displays, so its possible it could help it perform better but i don't know is the truth.
Not a dumb question but that’s not what this does. Your shield may support dolby vision but unless your display is certified for Dolby Vision it won’t actually give you that tone mapping. This vrroom device tricks your shield into playing Dolby Vision :)
Wait a minute did he say 8k content on his 4K projector if he uses hdmi for all devices plugged in and his avr as the sound only? I have this device already and a sony xw5000 coming to upgrade from my Optoma P2 which looked really good but I am interested in doing this exact setup he claims with my denon x6700 to see if I could achieve what he says?
No no.. the 8K is specifically for 8K TVs and Projectors such as the JVC NZ8 which has the 8K eshift option. What it allows is for you to bypass the lack of HDMI 2.1, however I believe the x6700 supports HDMI 2.1, but not sure about 8K you may need to check that.. By splitting the audio and video inside the HDFury it allows you to do it without losing the audio, as 8K often requires more bandwidth.
@@BuildMontage ok thanks for clarifying I may end up selling my sony xw5000es since I got it for a great $2600 new open box. Its the only device preventing 8k for me then. The denon is capable of 8k on one of the three hdmi out ports other two are 4k. I have a Dune hd ultra vision 4k player I absolutely love. Not many on UA-cam that speak English has done any content on it though so many are unaware of its capabilities. I do think the menus look identical to your Zidoo player. I obtained the hdfury 8k vrroom about a year ago on a whim and I must say this device rocks. Do you have any suggestions on projector screens if I can control my ambient light?
If you're after 8K then really you would need to go with something like the JVC N7 which can do 8K eshift, however it's 2 way shift, or the JVC NZ8 which does a 4 way shift. I haven't check Dune players out recently - hoping to get my hands on one some day for sure.@@deshawzn79

Watched again - great info! I'm close to pulling the trigger on this. I wonder if your quick handshake from menu to video is related to the Trinnov being a beast or if the HDF is actually speeding it up? My handshake through Denon is pretty slow.
Hi There, I am very grateful for your work and all the video you made and will make. I am know setting up my HDFury Vertex 2 with my HTPC. It can do almost the same like the VROOM but only without 8k. In one of your last videos you mentioned that you will bring out a new video with Htpc/madvr. Thanks for watching. The MadVR video is definitely coming - I've already filmed it, however, my room is in pieces so I couldn't film any of the example footages. As soon as my room is done, I will finish it!
@@BuildMontage would that be the best case scenario for getting all HDR formats running on Epson 5050ub(only supports hdr10 and hlg) with set it and forget it kind of scenario so it would automatically adapt the HDR10+ and especially Dolby Vision to run on it? Ive heard that building a decent PC with good GPU would be able to translate-adapt DV via software - would Vertex2 do the same(as in frame by frame adaptation of DV)?
@pesokpesok no. Frame adapt is video processing. The hdfury doesn’t do that. It just communicates between devices. U will need a diy pc or a madvr or lumagen for that.
Great review! Thanks for sharing. I have a JVC NX7, a Denon Receiver with HDMI 8K and a Zidoo Z10 Pro media player. Hi, thanks for the detailed video ! Just to understand: if I'll connect nvidia shield to a hdr10 projector using the hdfury - will I'll be able to see dv content on my projector ? If so - will the cheaper devices of hdfury will also able to do the same (like drhdmi) ? Thanks 😊
Can I please double check if I go with option 1, can I use any HDMI IN ports of my receiver (denon 3700) to connect the HDfury and then use any of the HDFury TX HDMI ports to connect the projector for DV support. Cheers
you forgot to mention that tuning the DV and HDR parameters in the VRROOM is a headache and might take a few days to find the optimal values.Non-optimal values cause crushing the bright details, create grey/dull output images or hide shadow details...
I wanted to keep the video non technical, but yes it’s good to work out your nit levels in hdr using a sensor and plug in the details. For the purposes of the video I left them at default.
Great video, its made me curious and i can see a few others too from the comments. With JVC having its own tone mapping eg frame by frame i thought this was instead of hdr+ or dolby vision but i see in one of the above comments, you said it works with it? So i've definitely missed something. Would you mind explaining when you get a min.
