You know Matt, I gotta be honest. Most youtubers that I watch make me feel very bad about myself. And I know they don't do it intentionally, but it just happens. However, whenever I watch your videos I just get filled up with this warmth, kindness and motivation for life. You really show us the true you, you're very honest and transparent and you're not afraid to show your ups and downs. I really admire that and it just brings so much joy to me. I hope to meet you one day and thank you personally for the positive impact that you've had on my life. Thank you so so so much for just being you. ❤️
100% this. Eventough I'm not immediately interested in the topic Matt talks about, I just watch because I know that his video's never fail to make me feel good :)
A couple of notes on this video: 1. I loved it since the beginning when Natalie say 'no, they don't. Nobody calls you that'. 2. Matt really doesn't spare money on buying repeated clothes. 3. Matt is incredibly good at taping and editing videos. It is impressive how much work it took for him to put so many different clothes on just to show us his outfit, and then edit and merge all the shoots to create a concise and coherent video for us to enjoy. Congratulations, Matt!
My clothes are basically all from Uniqlo. I find them simple, affordable, and comfortable. My shoes are from new balance since middle school. I am a major fan, they are the most comfortable shoes I have ever tried. I really love the idea of a minimalist wardrobe spreadsheet. Gonna try writing one tonight. Love your videos!!!
I’m in my 40s and fashion was of a competitive nature ever since high school. When we were at our lockers in the morning we would actually see who was wearing the most money. New outfits everyday and making sure that you didn’t repeat for a while. It’s been that way ever since. You couldn’t imagine what my closet looks like. But things have changed since covid. I’ve been selling and giving away for the past couple of years. Priorities changed and I’ve been working my way towards a full clean out. Minimalist & slow living. Videos like this are a good confidence boost.
I liked the spreadsheet, I'll have to make one up for myself. I liked the idea of simply reordering the same thing, that you already know worked well for you in the past. For some reason, when a clothing item has run it's course, I never just automatically reorder the same item but feel the need to try and replace it with something else. It really helps to make sure you stick with brand's staple pieces, rather than go for whatever is trending that season.
Really love the minimalist wardrobe videos. I really have to make a spreadsheet for myself. Matt your intros are awesome, i can't imagine anyone eles pulling these kind of intros off 😅
I've been following you for about 3 years now... I must say, your consistency is inspiring... - Time invested - Quality of Videos - Quality of content Nice King
What you say at the end about inspiring is interesting as I've known you since 2018 and you gave me a prespective on life with minimalism and these days I'm rewatching your videos and you inspire me Matt, thanks for everything.
Your recommendation of J.Crew Factory t-shirts years ago was kind of a game changer for me... I'm a small dude who always has a hard time finding clothes that fit, and they ended up being freaking perfect (XS slim fit). And your closet looking like that of a cartoon character gave me permission to do the same lol.
When I was 17 or so I thought wow this guys life is so Organized, I want mine too be just like his. Now I think „this guy keeps an excel for his wardrobe? .. tf“
Quality, humor and consistency. Gotta love this channel! Also, I'd never heard of pockets within pockets. I feel like I'm missing out on some cool secret, but it's probably something that only some men's clothes have. Jealous!
This is nice, but nearly all the brands make you replace them every year or so. I’d recommend American Giant’s t shirts, 1620 foundation pants or Revtown jeans, a solid pair of boots (Nicks or Whites) and an all around shoe (samba). Add a Carhartt Detroit jacket or a thicker jacket from Carhartt or Patagonia hemp workwear. These will last YEARS! Get an automatic dress watch (cheaper per wear) than a piece of tech that goes outdated in 1-2 years.
Here's what I did to simplify my clothing: there is a concept called "capsule wardrobe" which helps you create a minimalistic wardrobe. If you know how to create that and if you know which color season you belong to and only wear those colors, you actually can create a basics wardrobe that suits you and isn't all white, grey and black. Knowing your color season is simple, just check if your skin is warm or cooled toned and if it has high or low chroma (forget about hair and eye color, those are a myth). You will ALWAYS look good on that group of colors and since all the colors belong to the same color season, everything you put together will match, so decision fatigue also does not happen. Knowing your color season and buying clothes with just those colors (usually you choose 3 neutrals and 2-3 accent colors, all from that season), you can pretty much mix and match everything and not have a wardrobe that looks like a bar code ahah. Example: I'm an autumn, I have warmed toned skin and low chroma, my neutrals are charcoal/warm black, tans and off whites and warm browns, while the accents I choose are teal blue, rust and army green. I also have some red and mustard yellow hoodies, but I almost only wear those colors. Then, all you need to do is to buy basic, timeless and simple pieces of clothing in those colors.
Tbh I love minimalist wardrobes. I've started to only buy block colored versatile tshirts and good quality jeans. I've also got a pair of white Sneakers which completes the fit.

