People have explained French seam to me, but this demo makes it all real and do able. Thanks. Also, dang, your covid hair is much much cuter than my covid hair. I look like the guy running the dungeon in Princess Bride, or maybe Keith Richards if he moisturized.
Oh my god that is THE FUNNIEST THING I’VE READ TODAY 😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣
Hello!
I'm Valérie and i'm french. I love your way of teaching with so much fun and Rob!!!
A french seam is an "english seam" in France.
I'm waiting now for another funny and great lessons.
Bye bye
YES MA'AM!! Stay on the good foot and keep it up!!! Give the variety of all those gorgeous skin colors, shapes and sizes! Heck ya!
Yes, representation matters! We have beautiful humans beings of all shades and sizes, and that's why sewing is so much fun! Love your videos and Rob's reaction to your dress in this one was lovely.
Love the blush Rob has...just like when my husband gets a little excited by what he sees xxxx
This dress is Ka-ute!! Baayyybeee he was NOT trying to talk! LOL I love ya'll Also, I love how you explain things. It really helps!!
So so pretty! I think ditching the top button was a good design choice too.
I have to say that I love a French seam!! And, once again, you have given us a clear, concise tutorial ( with wit and comic asides)!! ❤️
😁thankya Nancy! Sometimes I have to physically restrain myself from the comic asides 😅
You and Rob is so lovely couple!! I love your personality!! Stay blessed🙏
Thank you 💗!
Oh YAY! I love these videos so much, I had to give it a like before I even started watching!
And, "after" comments: I really need to work on my French seams, but my machine l-o-v-e-s to eat the floaty fabrics (and the knits, unfortunately) so I need to figure out a trick to overcome that little snag. Maybe my machine needs an adjustment? Maybe I need to just bite the bullet and get a walking foot? Use iron-on interfacing? Or... all of the above? 🤦
Do you have a straight Stitch throat plate? It's the one with just a single hole, not an oval for a zigzag. Also, a little tissue paper under, next to feed dogs helps. Tried and true tips. Hth 😁😙
A really easy way to stop your fabric disappearing down into the needleplate is to just put a piece of paper underneath your fabric before you start or end a seam. I find tissue paper works well, but even a scrap of ordinary printer paper does the trick. It's worth a try.
I second and third both Judi and Jane’s tips! Tissue paper works beautifully if you don’t have a straight stitch plate. Have you tried a super thin needle? I like a Schmitz microtex (“sharp”) 70/10 for fine fabrics, it pierces the fabric even more than a universal needle does.
Get a small piece of fabric, fold is over at least once, place it under the presser foot, sew to the end, sew a couple of stitches and place your project close to your folded piece and continue to sew right onto your project. Do this everything you sew a new seam. It's like chain stitching. You will never have to worry about your project going into the little hole.
Your energy is ridiculously fun! OMG! I should watch you more. You exude so much happy. Thank yoU!! I can't sew to save my life but I can watch you all day. :D
I’m biased but YES I think you should absolutely watch us more 😜
Oh and great tips for starting and ending seams with fine fabric - it is so fiddly. Thank you
I LOOOVE the dress! It came out great! t's so fun and floaty! It's very you! Good job Rob!
So much to say. Representation must continue, we cannot go back now, there is only forwards. Brave, very brave letting rob choose, would not be that brave myself. Absolutely love the dress. Now you have made "Robs" dress, I think you can go and make your own with all the sleevy puffiness and lengthy lovelyness :)
Love the finished product! So feminine! The lapels are a very sweet detail!
NO....you are not stupid!! You are a total delight to watch 🥰
I'm all in for all the puns and jokes!! Your videos are great learning tools and very entertaining. I'm like a kid in a candy store when I see that you have a new video. Already looking forward to the next one!
You guys are too cute! Love the dress. I am completely UA-cam taught at sewing (for years now) and dabble a bit here and there. This seam is new to me and has been intimidating until now. Thank you for making it easy. Now I can open my sewing arsenal to new projects. That dress is really cute too!
Thank you! It’s really such an easy seam. Actually one of the first I sewed, since my first machine only did a straight stitch!
You are an excellent instructor. I had no problem in following you. 🙏🏻
Great tutorial and the dress is lovely. I sew French seams on all my rayons, and other lightweights. It's such a nice finished look, along with a Hong Kong and they are not hard at all. Just a wee bit of time is all. And yes, representation is important. A woman told me once..'I like to think of humanity as a big tossed salad, you can't just have iceberg lettuce. You need your carrots, cucs, onions, tomatoes, olives, etc to make it interesting and flavorful.'
Super cute, I loved those colors on your complexion, so flattering. I'm not a huge fan of smaller prints, but it fit the dress well.
Great job! Rob made a good choice. It looks good on you
You are just so amazing and the tutorial was great. I never understood the french seam, but you made it very easy to understand. I will be using it as my inside finishing from now on! Thank you Marcy!