Truth be told, I don't know the answer to your question in any definitive way. What I have done is test with and without frame adapt WHILE having the DV signal come from the source (remember that the projector is just getting a HDR signal and doesnt know anything about Dolby Vision) and I found the image was much better with frame adapt enabled. So the technicals behind it - I have NO clue but I know I love the image. HDR10+ is it's own thing, ignored by the HDFury and the projector will play it as intended.
Thanks to your video, I just got my Vrroom today. Yes, the difference is immediately noticeable on my Trinnov-JVC system too, although not night and day. I can appreciate the color improvement, but I can also understand if some one still prefers JVC’s own frame adapt. However, I think just for the HDMI 2.1 and full audio extraction function alone, it shall benefit all current Trinnov users. Yeah, right now I’m thinking getting a second one for my RS20i too. Nice video!
Flash a custom edid and you can edit your luminance levels in the DV block in the HDFury to suit your actual ft lamberts for your unique scenario. Common for projectors is 300-500. LLDV can look better like this on Pjs than default graded luminosity of 1000 or 10000 for TVs.
Great channel and very informative video, thanks Tony! Running an Altitude 16 + JVC N7 + AppleTV 4K + Panasonic UD9004 as well, I was wondering whether LLDV through VRROOM delivers a noticeable picture quality upgrade over JVC‘s own Frame Adapt algorithm (that I really enjoy)? Thanks a lot for your thoughts
That’s what I hoped, thanks a million! As an engineer I try to be well informed 😊 and already read the Vrroom handbook etc. I found the 2 ticks you’ve mentioned in your video and I noticed that you chose „Custom“ for your first one („DV“ from „Copy TX Sink EDID and Modify“). I was wondering whether you’re so kind and share the settings of your „Construct Custom Dolby Vision Data Block“ with me - since we run same equipment? Again many thanks in advance and greetings from Austria!
Hey Tony, so what is your current thoughts on this unit after a month more of ownership. I'm interested in it but have read a lot of negative reviews about it as well, with it being finnicky. I have a 105" alr gray screen with an Epson 5050UB projector. Would this make a noticeable difference in HDR and brightness when watching dolby vision content, or will not worth the investment and hassle of setting up? By the way, you are quickly becoming one of my favorite HT channels! Cheers from America
Stavros... mate.. I've had a VRRoom for around a year in my main setup with my JVC NP5 and before that on my Epson 6040UB. I can't say enough great things about it. I've never had a single issue with either of them. As I mentioned, I paid full price for both of them, not a sponsored video they dont even know I made this video. I would say that the Dolby Vision switch over HDR is a big bump in brightness and vividness with colours. I am very happy I bough them - well worth the money. My next step up will be a lumagen or madvr which is SIGNIFICANTLY more expensive than this and my JVC combination with frame adapt HDR
@BuildMontage thank you for the reply brother! I'll probably give it the Vroom a spin. The price is too good to pass up and a madvr is too steep for me!
Glad to see this video. I would love a copy of your config so I can compare with my own (also with an NP5). Also, which firmware are you running on the VRRoom?
I'll have to take a look - as I said I didn't really change much - I learned from the HDFury discord support team that its best just to tick the two boxes to turn it on and leave it at that. The only other thing I did was disable CEC because I want my remote to handle everything.
Oh so you didn't change the max luminance or color space settings then,@@BuildMontage ? I'd like to understand their rationale in leaving everything alone.
@@tworocksandapebble yes I left these as default as this was recommended by the HDFury discord admin team. I have played around extensively with these settings and all I can say is I couldn't see any difference at all by changing the MaxCLL/Fall variables. This is when I ended up at their Discord and was told to leave them default. If you have anything to add here, Im all ears :)
I bought two for about that price. Totally worth it for me! I guess it's an individual decision to weigh up if it's worth it - not an absolute yes/no situation :)
@@BuildMontage yes all flagship Samsung models do HDR10+ but no Dolby Vision. This means their Q-OLEDs can do Dolby Vision with this, that would be amazing 😎
I'm not actually comparing anything, I'm just showing that if you want to get DV tone mapping you can get it "kinda" through using the HD Fury devices by unlocking the features. It's LLDV or VS10 vs native DV but it's still pretty nice. I have a Dolby Vision native projector and it looks VERY close to the real thing on my other projector with the HD Fury.
I can assure you it's not - it's quite difficult to record a recording and then that gets compiled and the uploaded to UA-cam and then UA-cam does its compression on that as well. So I do my best but it's not "true to life" as in being within my room.
