I like seeing budget and student priced pencils being reviewed….these days I am colouring adult colouring books and not drawing too much, so it’s great to see people reinforcing that budget brands can achieve good results particularly when lightfastness is not an issue. Many hobbyists have a budget for spending on art supplies, and often have to weigh up the “feel good” or fun factor against “results” and your comprehensive reviews could be helpful in making buying decisions 👍
Wonderful to hear, Im glad your enjoying! I’ve been trying to do an art piece with each pencil set on stream at some stage and yeah these budget ones have have done really well. I think once you know the strengths and weaknesses you can compensate and design work that they will shine on☺️💜
I was recommended your video since I've been watching a lot of colored pencil videos lately. I must say, out of everyone in all the videos so far, you're the most stylish! Love the dress! And your production quality is great 👍
Omg! I remember owning The Faber Castell Classic (Red) Series Coloured Pencils and my sister owning the easy grip colour pencils when we were young kids. We were soo excited to get these pencils.
I definitely would like to see you review all the pencils -- even stuff made for students or kids. I have a couple boxes of stuff for kids that I'll use when I'm trying to sort out color schemes & palettes and not wanting to burn thru my fancier & spendier pencils.
Great to know☺️. I wasn’t certain if people would be annoyed or not interested if I was doing cheaper student pencils. The next lot is mostly artist pencils but I’ve snuck the crayolas in there as well to see what they are like☺️ On the classics tho be fair these were better than I thought, I’m just finishing a little art piece with them and they are actually fairly impressive. Budget pencils for the win!💜😂
@@StuffBySunshine My slowly dawning/awakening around art as of late is that we spend a lot of time building up "The Right Materials & Tools" and sometimes miss out on very pleasing and rewarding moments with "lesser" materials and tools that made a lot of extremely happy when we were just kids learning our craft. Anyway -- a long-winded way of saying I'm really enjoying you treat all these pencils to the same feats & tasks and your "are these fun to use" catagory. Fun to Use is a dying art. ;)
the ideal technique with student grade colored pencils is multiple light layers, and I mean a lot of layers. a really a lot of patience layers. white is a blender more than a color, black is for shading. - to create a black, I typicality blend purple and green hues. I see student grade art supplies as making you work harder for it. it's something I have become addicted to. I see it as control verses technique, I would have to write a novel about that point. It also highly depends on the quality of paper. doodle pad paper works ideally with student grade pencils and crayons. it's just those materials don't last after a few years, the paper crumbles and the colors fade. It's not artwork you hang on a wall, as soon as it's finished, photograph it and archive away. never tried the Farber Castell. I'm a huge fan of Crayola.
I remember you saying you liked the crayola and I may have brought some for the next series of tests ☺️. I agree with everything you said above, last Fridays art stream with the classics really impressed me. But that was lots of light layers. I never really considered the lightfast aspect of them tho, but I’ve actually figured out a way to test lightfast so I may put which ever of the student pencils is best in as a reference☺️
@@StuffBySunshine The Tombow markers I use are great and versatile, but the lighfastness is horrible, just a matter of hours in the sun. as soon as I'm done a piece, photograph it and archive it away.
Great review! I really hope your channel grows some, you have such great production quality for such a small channel. Also now that I know "kids" colored pencils are on the table I'm curious about Crayola 😂
Would love to see you review the classic yellow box crayolas as a comparison against these! I grew up using the FC classics, but found they didn’t perform as well as the crayolas, which is what my kids use now. 😊 the crayola signature pencils (in the black tin) are also a really good budget option as well!
The crayola are in my next lot of videos ☺️. Im actually really curious to see how they go as I don’t think I’ve ever used them! Is there a difference between the signature and the normal crayola? I looked at grabbing them and couldn’t find any info if they were the same or not. 💜
Great video! I have the 60 set of these "Classic" primarily for colouring books. Secondary I use them as to doodle. Your review was spot on, very thorough and honest.
Argh I almost brought a set the other day to do next but went for the Derwent Lightfast! I have a few more pencils coming so I’ll add them to the list asap ☺️💜
Well even though the company is from Germany, most of these colour pencils are probably made in Vietnam and for multiple companies there is same manufacturer for these types of pencils . It looks similar to staedler luna colour pencils with the design with change of branding on it , but it may be assumption as for where i live (asia) most of these pencils, even higher quality ones comes from vietnam , but i don't know for Australia though probably to save shipping cost they ship from Vietnam i guess .
I think your probably right particularly for the cheaper side of pencils, there’s a couple of brands I’ve used recently (in budget and mid range pencils) that are exactly the same as another brand just different logos on them. Maybe when I’ve got a few more reviews down I’ll do a hard hitting doco on pencil manufacturing 😂
Funnily enough I have 7 pencils I’ve brought for the next few reviews and one of them is the Kalour ☺️, as soon as I’m back at it I’ll make it like video 3!
I was looking for this. Gosh I've never watched such an amazing and detailed product review!! You're amazing! Maybe you wanna try out some Indian brands of colored pencils? Doms and Brustro! Thank you ❤And you're so beautiful 🥺❤️ Edit: I checked out your website and all your artwork is so cute and beautiful ❤️❤️❤️
Hi Sunshine Wow you really do spark joy 🤩 I am a new subscriber! I am wanting to take up colouring again which I haven’t done since my now adult children were little. Would these be a suitable option to use? I just bought one of Johanna Basford’s gorgeous books & want to make pretty colourful pages to spark some joy of my own. If not do you have any other preference that won’t cost too much? Look forward to many more videos 😍
Thankyou ☺️💜! Well they are very good for there price BUT I actually should have another episode out on Monday (hopefully😂) that is a really good budget choice for colouring that may be better for you (hint 😋🖤)

I wondered that! it did seem an odd thing for them to advertise, but I guess it’s all to give the impression of being super strong. Thankyou☺️slowly slowly!
Most of the faber castell pencils (other than the black edition strangely) should say what they are. Watercolor pencils for faber castell are branded as Albrecht Durer or on the red series have a little tiny brush symbol on them ☺️
I used to think the same about their their packaging. But its only after I actually take drawing seriously (3 seeks ago) that I realized that Faber Castell has genuinely creative packaging style. As for those carton boxes, I still kept all of mine to store my pencils. Its Tidier. (And also pride thing, you know...) I figured when the pencils runs out we can just cut the box and turn it into another drawing/painting. Thats as eco friendly as internets wants it.
Well too be fair thats exactly why I've added the classification ranking at the end of these reviews. This is only the second student pencils we've looked at, but over time we can compare and rank them all. Im aiming to go through every pencil in the world (eventually) so sometimes they are going to be student other times professional. Unless people get sick of them of course 😊💜

You would think they would put the names of the colors on them. Especially being a student pencil.
You'd think so wouldn't you!
They are not that useful for layering, I have them for years now the colours are fadey and not vibrant, and doesn't lay well
