Not sure if you knife guys have ever seen the host here shot a revolver but it is a marvel to behold. The Yojimbo 2 is the best. I have 3 and just ordered the Ronin. Thanks guys.
Great video by someone that really knows knives. Thanks.
That is a sweet looking blade. I'm going to have to handle one of them now and see how it feels. Oh and I love watching Michael and the others on THE BEST DEFENSE on TV. Keep up the great work.
I've had the Yojimbo 2 for awhile now as my EDC blade. Awesome little knife!
Mr. Janich also put the design in for the Blackhawk Tatang. I have one, its an absolute beast!
Had the original Ronin. Best knife I ever used hands down. That thing was a work of art. Should never have traded it away.
Amazing why I have carried spyderco's since Mid-80's they Git it done Well Alway's TY alot ;)
This Yojimbo 2 is awesome.
I own both the original Yojimbo and Yojimbo 2 folders. They are great knives. I've taken Mikes classes as well. He really is a top man. I recently purchased the Yojimbo fixed blade and was disappointed. The handle is too slim and too short. I cannot get a decent grip on this blade.
"Looks wicked bad" - Jerry Miculek Works as an endorsement for me. LOL
Very beautiful knives
Nice Knife, is this Statrek?
not even fac new what a scrub silver
+Eiterbeule nah it's only fac new
What a duo right here
One of my favorite pockets knife as EDC
SWEET! I wanted a Yojimbo after they stopped making one and the prices were high.
Good to know info Jerry! 👍 Thanks for sharing!
Wow! Cool! Would it be possible to show the knives in close-up more, please? I am glad that Mr. Janich is there, talking with Jerry, but the focus of the video is the knives.
Also, it looks like the guys from Eastern Europe (Janich, Miculek) are really keyed into good weapons! :-)
I carry a ruger lcp in the right pocket and a spyderco in the left pocket :)
I'm going to have to go get one of those I love knives just as much a guns or weapons what ever you want to call them
Nice knife, but as a defensive weapon, because the knife is designed so slim without a guard, what protects a persons hand from slipping down the blade when and if in an actual confrontation?
There is an indentation for your finger to go under the blade
great work, Michael. Picked up the Yojimbo2, love it. You've convinced me on the Ronin2, love fixed blade deployment even more. Great work on blade shapes and functionalizing SE Asian etc martial arts.
love the show!!
damn....why... why...why.
now i have to add another knife to the collection. thanks guys. :)
Hmm seems like you're easily manipulated. Don't buy shit that you don't need mate!
+Corvux IX That would ruin the economy on earth as we know it...
+Corvux IX need and want are two different things. besides, you don't know me. :)
MrMrjones333 but you know you didn't even "need" it in the first place :)
+Corvux IX :)
Wow now I’m going to have to order a spiderco
Nice video. Michael is really down to earth. Thank you
Why don't people carry more swords? They seem to be a good self defense weapon in all the pirate movies.
+bcbloc02 We'd at least be well served by some world war 2 Fairbairn-Sykes daggers assuming someone could make comfy IWB sheathes that you can't easily cut yourself with while drawing.
Really nice knives
Good video. Green screen?
Awesome guys
To everyone on both sides of the fence about knife fighting.
A knife is a perfectly fine weapon to kill someone. The reason everyone is immediately put of by it is the majority of us want to end a fight as fast as possible, it's why we choose ammo that will have the greatest affect on a target without over penetration, the reason we have caliber wars, and the reason we talk about center of mass or Mozambique drills. But just because you can kill or incapacitate someone with a knife doesn't mean you'll survive the experience yourself.
Simply put, a knife is the slowest way to kill someone you're facing and don't have the element of surprise on, which is what a self defense scenario entails. It's also useless if you're out of arms reach.
I have a feeling Mr Janich has put a lot of thought into how this knife would be used to slash a person, and how effective it would be to incapacitate through cutting muscle and causing blood loss, but very little about how screwed you would be if you were to employ it on the defensive with someone else holding you at gun or knife point. Carrying a knife for a primary weapon is a fools errand.
(Note: You should always carry a knife, but planning on using it as anything but a tool and LAST resort weapon is going to get someone killed)
Also, I noticed that Mr Janich is being titled "Pro knife fighter" in this video (Yes I realize it was changed in the description to "pro knife fighting instructor")
That is BS, he is not a knife fighter, he is a classroom instructor, he has never had to try his lofty ideas out on a determine and violent attacker trying to kill him. And frankly some of his videos are McDojo type junk.
+Andrew H you don't know if he had to kill anyone or not. The only person who can answer that is the guy himself.
Yay! Filipino grip
Hello I have a question. I use to own a marijuana recommendation it recently expired and am now looking into buying my first shotgun. I know you cant pass a background check if you own a marijuana recommendation but it has now expired, can i now pass the back ground check even if i owned a marijuana license in the past?
Yes you can
Right on it looks like a winner for all of its untended purposes
The fixed blade is the Ronin 2
Last month I got bombarded by replies in IG about how I own 22 knives ranging from CRKT, Kershaw, SOG and Schrade. I got replies from other knife collectors who kept talking shit to me because I didn't own knives that costed $1000 and up.
They keep calling me Wal-Mart ninja and I am not a real knife collector. Just random shit that didn't make sense.
To be honest I don't care. Knives are beautiful to me and I am not paying anything over $100.00. To me that's a crime but to each their own. Knives have multiple purposes and they all slice, stab, and cut.