@@BuildMontage Yeah UA-cam ruins every video with its compression, thats why it looks over saturated on my screen, but i have seen dolby vision and it does look good.
Hey David, not to argue with someone way more qualified than I am, however, I don't believe this is the case. There are two types of Dolby Vision 1) Display does LUT (DV), 2) Source does the LUT (LLDV). Ive done direct comparisons between them in I can't tell the difference - I have tested on Dolby Certified devices. Whether or not DV can be displayed natively on a display is more directly related to licensing and whether or not the company will get the license to have Dolby Vision. Essentially it's just a LUT so if your projector can do HDR then it can do Dolby Vision as DV is essentially a LUT/colour grade. What the HDFury device does is simply tell the source that the display is capable of DV - and then pushes the LUT via HDR. Either way, whether or not it's right or wrong, I really like how the tone mapping is applied especially on my JVC.
BUY HDFURY VRROOM : amzn.to/3DQvfa4
Be aware that HD Fury will only provide direct hardware replacement support for devices bought from their official site.
OK correct me if I get it wrong, with this HDFURY I'll get DV and also don't need to get a new receiver with HDMI 2.1? I Have denon X6500H
@@thiagodelgado3128 you'll get an over priced box full of false claims that simply creates a false EDID and screws around with the gamma curves, there is no free lunch, even at this outrageous price.
Should we still purchase this if we plan to have Mad-VR in the Setup.
@@KING_DRANZER Absolutely not. The MadVR setup is very good, this device is not.
Shout out to Harper Vision and all the guys on AVS Forum who created this hack about 4 or 5 years ago. Great video Tony.
Such an awesome device. It's helped me do a number of things in both of my setups.
As usual, knocked it out of the park mate! I'd been doing some research on the VRRoom and was having some issues properly understanding how it worked and it's use cases.
I especially liked the diagram you drew of the setup. Made it super simple to understand. Well done!
Glad it helped doing the diagrams. I knew that it was going to be the only way to really show the various ways to connect.
Excellent video ! Just tried it and it improves netflix stream dramatically, DV version of any netflix content is WAY better !
Thanks for sharing that - great to have some feedback as people have been skeptical about it.
Excellent mate, I always lean something from you without fail and am inspired by your pursuit of visual and audio perfection, keep it up.
Thanks for watching mate, appreciate it.
Why not use the Zidoo's setting for DV? Why the extra ''gadget''?
How would that work for the Apple TV, Shield Pro and my Physical disk players? That was what I showed in the video - the purpose is to expand to ALL supported devices :)
@@BuildMontage I see.
Q: Did you have to do a new calibration on that PJ for the Dolby Vision content once you hooked up the HDFury?
I like this question and would be good to know since I'm looking at a calibration coming up for my PJ
Thats one great use case for sure. Getting DV on any display is another :)
High quality video as always Tony, thank you for this.
Awsome video Tony. Grate way of setting up the comparison shot.
Thanks mate!
I have been waiting for this one
Here’s a question for you Tony. Would you know if this will work if you have MadVR (or even a self built MadVR using the same software) ?
I wouldn't be able to say it will improve anything. I know with MadVR there are a number of ways to configure them - essentially the HDFury doesn't do any tone mapping like people are assuming. Its simply tells the source that the display can do Dolby Vision - it does a lot more than that but the focus of the video was related to Dolby Vision.
The music during the video demo was amazing.
Epidemic Sound
One of the favorite device in my home theater. Love it! Great video Tony
Definitely a game changer - Ive had my first one for a while since I had my Epson 6040 UB and it greatly improved the picture quality. Keep you your great work and content too!
@@BuildMontage thanks Tony!
@@BuildMontagewas just about to ask if this would be worth it on a 5040ub, assuming it should since it’s close to a 6040?
Is it ment to send the DV so my projector reads it as hdr or does it send it as sdr 12 bit LLDV as my projector doesn’t go into hdr when I use it?
Ha yes apologies. I do speak with purpose sometimes... glad you were able to play it back till it made sense!
Nice video Tony, the side by side comparison was great.
