Amazing Mr. Dove You are not only a perfumer, but also a poet as well. Even Wordsworth wouldn't have been in a position to provide such a beautiful categorization of perfume lovers and personalities. No wonder that you are such a great and creative perfumer. Mr. Dove you are undoubtedly a gift to quality perfume lovers.

Roja is so knowledgeable and eloquent that I could listen to him talk about perfume all day. That being said, on this instance I'm afraid I won't be following his advice. I'm an EXTREMELY SHY person and there is nothing glamorous, opulent or extravagant about the way I present myself. BUT I adore orientals with a passion. I never wear florals or Chypres: I don't like to smell like flowers and Chypres are way too dry for me. I need vanilla, spices, resins, woods, tobacco, gourmand notes,... Orientals are so rich, comforting and evocative. Please, Roja! Allow us, shy people, this one instance of opulence and excess!

I would say, although you are an extremely shy person to the outside world, you know what you want and you are happy to stake your place in getting it. I think you have elements of what he talked about inside of you.. perfume is a beautiful way to reflect ourselves to ourselves, and represent our self to others, regardless of what we are wearing. I think Mr Dove would be happy for us to apply our own poetic license to what he is saying, but equally if you disagree with what he is expressing here I am sure he would be fine with that too xx

Wear what you want! That is the best way to reflect your taste and complexity while taking care of your own well-being. If some one think that you should do anything else, because you don't fit into their imagery of you or the three types of humankind, well then they are the ones who " ... needs to reflect".

You sound exactly like someone who works on my team who loves Sultanate of Oman. There's no sweetness, it's all Frankincense and Aoud on a totally dry, woody, smoky base. The Raspberry and Citrus in the blend are just a touching of it, just to stop it from being too dry that it's overwhelming. Rx

I don't think you got your answer. Unless "someone who works in Roja Doves team" is a personality type ... You just got a recommendation of a perfume that contains what you wrote you liked. So unless you are a seducer or Don Juan you shouldn't wear the recommended perfume according to Roja Dove's own systematisation ... I guess if you don't fit in to one of the three personality types you shouldn't wear perfume at all?

Oriental woody fragrances certainly my favorite. Since I'm a Leo they must stand right out like no other very commanding and regal and most of all exotic. Christoph Raynaud did a very impressive job with L'ature that won me over straight away, I haven't tried any of yours yet quite curious actually. I've actually been working on a few projects myself. I was creating an oriental fougere but now I'm thinking the coumarin accord might have to be scratched the anethole and linalyl acetate accords work like a charm together but I'm thinking maybe more earthier notes could be a better replacement which means an entirely new fragrance altogether maybe tumeric, carrot seed and nutmeg yeah that accord works. I'm babbling on now break time I think.

    • @rojadove4680

The best way is to have other people check for you. Whilst lower-quality perfumes tend not to last as long because the materials used aren't as great, even with really strong fragrances, we can become so used to them that we can become "nose blind" to them. So have someone smell your wrist and see if they can smell the beauty you are seemingly missing out on. Further, perhaps switching up your scent every other day or so, might enable you to be more alert to the differences in smell? Let me know how you get on. Rx

Hey, I know I'm two years late lol, but one tip is to make sure you have moisturized skin where you apply the perfume! So apply vaseline or a moisturizer just before spraying your perfume. Another tip is to spray on your hair, it lasts longer there than on your skin (though do take the fact that there's a lot of alcohol in perfume into consideration, so it might dry your hair out a bit).

I am a bit confused...by your description I sound like the 2nd type of woman - no compromises etc...but I like perfumes which have a mix of floral (mainly lavender, orange blossom ) and citrusy notes (mainly mandarin or orange)...it's the latter that draw me in to a perfume though.
    Does that fit with chypre?

Here's one very important thing you missed: Culture!
I realized something super acceptable in one country is straight up offensive in a different one. Personality styles differ as well from country to country. For example in UAE even kids wear Oud/Amber whereas in the west a 20 something wearing the same will get weird looks. In Japan anything beyond citrus is unacceptable. Could you do a video on that please?

I like your revealing question and examples, but you are demanding to much nuance of a person that is clearly self-absorbed in fitting people into boxes. E.g. the similarities of the personality type of one wearing orientals and orientalist fantasies.

I guess if you don't fit in to one of the three personality types you shouldn't wear perfume? And if you are capable of being fresh and easygoing while wearing understated tailoring and might be wanting to grab attention and interest from some people you should layer, or maybe confine some of your personality traits the day you a wearing a certain perfume. In that way the perfume will better reflect your image ... An awkwardly constrained personality, that lacks confident and awareness of own taste and wellbeing and therefore lets it self being guided by simplistic typology.