I am SO happy to hear that! I learned this seam early on, because I only had a straight stitch, and I wanted the insides clean. It’s an extra step, but really so easy!
Great fabric, great pattern and an amazing tutorial on the classic French seam.
Steps leading up to a vest tutorial, no?
You two are the best! Thanks for a great tutorial. Lovely dress!
This is too cute on you!! I'm used to doing French seams differently, but I this method is easier. Rob's reaction is adorable! He's happy, but he's also worried that you're happy with his choice for you. Good job, Rob!! Great going you two my first smile of the day as I head to support our soldiers. Thank you BOTH 🥰🥰
How are your French seams made?
@@dale3404 it doesn't involve any ironing but the seams are encased using the seam allowance
Love your style! Stumbled on you when I saw a Crafty video...so happy I did❤️
What a lovely couple, and what a lovely dress!!! I have the pattern already and was looking for inspiration, you just gave me the motivation to try a floral print fabric as well.
The dress turn out fabulous! I especially like the way you left the first button lay down. Dave would’ve of had a fit.
The dress has a warm sunny look like your hair. Beautiful!
Marcy is hyper? Nooooo, say it aint so! LOL
Rob might want view A and that's cool. But you can also make the other view later on with some other fabric.
Well well well! Rob, you did just fine picking out the type of dress, with the type of fabric and colors. Marcy looks great in it! Ya done good, the both of you! 👍 😍 👗
So... I didn’t find that fabric but... I found this gorgeous sage double gauze, which I’ve never worked with before. Wish me luck.
I love your dress! How fun! You look fabulous in it and Rob did a great job picking out the pattern and fabric. Love those French seams! You are adorable !😍
😊🥰thank you Patricia!
I just want to thank you so much! I'm 13 years old & you inspiered me to make my own dress even though i thought I couldn't it turned out great! I even ended making my 5 year old sister a fun rainbow dress, and I'm in the middle of making my 8 year old sister a romper thanks to you! THANK YOU SO SO MUCH for inspiring me, your the greatest! (Also excuse if I spelled anything worng, I'm not the strongest speller.)
I loved reading every bit of this! Your sisters are so lucky. At the rate you’re going, you’ll have a technicolor family closet by the new year. Keep stitching Ava 💗!
@@handmadeharriells Deffinately!
Love that Rob loves it so much... So nice that you have a partner who wants to be involved. It really looks great. love the French seam tutorial. Have a happy summer with your new sun dress. How many fish did Rob catch? I didn't see him carry them in. Have a good fish dinner.
Just stumbled onto your channel. Love the dress, hubby has a good eye. Loved the pattern when I first saw it. You are funny, got yourself a new subie!
🖤💚 love the material and pattern on you, so fun and summery
Love, love, love it. So much so, I bought the pattern online. Once I receive it, I'll be at Madame Joanns !! Alone... lol
✌
The dress looks beautiful on you!
#1. Love seeing more people who don’t look like me on patterns and everywhere. Makes the world a better place. #2. Learned French seams making pillowcases. Might be easier to begin on a cotton fabric that isn’t so flowy. #3. The style is so flattering on you, Marcy! Hope you and Rob get to take the dress out in public really soon. Stay well!
It looks beautiful! Fun collaboration.
I was just searching the other day French seams. Thank you. I love how you went through the process. PS....I love your Wit with the “ she said”. That’s mine & Hubbys favorite saying. Lol.
Rob picked a nice color...the dress is nice. I like the way you fixed your hair. Can't wait to see your next video. Did Rob catch any fish???
Love a French seem and I looooooooove the dress!!!!!
Thank you for the great explanation! You look amazing! I love the dress on you!
You make doing this look very easy. I have not been successful with french seams, I am going to try it again, your way. 😂
Your hair is gorgeous. Thank you for the tutorial.
I absolutely love this dress. I'm thinking about getting the pattern And re doing a lot of it to fit me because my sizing is a bit strange. Your explanation of French seams is spot-on. I hope people do a whole lot more of them because they really are nice and leave such a nice clean Edge
They really are sooooo easy. I like the pattern too, it sewed up simply (and, I was bad and didn’t even mark my notches 😬). I think I’d do some sizing adjustments myself next time!
Now I need to try French seams! I've done flat felled seams, but never French seams.
I love the dress too! I know you tend to gravitate towards the bolder colors and patterns, but the pink flower pattern looks really good on you too. Super cute pattern. I think I need to get it and make a few of these dresses in different colors, maybe make one with the long sleeves but have them slashed/open, just for fun.
Good choice, Rob!
Great tutorial and absolutely gorgeous dress!
You are the best, Marcy!
I wish I had you as a teacher in 7th grade when we had Home Economics class. I love your teaching methods.
Beautiful!!! Just Beautiful!!!
Wait...did I miss a covered button tutorial? Amazing! I would love to see you make it into a maxie!!!