Thanks mate :)
Hi if movie is only being broadcast in HDR10+ do you need to change the settings on the HDFury from Dolby vision to HDR10+
You can toggle that if you want to, but the goal of this video is to show you the least-intrusive way to get DV on your PJ. If the video is HDR10+, no need to change that signal if your display/projector can display it
Appreciate that, thanks much,
As Torin said the toggle I use is only for Dolby Vision so hdr10+ plays as intended.
@@BuildMontageGreat Video, thank you both!
Just got it ... set it up.. thanks for your help via email as well as this awesome video.
Hope u like it!
I want to achieve the very same thing, can this be done using any other way like with some Orei HDMI splitter or Audio Extractors etc. ?
Yes for splitting and 8K but not sure about Dolby Vision as it requires spoofing the EDID.
No - it does require the projector to support HDR.
Bulb life is lowered when on high settings and minimally with power cycles. The settings as suggested here shouldn't affect the bulb by themselves.
Did you try this with the bend w4000i?
No I didn't have it in the chain with that review.
So of you have an HDMI 2.1 receiver ala the Cinema 50 you can just run everything direct to that and then output to the HDfury and be fine?
Yes that is correct. HD Fury VRRoom can solve problems but if you don't have the issue you don't have to worry about it. It's handy for splitting audio and video for 8K gaming as it has HDMI audio out which is really handy.
@@BuildMontage awesome. Would be an addition to my Epson LS12000 which avs seems to think is the key to unlocking this projector in all its glory
Is there something like this for dolby atmos, to add dolby atmos to an existing non atmos home reciever
No there isn’t. Dolby Atmos needs to be decoded by your processor/receiever. Dolby vision through hdfury is lldv so it’s processed on the source device.
Thank you sir for this video. I have been looking at them ever since. Next on my list!
Hope it helps... not really selling anything here, I just love sharing things that interest me and what I do in my own room - so hopefully, if you do get one, you enjoy the experience :)

Hey Tony, do you have a how to guide on how to build a madvr pc like you did? Thanks
Not yet - I did have one half filmed before I pulled my room apart - once its full finished i will do the video :)
@BuildMontage thanks mate. Appreciate ya!
can you use hd fury to bypass the HDCP 2.2 protection to split the signal to two screens at the same time ?
I can neither confirm or deny this :)
You need a tutorial on how to hook this thing up. I have one and can't hook sources up directly to it. It only works through my receiver.
Great video! Do you think this can improve the black levels and hdr performance on a projector that does not have great black levels or HdR output?
Not necessarily. The HDFury VRRoom solves problems more than it fixes your projector's natural ability to produce black levels. It improves the way your devices can connect, displays things like Dolby Vision, and can separate audio from video for 8K content like gaming that requires more than 1 HDMI for audio/video to get the high frame rate.
Always been interested in one of these and although I'm technically minded I just wonder how 'technical' you need to be to get it working. I'm using a Sony VPL-VW590ES projector
Not too difficult. Depends how far down the rabbit hole you want to go - but literally 2-3 tickboxes and its on!
Will this work on panels? I would think so as it's just sending a signal out yeah ?
The criteria is whether or not your display (tv or projector) can do HDR. If it can, likely you will get it to work.
Is this box overkill for my Sony 5000es laser projector? It's not 2.1 . I'm not a gamer. Which box is better for me?
I bought the HDFury VRRoom specifically for the Dolby Vision aspect of it. So it depends on how much you want to get DV on your setup I guess :)
Question, I just bought the nakamichi 9.2.4 shockwave for my theater room but now realized my Optoma projector doesn’t have HDMI out for sound but only bit stream and a jack. I know I need to buy something so I can use my speaker system properly, which one of these devices do I get?
Hi Tony would you be able to share your setting on your VRROOM please to see if i have set it up correctly.
I shared the settings I used in the video. I literally only tick three boxes to enable Dolby Vision - and I did share them in the video. If you get stuck, join Discord and send me a private message and I'll see if i can point you in the right direction :)
@@BuildMontage do you have a JVC NZ8, and are you still using the settings from the video?

Hey thanks for this. I have a denon x8500h. Can the vrroom work better instead of going for the 8k module upgrade from Denon?
@@vijaysrinivasan6362 sure can. That’s how I use it with my Trinnov processor
@@BuildMontage Great thanks for the response. Makes sense to go for this instead of a chip upgrade
Does this actually tone map to the dolby vision standards or just let you play DV content?