I started being more intentional about what I buy clothes wise since I travel for work now. I definitely made a list of things that look good, but can be paired with just about everything else in my closet. I don't try to specifically limit what I have, but I very much agree with the intent of the purchase before going through with it.
So good!! I feel like you shared such good reasons for why you own what you do. A lot of wardrobe shares don't do that, and for those us trying to downsize, it's great to keep in mind the reasons we want to own a certain item. So thanks, Matt! Will share with my husband and will also keep your tips in mind for my own downsizing.
Thank you Matt for your great content. I am an admirer of your work from pakistan. It is very helpful and it has impacted my choices for good. It would be great if you could make videos regarding of some topics like 1- how do you manage your hygiene minimally like (managing haircuts and beard , skincare, shaving etc) 2- how do you manage your home (groceries and supplies , laundry ) 3- how do you manage your office like finding people, how do you pay them etc

Definitely the bad boy of minimalism i learned minimalism because of this channel now my shirts are all black even my jordans are black and white only and levis pants also
Great video, wished I could buy some of those items as the womans version, but of course most of the time they only have other not half as simple and useful hoodies then. As a woman I sometimes feel cut off minimalism in this style cos its all cropped or colored or oversized etc. So it is much more already designed for you to buy more "special" stuff as its much more difficult to find just "normal" simple clothing. So just in case you ever consider to find like the women version of your wardrobe and do a video with that I imagine a lot of women would be really happy 🙂

Love your sense of style Matt. I like the fact that you have multiple pieces of each item. One thing I’ve noticed is occasionally I’ll end up with only clean pieces that are in the same shade, say gray. Not a good look! Multiple pieces solves this problem.
If you have a spreadsheet for your clothing you must have a pretty peaceful life and so much free time. Which is nice! My new life goal is to have a so satisfying life that I will have spreadsheet for my wardrobe :)
Hey matt. I've been watcihing your videos over a week now. Im from Philippines. Matt. I’m a disciple of yours. You changed my life about two and a half years ago. Thx for that ❤ I have been on the hunt for the best T-shirts for a long time, for some reason your J.Crew ones just don’t do it for me but about a year ago I discovered western rise x-cotton t’s. TRY THEM!! They even have the matt D’Avella Grey 🥹
Omg I want to wear the same T-shirt everyday, but I feel a little shy about they people will think, I know, I shouldn’t care about what people think. But I still do. Also I live in Wisconsin which is super cold 🥶 and more jackets/ sweaters are needed. But for the past 3 years I really pay attention to clothes I buy. Thank you for the inspiration.
For those looking for durable belts, hit up Truth Belts. They make belts from recycled car tires and are ridiculously durable. I've had my belt for around 8 years and it looks as good as a two month old leather belt. It's amazing.
Really liked your wardrobe. I’m also considering reducing my clothes and switching to a minimalist style. The great thing about this is also no matter how you mix and match them they look good for all occasions. 🫡
Haven't watched the whole video, but when it comes to minimalist style the best advice is stick to timeless classics: A well fitted T-shirt, suit coat, bomber jacket, chinos, wool trousers, V Neck sweater, Oxford dress shoes, white leather sneakers, derby boots etc. These classics are things that will never go out of style and you will never change out unless they wear out; so don't go cheap and take care of your clothes.
For those who want the BEST QUALITY basics that are truly Buy-It-For-Life items, please check out Rag And Bone! In my opinion (as a non-minimalist fashion enthusiast) they have minimal staples with JUST A TOUCH of edge and use super super high quality materials, but also have a LIFETIME guarantee for their items - if they start pilling or deforming or rip at all, you can send them back and they will repair/replace them for you. Super pricey but MUCH higher quality than stuff like J Crew or Lulu. Def recommend Rag and Bone if you want to go for designer-level quality without the flash and gaudiness.