Ish! I realized we didn’t pick out buttons, and you know, I couldn’t change the designer’s vision 😅. I covered some plain brown buttons I had in my stash, I could do a quick tutorial!
Uh oh. Rob, RUN!!
Right down to Joann's and *do it again!*
Great job, Marcy 😁
The French Seam is to seams, as the Invisible Zipper is to zippers. Unbeatable. And not as difficult as one might think.
Love the dress. And you are adorable. I want to make the maxi view myself!
I will watch this again and and try, thank you
LOVE your rambunctiousness! Beautiful 😻
YES! Rambunctious, THAT'S the perfect word for Marcy's personality. ⭐
😁😁😁it’s truly one of my favorite words
Beautiful Ms. Marcy!
It turned out really cute! Love the little lapels!!! What a great thing to wear on a hot day!!!
Simply stunning.
Great summertime dress!
Love you guys so much! You truly brighten my day
You look gorgeous in that dress! 😭❤️
❤️ it! You make me smile! The 👗 dress is delightful. The “Mr” has great taste!
🧵Sew fun! Thanks 😊.
He did pretty good! I wasn’t sold on the dress until I put it on when he texted me 🤣🤣🤣
You just made my day,,,thanks, love the dress. I can sew quilts, but not clothes...
Very pretty dress. Thank you for sharing.
Thank you! This video was fun and informative, as usual! ❤
Love how this turned out. I was concerned with the lack of vibrancy in the fabric but it sure does look great on you. Great choices by Rob!
Marcy I cannot believe I found you in the series manifest. You weren't playing the mother of two little boys I kept staring at you thinking I know her I know her and then I started searching and digging and I found you that was so amazing never realized you were actually an actress besides a seamstress you go girl
😁😁my favorite thing is when a sewist spots
my “alter ego”!
Thank you so much for this demonstration! I love your channel!!!
You’re so welcome, and thank you!
Marcy, you are adorable and your HAIR is darling. Now, sewing, so glad I can watch you sew some rayon. Hmmm.
You look STUNNING!!
😊😊😊thankya David!
Very nice job! Well done. And my fave part is that the Harriells are so crazy about each other.
What a great tutorial, and your finished product is fabulous! So feminine and summery. I hope you feel like a million bucks (adjusted for inflation) when you wear it - you sure look like it.
How fun! Love the sense of JOY you bring with your presentations!
I just watched your mask video before coming to your most recent. Y'all are so cute together. I love the dress and your earrings. I think the color really does go well with your complexion.
Beautiful dress 😍 I am going to try the French seam you made it look so easy. Love the videos I appreciate all you do! You are beautiful inside and out. Thanks for making me smile😀 love you guys♥️
I look forward to your videos! You have a wonderful personality! and you are as cute as a button!
😊well thankya Pam! I’m so glad you’re enjoying these !
You are beautiful! Love the dress and your hair is gorgeous!
Great Job!!!🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻
By Rob’s reaction to the dress, I bet it was on the floor pretty soon after he got back! 😉😉
Hahahahaaaaaa !!!! We try to keep it pg 😅
You two work very well together. Beautiful Dress!!
Another excellent video 👍🏼🌺❤️
This is a really nice detailed overview, I like the trick with the marking of the trimmed seam allowance!
I tend to start all my seams in that offset way these days (unless I'm just tying off the ends to begin with). Just to be safe I guess, plus it cuts down on bulk and is neater... :-)
... I made teeny French seams by hand once. That's the sort of thing you do when you need to kill time when commuting for more than an hour each way. :D
Oh MAN. Now that’s a good way to kill some time. That’s like, some Jedi level time killing right there 💯!
@@handmadeharriells It took me maybe a month to make a Regency chemise that way. Definitely a good way to kill time. :D (And then several years later I realised I should have flat-felled my seams instead...)
I love your tutorials so much! I always learn something new. I have some lovely cotton lawn ill be using this seam technique on.
Loving that French Seam!!!
Love the dress!!! But... I'm with you, some puffy sleeves would have been great!!! I love watching your videos. I know I am going to walk away with a smile!!! Thank you!!
That makes *me* smile. Thank you! I’m definitely doing this pattern again with puff sleeves (and maybe maxi-fication....)
Wicked cute!!
Gorgeous ♥️♥️♥️
So fun!! Thank you!
Thank you so much for the shoutout to adversity! Loving your channel!
Other than a bit of math ( horrors) a French seam looks pretty easy! Never knew what it was
Sooooo easy!!! And you can avoid the math if you draw your seam line in and divide it up by eye 🤓
Love your videos ♡♡♡
Hi Marcy, I just watched Manifest! You are so talented!
Oh thankya Anne!
You look beautiful.
Beautiful robe beautiful and nice woman great French seam.
Thank you
Absolutely LOVE the lapels. Question: is a French seam just used for aesthetics or is it stronger! Like a backup seam if the outer one rips.
It’s both! Stronger and pleasing. Like the Charmin of seams or something 🙃