It just unlocks the source to detect that the display can accept Dolby Vision - that's pretty much it - it doesn't do any kind of tone mapping itself.
Excellent work Tony. Can the 12v trigger be configured? The manual only mentions 12v output. My system is controlled by 12v triggers and Control4.
Good question, I didn't use it in either setup even though I have 12v setup with my Trinnov I haven't found a need for it.

Thanks Phil
Hmm Im not sure of any other prodycts, possibly the Arcana2 could do it as well.
Is there any other thing that does the same for cheaper as i need both audio extractor and DV convertor
I am running ls12000b and my yamaha avr does 4k 60 without hdr or anything and no hdcp 2.2
But it is amazing for atmos 5.1.4 system and sound
Thinking of buying an earc hdmi audio extractor for ls12000b to avr
Vrroom costs 900 usd equivalent here so really hesitant if DV is worth that much
Any similar devices or suggestions?
Thank you for the quick response!@@BuildMontage
Thank you Tony 👍
can this vrroom used from apple tv/zidoo to samsung s95c to enable dolby vision although samsung doesn't support it?
Yes that is correct. Can be used for any source that supports Dolby Vision as long as your display can do HDR.
@@BuildMontage that sounds awesome. Thanks for the detailed explanation!
Doesnt the formovie already support DV natively? I reviewed one on my channel already and it does.
(Due to formovie theater software being developed like this)
So the VRROOM you can get 0 contrast loss because you send the HDR signal than pop out LLDV to get an amazing result.
Does HD fury works with UST projectors?
Of course!!
@@BuildMontage Thanks Tony👍🏾
I still have the frame adapt HDR enabled for the DV content the same exact way you would for HDR10 - although HDR10+ on the JVC locks out most of your settings.
ah 😂 makes sense, so the fury passes HDR and HDR10+ and only process DV
Hi I currently use a Zidoo Z9X for DV playback of local disc backups as you have done previously. Does this add anything over than what the Z9X can do using is LLDV edid settings + VS10 engine?
I guess one main advantage is that DV sources from Disney, Apple, Netflix etc are correctly displayed.. as the Z9X doesnt have apps for that?
As u said in paragraph 2. It’s useful so you can do any source :)
Will this work on L.E
D projectors
If it can do HDR then yes :)
The XGIMI Horizon Ultra projector supports Dolby Vision.I had one for a while and it looked great but switched to a JVC projector for the better contrast levels.
I have both :)
So the TV or projector needs to have HDR for this to work
To get the dolby vision over HDR - yes.
Nice review just too expensive upgrade for my Benq HT 3550, but maybe next time
I think it will unlock the potential of that projector for sure! I was using it on my Epson 6040UB for a while and it made the image look spectacular.
@@BuildMontage you’re tempting me.
Does it do true dolby vision or a close simulation?
It uses LLDV - let’s call it a close simulation as it’s done through the source not the display so the tone mapping is done from that end. Still looks pretty incredible.
Great video Tony. Will you be shooting a video on your new JVCNP5 soon? I’m really looking forward to it as I might be in the market for a new projector
Thanks for watching, and yes I will be releasing a full review video on my JVC. I have had to prioritise other videos first and I work full time so I have had to pace myself :) NP5 is best bang for buck 4K native projector on the market right now in my opinion.
@@BuildMontage thanks Tony. I am really looking forward to it.
Not sure I understand the question. The jvc will detect the signal as hdr and switch to it.
The JVC NP5 allows you to force SDR/HDR10/HDR10+. The question is if you leave it on Auto or set it to one of those modes manually?
Auto
Will this work on a 720p projector?
No - the projector needs to support HDR
@@BuildMontage thanks
I didn't expect for there to be that much of a difference the picture comparison - holy cow!
Any latency issues that are created by the HDFury? I know that AVR have lip sync options, but curious if you noticed any issues
Also, from menu to video is VERY fast in this video.
@@BuildMontage firmware on JVC, Trinnov, or HDF?
Also, would it be that quick with both option 1 and option 2?
Hey man, probably a dumb question, but doesnt nvidia shield also offer dolby vision for 1/3 of the price?
Not a dumb question but that’s not what this does. Your shield may support dolby vision but unless your display is certified for Dolby Vision it won’t actually give you that tone mapping. This vrroom device tricks your shield into playing Dolby Vision :)
@BuildMontage ohhhh ok, and does Vrroom act like a shield in the sense that it can download and use apps like netflix or do i need to have both?

