who’s watching in 1951? cant believe this movie came out 10 years ago!
I'm here in 1941, looking forward to watching it in cinema
What's a "Movie"? The only form of entertainment right now are Shakespearean plays, in the middle ages.
abbey Has it been ten years already?
its already 1951 !... oh how quickly the time moves.
you have a good internet provider
People need to realize that Orson Welles was 25 when he made this movie. 25! And its still hailed as the greatest movie ever made, now thats a legacy to be proud of.
He doesn't sound like 25 either, like 10 years older. People aged quicker at that time it seems.
I think that at that time 25 was not so young respect to now.
He peaked at 25, and it was downhill from there

Today's, trailers show you the entire movie and leave you with no anticipation. Seriously, Wells was even a creative genius over his trailers.
What's creative and genius about this?I'm genuinely asking.
Today? You mean 10 years ago? :D
@@DensilGrant It was ahead of its time, and I'm talking about the trailer. Maybe not genius but definitely creative and original for it hadn't been done like this before.
@@DensilGrant For one thing there wasn't a single shot from the actual movie.

Orson Welles truly ahead of his time. He was the hemingway of his time, some would say quite literally "a" hemingway.
Orson Welles was actually good friends with Ernest Hemingway
@@elk4588
They were both noisily pro-Republican in the Spanish Civil War, yet spent long periods in Spain after 1945 under the so-called fascist dictatorship of Franco. As with Sartre and De Beauvoir, a low cost of living made up for a lot.
Except Wells directed the film, Herman Mankiewicz wrote the script. So if anyone should get the Hemingway credit, it should be him.

You were quite pissed at this movie back in 2016, weren't you?
The more you watch Citizen Kane, the more you appreciate it. Orson Welles did really well in this film by using camera techniques that is incredibly powerful and super influential for filmmaking. I also love how he uses light to express emotion. The editing and the cinematography is breathtaking and astounding at the same time and the fact that it was all accomplished back in 1941 is really impressive. To this day, it's consistently been regarded as the greatest film of all time, ranking it in the top films of all time, being ranked as #1, many critics, directors, actors and audiences calling it the greatest film of all time.
No other movies especially The Godfather, 2001, Lord of the Rings Trilogy, Psycho, Seven Samurai, MCU, Goodfellas, Pulp Fiction, Metropolis and other great films can top Citizen Kane.
@star3torres😂😂😂😂😂😂
That movie had been number one on the "Best movies ever"-list compiled by film critics for decades but lost first place to Hitchcock's "Vertigo" some years ago!
Jeff Costello vertigo is overrated
Now it’s replaced by The Godfather and the dark knight
Citizen Kane is overrated, best movie ever is The Godfather
In 2012
I've never been able to understand the acclaim Vertigo receives. With many great movies that don't do it for me, I can see why they're so beloved, but I just don't get Vertigo. It seems, to me, like such a poor example of Hitchcock's talents.
Nice way to introduce all the major actors, and till amazing to think it was the feature film debut of the majority of them, who then went on to have long careers in film and tv. And Welles, knowing that everyone would know him by his voice due to his many successful radio programs, (Mercury Theatre on the Air, The Shadow), cheekily only introduces himself by use of the microphone. Wonderful touch. The best trailer ever.
Imagine a modern art movie being this unpretentious.
The Lighthouse??
If u look closely there’s a lot of it... in fact I’d go so far as to say there’s some modern art movies that are above this. Great movie, but only gets called the best because it was ahead of its time
There are many great modern art movies. You just aren’t looking around for them.
Her?
Unpretentious?
Just watched this film for the first time today on HBO MAX. Perhaps the greatest film ever with cinematography. I love how some scenes such as the room thrashing causes modern cinema to use scenes like this today. Such a good film. I rate it 9/10.

Always heard of this being the GOAT and finally saw it and honestly it is fascinating. Idk if it’s the best movie I’ve ever seen but for an 80 year old movie it captivated me from start to finish.
The characters are what make it so goddam interesting and the way the story unfolds and you learn about this man who has become like a prophet is spectacular.
And the movie just feels grand in every sense of the word. From the sets to the camerawork, everything is impeccable. I can now see why this movie has stood the test of time and become so influential.
They said this is the greatest movie of all time. I still yet to watch it

Actually film recorded on tape can actually higher quality than any digital form of media thus why every movie remaster is usually very detailed since they are filmed under ideal light conditions, so I've heard at least.
@@directback2284 35mm has a resolution of 5.6K, so, say, a movie shot digitally in 6.5K could outperform it.

