I remember when my Bears making the playoffs after a long drought in the mid-2000s. The media ask one of the players what is the best part of the playoffs. He replied with the extra checks" that when I learned that players only truly get paid during the season.

Love this topic because it's rarely discussed. The win bonus aspect in the playoffs is very intriguing. In the XFL this past season, players had a $1,000 win bonus during the regular season. But 7,000 for a playoff win and then 11,500 for the championship game. Players and coaches openly talked about the bonuses being added motivation to win.

It seems more and more common to hear of controversies surrounding younger players wanting long term deals (like most recently Dak and Jamal Adams). Doesn't 4 or 5 years seem like too long a time to have to keep star players on cheap rookie contracts? 3 years sounds more reasonable.

But the folks around them don't want to hear that as they want more money. Then when the money dries up, they are gone. It is hard to build wealth when people are so dependent upon one person to be the savior instead of each person getting up doing something to greatly increase the chances that their life will improve and support each other.

This was a good video. It also explains why Tom Brady is willing to take less money leaving money to sign other players. He knows that by winning not only in the regular season but in the playoffs and super bowl he's going to make his money back. Plus the more he wins the the more endorsements he's going to get.

    • @Mulatto4Yeshua

Facts...that's why I credit Brady more for the dynasty they had in NE. It's not necessarily what's he's done on the field (though he's no doubt an all-time great) and not to take away from the genius of Belichik. Belichik carried Brady early on with the defenses he fielded but the discounts Brady always took enabled Belichik to construct what he wanted on his terms to be good, year in year out. If Brady asks for his market value every contract, IMO I don't see the yearly SB contention playing out like it did. Then again, people can certainly be justified if they think the opposite.

    • @floridagator1765
      @floridagator1765 3 роки тому +1

Belichik AND the Patriot organization were extremely fortunate Brady didn't get top QB value during his prime playing years. He sacrificed some of his personal money to keep OR sign better players AND keep winning. The Pats were competitive during Brady's 20 year run. Giselle's money is great BUT it's not like he was getting paid one million dollars a season. The QB is the highest paid player on MOST NFL teams. He was compensated pretty good. REGARDLESS. He's not hurting. He wants to win. REGARDLESS. This is one reason he is the GOAT!

And they have to deal with those injuries for the rest of their lives, and the shock of now what do I do? But for the average person who gets paid every two weeks, the Friday before you get paid and you have $1.31 left and nothing to eat, can’t understand how NFL players go broke.

There are players making 35 million. Is that player got paid every game 2.187 million would be his check roughly before-tax. If that player got paid every other game 4.375 million dollars again before tax . Now imagine getting $20,000 you would have paid more in tax weekly then that check would be worth if it was still 20,000 even if it's $200,000 you get a tenth of what you normally would get and would still be five times higher more than actually then the average American's salary to put that into context if you made minimum wage at $15 how excited would you be if you showed up in the check was $1.5 hour. I don't care how much money you make if you get the big dollars you negotiated correctly and position yourself well and hope and pray you don't get hurt because you're learning window at Max would be 20 years I think that's where Tom is so that is doable but most likely you will see 5 years and never see those numbers unless here in Rogers Russell Wilson Dak Prescott is close to he signed that franchise tag for 31 million for some added context which wasn't really needed but in case somebody wanted to have the numbers crunched for them to something that they would recognize

I didn't learn anything from this.
You see mahomes signing $500,000,000 contract over 10 years. That's best case scenario.
What would ge most likely make? Even a player who has a say, $6,000,000 signing bonus..They don't always get all the sudden 6 million just like that. Or average salary of so many million a year.
You see their net worth, it would seem they should have 50 million after so many years, but only worth about 13 mil.

signing bonuses are paid up front. no matter how big or small. except roster bonus, that kicks in the day they make the 52 man roster

    • @marcustimoteo1334

Thats because net worth does not equate to the amount you bring home. Your net worth is total amount of your assets minus debt. Just because you make $100K yr does not mean you are worth 100K. you pay bills, spend money on groceries, etc. Your net worth is the value of assets (minus cost/debt).

Except you left out the most important part being that them damn checks are literally THOUSANDS UPON THOUSANDS and in alot of cases in the NFL with MILLIONS upon MILLIONS for them weeks which is ALL the difference compared uhhh let me think, mostly the rest of us all out here which means it's extremely EASY to LIVE comfortably where you absolutely don't have to worry about damn struggling or LITERALLY with anything for that matter including taxes unless you're just stupid as hell and HORRIBLE with money which is just bad for you and at that point you're screwed either way!

This video just confused me more. But let me ask you this, let’s take Watsons new 250ML deal that’s fully guaranteed right let’s say Watson plays a year an decides to retire dose Watson still get that money ? If yes how like they say he here’s 5ML per year until we pay you off or here’s a 500K week? Like how does that work ? Also does the taxes get took out then you get ur check ? Also let’s say someone gets a signing bonus for 25ML does that mean they get that 25ML right then in their? If you can maybe explain all this, that would be great. Also why do NFL players need agents ? Let’s say I’m a guy like joe burrow right, an I say hey I want 50ML per year like Patrick mahomes why would I need a agent to say that ? I’m sure NFL players can say he I want this much Fully guaranteed I want this this and that right ?
