I cite my sources and they may differ than other people's accounts, so I don't guarantee the actual accuracy of my videos.
"Flagpole Sitta" is one of the most iconic 90's One Hit Wonders, and I sing along loudly with the chorus every single time!
This band is underrated, their first album is great. Definitely deserves more attention
Agreed. That album had other really solid tracks on it.
I put Harvey Danger in the same class as Local H, who taught us we could use copacetic in a song. They had a catchy song that took thought but no one cared because it was catchy. The rest of their stuff was think rock. Rock you have to think about. It’s never worked.
For Local H, I don't think you would maintain a long career when you biggest hit is a depressing song
@@ZapperRS a lot of bands do exclusively depressing song and do fine but I agree too much of it is no good
I had a friend who went to UW from 1993-97, and he said he was at a frat party (he lived on campus) around his sophomore year and Harvey Danger was playing the party and they were being booed off the stage, with people yelling, "you suck!" 3 or so years later, they'd be on the radio.
yea the crowd was right they do suck
@@dvvaughn564 Yeah, right. Mind if I ask where your hit song that people still recognize over a decade later is?
@@seanmckelvey6618 anything Def Leppard Motley Crue scorpions AC/DC ratt
Hell ratt had an old song just rechart a few years back.
Flagpole Sitta is a unique song. The guitar parts are incredibly simple, it basically just two chords back and forth fairly slowly for the majority of the song. The bass adds variation to make the parts sound different and the backing vocals make the song work.
"Sometimes You Have to Work on Christmas, Sometimes" from these guys is on my Christmas rotation every year. ITs a great song
Great song- the energy was infectious and you couldn’t help but get pumped listening to it.
I thought Todd In the Shadows was right when he said that Flagpole Sitta was sort of the last gasp of 90's alternative. Back then it was either nu metal, industrial, or severely watered down alternative like Third Eye Blind. A good song that sort of signifies the end of an era. Sad Sweetheart of the Rodeo is also a good tune.
Flagpole was the theme song for British Tv show peepshow. And it fitted the spirit of the show perfectly.
Peep Show was what made me buy their album, but sadly Flagpole Sitta was the only decent song on it.
Always wondered what happened with Harvey Danger. Great video.
They deserve more recognition than they get.
Everyone should listen to this album front to back.
In my opinion, "Flagpole Sitta" is one of the weaker songs from what is an exceptional album. One of my favorite tracks "Carlotta Valdez" could be a hit single if it was released today on "rock radio" stations. The song "Problems and Bigger Ones" is a truly moving track- there is just so much raw emotion that comes through in an honest and genuine way. There is just so much cool stuff happening on this album from the vocal harmonies to the distorted bass guitar, and the drums just sound terrific.
Problems and bigger ones has to be my favorite HD song, and I'm a huge fan love all their work.
I loved their single, "Sad Sweetheart of the Rodeo"!
Wildly underrated band. Little By Little was a great record. Cream and Bastards Rise is probably the obvious single, but Little Round Mirrors, Happiness Writes White, and (the prophetic) Diminishing Returns are excellent songs.
Flagpole Sitta is a freaking masterpiece. What encapsulates the angst of being alive in this world more than this song? If I were the author of it I'd be brimming with pride to be a one-hit wonder, what a legacy.
King James Version is actually better than a lot of people give it credit for. The lead single, "Sad Sweetheart of the Rodeo" should have been a bigger song.
Evan is actually drummer of a great two-piece indie outfit called Sleepy Kitty. I had the pleasure of working for them both at a music magazine from 2014 to 2016.
i loooved King James Version!! in general their music is filled with such fun energy
How can you miss out the fact Flagpole Sitta was the theme tune to Peep Show in the UK? This is how most people in our country got to hear it and then it became popular here. Peep Show started in 2003 and lasted till around 2015, this track was used from the 2nd series till the 9th.
I just heard the song on SiriusXM’ Lithium Channel. Since then, I cannot get enough of the song Flagpole Sitta! It’s like it just came out this year. Amazing stuff! I have been listening to the song over and over. Love the words too! It’s really a masterpiece. It needs more promotion and playtime on Radio Stations 🚉 Thanks
I'll watch the video, but what happened is they were criminally underappreciated. They made three terrific albums. Go listen to them!
It was also the theme song of 'Peep Show' on BBC 4. Another underated gem.
Listen to the rest of their discography. They’re very good
Heard Little Round Mirrors on Californication. Found the last album up for free on their website. Still one of my all time albums
I use to wake up with hangovers and flagpole sitta playing on the radio, somehow i never got tired of it. i always thought it was a unique and clever song besides everything else that was popular at the time.