Eighty-three years on, it remains the greatest picture of all time in many polls, and top-five in most others. Revolutionary in more than just Welles' performance and direction, Gregg Toland's photography, Bernard Herrmann's music and a bunch of other great performances, so was this trailer. a tremendous movie. sad that it was not given its due. it was fantastic.
If you watch this movie in 2022, it might be normal, but this movie was a pretty groundbreaking production movie in 1941.
If a viewer found something made 80 yrs ago as NORMAL speaks to how groundbreaking it is coz at that point its TIMELESS.
Even Welles' trailer is a work of art
Well that was refreshingly original. Never thought I'd say that to a movie trailer from a long time ago.
Masterpiece of a movie. You watched to the end?

Literally one of the best movie trailers ever made

As a native Spanish speaker who lives in Latin America, the newspaper headline "Se murió el Sr. Kane" gets me every time. LOL. It's so informal, you wouldn't see it phrased like that on a respectable newspaper. "Muere el Sr. Kane", is a more typical, appropriate way.
( It's the narrative device known in English too, as the "historical present": the use of the present tense to narrate past events. )
Wow, this trailer did not show anything from the movie. However, very interesting...
That means it's a good trailer. Almost every trailer spolis the whole movie, especially the newer ones. It's a shame.
People don’t talk about citizen Kane but everyone knows it is the best movie ever made heck the most important in human history
one of the most complete film ever!
A completely innovative trailer that like the movie, changed how we view movies & trailers. Hollywood took control soon after and he never as able to put out something into the public with complete freedom, again.
Hugely entertaining trailer up there with John Waters' trailer for his Pink Flamingos which had snips of interviews with viewers coming out of a screening. " I liked it even more than Cries and Whispers."
how people in 1940 watch this trailer?
At the cinema.
Kemas Trimukti Television
The ads for pornhub.
television didn't exist yet
Bankyoko Joe yes it did, it just wasn’t as common. I see your point though, television was probably not the most effective medium for promotion. My second guess for promotion would be fliers, radio, or other movie theaters (kind of how you see trailers before the movie begins at the theaters). As far as where people would see this. Other movie theaters is my best guess lol
No actual footage from the movie, and the star never appears on screen. These days this would be the first "announcement" teaser and would be followed by 2 or 3 more trailers before the movie came out.
1:33 oh lawd he comin
😂😂😂😂😂 oh my gaaah, I’m crying
what a way to sell your movie. this is mind blowing!!! indeed the movie is classic. and ageless, before I forget.
I can't believe its been 121 years since this movie came out
If i become a movie director, i'm making a trailer like this but with modern stuff.
Uriel Acosta how original
Citizen Kane is the perfect example of a movie that is good as is.
It's all Greek to me, so I used a nerdy-looking translator (and typical Greek tax cheat) named Zorba the Geek. He may have been lying, but here goes: "The film has hidden meanings, art direction, direction, all those elements that turn a great movie into a work of art and not a long advertisement for computers, cars and snacks, which most movies seem like these days. We have the story of a press magnate, Charles Foster Kane, who is brought down by hubris and ambition. The very same factors in his path to the top, characteristics which arose from an overwhelming complex with his mother, which nullifies his achievements, condemns his marriage to failure and, ultimately, destroys his life. A victim of this vicious cycle, which touches the core of his being, the ill-fated Charles dies alone, without love, simply because he could never be weaned. Maybe it wasn't about his mother's breasts...but surely Charles Foster Kane was capable of out-jumping everyone, even his own mother, and that was ultimately the source of all his problems. Plot always follows character. Don't forget this."
What in the blueberry dingle lips did you just say?!? Did you just curse us all??? Looks like witchcraft 🤔🤭

I have no doubt Orson Welles was from an outer planet. Came to us to show movies should be made.
I noticed that a lot of the people in this comment section are extremely pretentious and kind of moronic. Most of you heard that a lot of “sophisticated” people considered this movie to be the best movie of all time and then jumped right onto the bandwagon. You know you guys can form your own opinion and you don’t have to put people down for having their own opinions. I actually applaud these people who can actually enjoy their own things. At least they have a working mind that actually thinks for itself. I have not watched this movie and I don’t plan on it. This trailer looks boring to me and that’s okay. Movies are art and everyone has their own preferences when it comes to art.
That's right
I do have some positive things to say about this movie it was revolutionary, it invented a camera style, the crane shot, now common place, but nothing is more pretentious then saying something is boring without giving it a try.