I've gone for the Arcana 5 version 1 (2 has vrr) to get LLDV from my Panasonic 820 on Epson eh-tw9400. It was £210. Cheapest option I could see.
Yes it’s a good option
Watched again - great info! I'm close to pulling the trigger on this.
I wonder if your quick handshake from menu to video is related to the Trinnov being a beast or if the HDF is actually speeding it up? My handshake through Denon is pretty slow.
i wouldnt buy this to speed up handshake... i also never saw it as a problem though...

Is there any way that you can tell me how you did it or of you implementation. I am also a home cinema owner, who built everything by myself. Anyway for everything thank you. best wishes from Germany
Thanks for watching. The MadVR video is definitely coming - I've already filmed it, however, my room is in pieces so I couldn't film any of the example footages. As soon as my room is done, I will finish it!
excuse the possibly obvious Q - what would be the cheapest way or device to get DV working with Nvidia Shield tv player and Epson 5050ub projector?
There is hdfury vertex2 which is decently priced.
I don't play games and I'm not into the 8K yet :)
I just want to send Dolby Vision signo to my projector and certainly I don't need the most expensive HDfury for that. Which of the models do you recommend? Thanks in advance and regards!
I haven't really looked at the other models much but the vertex2 should do it for you.
I've receive today a brand new HDfury Vertex 2!, but I'm a bit lost in how to set it up. I have a Zidoo Z10 Pro connected to a Denon 6700, which connects to a JVC NX7. Do you have a tutorial in how to set the HDfury? Apparently my home cinema is similar to yours 😊 I would be much appreciated with your tips!
Thanks 😊
Yes pretty much that’s how I use it. I’m not sure of the other models u may have to look on the website.
Gday mate. Thanks for the video. I have Samsung LSP7T projector. Keen to get this for DV support.
Yes that would work for sure!
I'm thinking about getting one ..i own sony xw5000es do advice me to get one and if so is it that complicated it to get the perfect result
Nice video!
Glad it helped in some way. The thing to note is if u have frame adapt still enabled it works over the top of that as well :)

@@BuildMontage yep, I can see the improvements!
Flash a custom edid and you can edit your luminance levels in the DV block in the HDFury to suit your actual ft lamberts for your unique scenario. Common for projectors is 300-500. LLDV can look better like this on Pjs than default graded luminosity of 1000 or 10000 for TVs.
Can do a custom edid with a zidoo player as well. There are some specific to JVCs for triggering HDR. Thanks for making this video.
What's the deal with the paranoia about the projector staying on? Is that some kind of lamp life issue?
Yeah that’s just me and my fear as the bulb is expensive
The other reason is I use the room only once or twice per week with the door closed so if I left it on it would drain the bulb
Hey Tony, what do you think of Andrew Robinson? No relationship to Tony Robbins lol
HUH?
Great channel and very informative video, thanks Tony! Running an Altitude 16 + JVC N7 + AppleTV 4K + Panasonic UD9004 as well, I was wondering whether LLDV through VRROOM delivers a noticeable picture quality upgrade over JVC‘s own Frame Adapt algorithm (that I really enjoy)? Thanks a lot for your thoughts
I think it will shine in your room. It can work in conjunction with your projector. I still have frame adapt enabled :)
Perfect 👍👍
The price is too steep for the upgraded effect old son AUD700
I bought two for about that price. Totally worth it for me! I guess it's an individual decision to weigh up if it's worth it - not an absolute yes/no situation :)

Definitely it will
So you’re comparing DolbyVision dynamic metadata with HDR10 static metadata? Shouldn’t you compare DV against HDR10+ ?
I'm not actually comparing anything, I'm just showing that if you want to get DV tone mapping you can get it "kinda" through using the HD Fury devices by unlocking the features. It's LLDV or VS10 vs native DV but it's still pretty nice. I have a Dolby Vision native projector and it looks VERY close to the real thing on my other projector with the HD Fury.

The dolby vision color looks over saturated.
Using that unit is technically wrong. Forcing DV on a non-DVD device gives you wrong mapping and (wrongly) oversaturated colours.
I think you need to do a video on how to maintain that epic beard of yours.