Really love your videos Matt! The way you treat the most daily tasks of the day it is simply inspiring. I also find stressful choosing my clothes, taking into account that you need to combine the colours, choose certain patterns or find the appropriate tonality. Sometimes you just want to wake up and get into the job and, by having preselected clothing, you can just recognise the appropriate clothes by looking at the weather or the place you are going to.
I love all your videos! Do an updated digital minimalist video soon please! What’s on your phone, computer, backups, etc! 😊 Add this to your minimalism playlist too please! 😬
I ordered a pair of Nothing New sneakers just to see how they are. Now, they are my everyday sneaks, I love them! Durable, incredibly well built and comfortable. They are a lot more expensive than the classic Chuck Taylor's, but totally worth it! In case you want to replace your Stan Smiths, take a look at these.

Great video. Below are ideas to further minimize your wardrobe. Suggestion for your next pair of jeans: Levi’s 501 Original Slim Taper Fit. Suggestions when you need new shirts: J. Crew’s Baird McNutt Irish linen button-downs (linen shirts are much more durable than cotton). Suggestions for sneakers: Allbirds Everyday Sneakers or runners in white (NZ Merino and can be washed in a machine). Limit your wardrobe to white sneakers (Allbirds runners are designed to be versatile for everyday wear and travel), solid color t-shirts (particularly black, but no more than black, white, navy), the darkest blue or black Levi’s 501 Slim Taper jeans, navy chino trousers and chino shorts + light-blue and lavender button ups or button-downs and khaki chino trousers/shorts plus white button-up or button-downs (because monochromatic and classic dress shirt colors look best), a pair of Oxford dress shoes, and a pair of loafers. Limit jackets to a Levi’s dark denim jacket and J. Crew’s Irish linen/cotton blazers. The chino shorts look sharp if above the knee and since chinos were originally popularized for military use, chino shorts are versatile enough for the gym, jogging, etc.
Like this video very much. Have to try it out too😂 for me now I’m using only about 10% of my clothing, but I do buy brands very cheap in high quality and sell them if not wearing.
Love when Natalie makes her appearances ! Matt, you need to wear your button down shirts and waffle Henleys more often. They REALLY look great on you ! You are a cool handsome man, own it dude !!
I wish we had those shirts here. But for now, the Uniqlo shirts are doing their jobs for me. Bought them 4yrs ago and I'm seeing signs that I might need to update/replace these set already, soon.

always pushing me to make better videos. Thank you, sir! 💪🏻

The chino shorts look sharp if above the knee and since chinos were originally popularized for military use, chino shorts are versatile enough for the gym, jogging, etc.
what chinos and T-shirts do you recommend?
Like this video very much. Have to try it out too😂 for me now I’m using only about 10% of my clothing, but I do buy brands very cheap in high quality and sell them if not wearing.
Love when Natalie makes her appearances !
Matt, you need to wear your button down shirts and waffle Henleys more often. They REALLY look great on you ! You are a cool handsome man, own it dude !!

Can’t wait to see the Apple Watch content!!
I wish we had those shirts here. But for now, the Uniqlo shirts are doing their jobs for me. Bought them 4yrs ago and I'm seeing signs that I might need to update/replace these set already, soon.
I’m glad this bad boy of minimalism has bestowed his wisdom upon us

Glad you’re still making minimalism videos
Minimalism as a flex to show how little stuff you have and how Spartan you life with is dead.
Minimalism in focusing on what's important is very much alive 🙌

It’s funny how with the right amount of creativity and gear you can literally shoot a gap commercial in your spare room these days. I’m just glad no one had mentioned biceps yet 😂

I am a maximalist but also a jeans/shorts/tee guy. Since I've not tried any of those staples in your list, I bought a variety of each. I need a 12-step program.
Matt, I’ve been watching you for so many years, its kinda crazy to see you in a green hoodie 😂😂
Love the new/refreshed video style!
Great vid Matt. I would love to see something from Nat - if she’s good with it. She wears such cute clothes.
I miss Country Road. I live in London now so we don't have it here, their stuff is so basic but the quality is top-notch 👌🏽
In Europe I would recommend Girav T-Shirts from Holland. They have skinny regular and tall to extra tall
Love the new music and edits in the newest videos.
you could replace (when they are all wore out) for patagonia clothing, it would match you philosophy best.
I loved the video, I remember that the first one you made of your wardrobe was one of the first I saw on the channel and you inspired me, thank you really thank you for existing matt, minimalist hug.