I think I was 5 in 1994 so I don't remember 🤔 much, but I do remember replays of the song on Mtv in 1999 when I was 10. Great upload today!👍🏾🎼🎵🎶
Got to see this band at one of our local stations 107.7 the end’s END FEST.. got to see them with Crystal Method, GREEN DAY annnnd 🤔 💭 hmm .. Marcy Playground I think lol.. I always loved Harvey Danger .. and yes the stations def overplayed the exact same song over and over and over.. when their first album had several great fun songs on it.. also didn’t hurt having the “at the times program director/ DJ Marco Collins as a fan of theirs .. he’s the king maker with new upcoming bands during the 90s-a good chunk of early-mid 2000s .. he’s the reason I went to school for radio in the first place .. he didn’t have that super cheesy radio voice ! Annnnywhoo I digress.. Harvey danger ⚠️! If you haven’t heard them due to being a youngin .. DOOOOOOOOOoooo ITTTTTT 😉
That song was a great summer soundtrack at that time in my life. Can you please start playing the video of the songs/band you’re talking about afterwards?
Why? So the videos they spend so much time researching and making can get copyrighted claimed? Just search for the song. 😅
Hi Andie
@@johnnyhilz7385 I feel like it would keep the mood going and not everyone knows what song/band it is. I thought it might be a good ending to his videos. Didn’t think about the legal ramifications tho
@@andiestewart7423 - Don’t get me wrong. It would be cool. But definitely not doable…
Hilly underated Band and Flagpole sitter is just one of those timeless songs that catch the zeitgeist of a movement and an entire Generation.
Their album Little by Little is one of the best albums I heard in the early 00's.
Lead singer released an amazing tribute album, Nelson sings Nilsson.
incredibly underrated band.
Harvey Danger was the 90s best kept secret.
Paranoia Paranoia Everybody's coming to get me!
I remember when I learned the names of the band members I heard "Jeff Lin" but my mind heard "Jeff Lynne" and I was very confused for a while.
Managed to see them at HFStival '98
No disclaimer. Also, Todd In The Shadows did a great video on these guys.
Todd is awesome and very funny too so doubly good 👌
Flagpole such a great song
I'm confused, is this a remake of a previous video? I remember this video already existing.
no, I had done a video on flagpole pitta.
@@rnrtruestories I knew about that video but I remember there being another one.
So much more to this great band than that one song
very underrated band.
Their albums are all great, but my favorite is little by little
This video is basically identical to ‘Why Flagpole Sitta is so misunderstood.’.
This song always makes me think of American Pie.
Where have all the Merrymakers gone is a great album.
Great video.
What about the fact it became the opening song for 'Peep Show' in their second season?
In my opinion, going through most of Harvey Danger's songs, they're far from one hit wonders. So many of their songs are so consistently good and catchy, though i just wish they for more exposure past their one song
A good album to check out (and probably my favorite of theirs) is King James Version. Do me a favor, check it out and tell me what you think! Personally Harvey Danger is one of my favorite bands of all time :)
7:06 I barely recognized Matt Pinfield in this picture.
Soul.
Please do one on Dave Abbruzzese
That song is great and hilarious
The LYRICS on that record, straight BARS: "I'm paranoid that everybody's coming to get me/to say they never met me" What are you ON my guy? Just ridiculous
Close, but your lyrics are incorrect. It's paranoia, paranoia everybody's coming to get me, just say you never met me.
@@gmon78 Lol, yeah true
Simply put, every single time they were all in it for the purpose of being able to act like a first one, it would have been without a new one for a while and the others are going to have to practice this year so they can be able to sustain such a grandiose and good idea for the team that they don't care about. The reason why they don't have any jokes about it but it's strange is that they don't know if you are going through the holidays and the others are not impartial about the symbolic meaning of the colors.
What the absolute fuck are you on about?
Is this just a re-upload?
I’m not sick, but I’m not well
Isn’t this the 3rd video on the same subject?
A video about Harvey Danger with no mention of Peep Show??????
You know that Flagpole Sitta is good when Weird Al did it
Record companies and labels have arguably ruined music.
Peep Show
PeepShow
This band kept The Urge out of the top spot with their hit “Jump Right In”.
In my opinion. They were.
They would have been better off a decade later as "Hipster Indie" but basically jumped the gun.
Better band than their single.
They were a couple years too late and not enough promotion.
You posted the same video 8 months ago with a different title.
Why does the audio disappear at the end?
This is the second crap upload of this on UA-cam.
Yet you’re watching it
@@rnrtruestories Tried to. Tried.
I low key though they were British
Sounds like the group was a little too up their own asses to garnish proper monetary success as a band.
Never heard of her
her?
DERP
The band broke up
Who cares about the band Harvey Danger, I wanna know what happened to the band Harvey Milk. Those guys are better than the Melvins
I thought this was Ben Folds five until just a few years ago
This crack is abit more-ish
The band not make music nomore
late 90's yea this band is the epitome of how far music talent had fallen in only a few short years.
fast forward to today we have total garbage "music".
early to mid 90's began the decline off great music to the garbage we have now.
always hated this song.
My Question to "Whatever Happened" is why do you care?
Why would anyone care? 😂
In short, all their other songs were mid at best
Flagpole Sitta is the theme tune for the British sitcom Peep Show.
Great song along with "Sad Sweetheart of the Rodeo".