How am I wrong? I didn't insult anybody, you didn't read my post right. I clearly said I was posting pictures of my new Kershaw and CRKT knives and I got bombarded by custom knife buyers to stop buying Wal-Mart knives and buy knives like them.
I never would insult another man for having better stuff. But I would go offensive if someone would belittle me.
Stoney Lonsome Of course!
But it's okay, the insults did bother me a little but not anymore, It's been a couple days so I moved on. It's like pulling up to a truck show and bringing a lifted 98' Toyota truck (Which Is my second vehicle).
これって用心棒?
It does look wicked bad.
make some range vids !!!!!
Good old jerry
hey jerry!
i cary a Kershaw blur and a s&w homeland security knife as backup if needed
+Steve Obee I've had problems with the lock on a S&W knife failing unexpectedly during basic use (not beating the spine with a wood club like an idiot to see if it will fail), mainly it would fail to lock up in the first place fairly often when opening it with the thumb stub. If you've never had any problems with you knife, more power to you, but I really think it would not be hard to find a better replacement for not much money.
+StudyinSteel i never had any fails on either knives both s&w swat and homeland security work flawlessly no fails ever so does my Kershaw blur if your having problems with the locks you might have to adjust the torx screws either tighten or loosen them up a tad should work for you
Steve Obee ew
nice knife
Spring assist?
Nope. But very smooth.
I would love to have a job like yours! What does one have to do to acquire one??
He did not demonstrate reverse grip which is best for striking. The way he held it with his thumb is not best.
Nice collaboration knife and gun ( guy )... Thank you
That knife shape is pure Anglo Saxon Broken Back Seax :)
If he designed it himself and wanted to make it the "ultimate grip/body extension" knife that he wanted, why didn't he get it jimped on top? S30V is a favorite of mine though.
He's ran tests on knives with jimping. Jimping when stabbing causes it to rip up your fingers. I'm pretty sure MJ knows what he's doing. Anyway, the knife fits your hand in such a way that jimping isn't required.
+bigpoppa578
After many weeks of highly un-intensive, un-professional knife combat training (UA-cam knife videos), I've heard that stabbing is too slow & drags out the fight.
From what I've "learned" about using a utility style blade for fighting, seriously cutting up the bad guy is going to end the fight faster, than stabbing and pulling back. In firearm lingo, one good muscle cutting slash that causes major blood loss, can have more 'Stopping Power', than a single stab wound.. (That missed the heart etc).
I agree the knife that fits your hand so that jimping isn't required is the way to go.. My EDC (Cara Cara 2 FRN) fits my (size M) hand (perfectly), so that my thumb is pretty far back from the blade jimping. (There is a little FRN scale jimping). I have to 'choke up' on the scales, to put my thumb on the blade.
This EDC is not a knife that I would want in a fight, but it's the knife that's clipped onto me, about 14 hours a day. It's got some weird "Proprietary Bi-Directional Textured FRN" anti-slip scales that makes my Spyderco G10 scales seem catfish slippery..
My small EDC (Ambitious G10) is so short, it would be poor for stabbing. But, it's very good at cutting stuff. (Dangerously good).
It's a short knife, (Boston legal) so the jimping is the thumb rest.
So, the question is, if you aren't going to stab, is jimping okay?
+Richard Lee if you read more about the Yojimbo and the teachings of Michael Janich you will see that cutting the attacker to damage muscle tissue and cause blood loss is exactly what he has in mind. I was simply stating why there isn't any jimping on the blade. It's designed for cuts, not stabs. I guess it stabs pretty good though too.

Mr. Miculek, I would love to see you speed shoot and review a Hi Point C9.
Hi Jerry, Nice video here today. Might get one :D
Come out with a mini version of the fixed blade, and I buy.
+shamgar86 The Ambitious is 'almost' a small version of the Yojimbo folder.
I think it has great cutting capabilities for such a small, low-cost knife.
Not so good for large hands..
+Richard Lee Good design but it has inferior steel. 8Cr13MoV (Ambitious) is a long way off from CPM-S30V (Yojimbo). I very much dislike 8Cr13MoV.
I don't mind 8Cr13MoV, since I have to sit down once or twice a month to sharpen the kitchen knifes. It takes a few extra minutes to make my 8Cr13MoV blades scary sharp..
Of course the best thing about 8Cr13MoV is the price. I'm on a limited fixed income..
+Richard Lee My favorite steel for a pocket knife is VG-10. That has served me well for years. Fairly easy to sharpen and the edge lasts and lasts.
I'm not too picky. My little collection has a few different steels. Most of my knifes get very little use (if any), so they are always very sharp. My EDCs are the only ones I need to sharpen regularly.
Since I'm pretty old, I don't fear making the blades smaller by 10 or 15 years of sharpening.
Notice how they didn't mention the price, cause it's way too fucking overpriced
damn !
crazy combination of 2 guys..... doesn't fit really in my mind ....but anyway....
awesome review. i like those knives for long time.
miculek is a cool dude. an janich: awesome guy i guess. looks kinda "exhausted". still: great Blades. top notch. think i buy the roninn 2... AS well
That knife is SHARP. See what I did there?
Thanks for the video good to know what's out there . My money goes towards ammo , in like you , I just don't have people that sponsor me.
miculek vs Hickock45
you're the man
No demo OH well maybe next time...
Even being a sword swinging member of the SCA, I don't get this whole" knife" thing? A run of the mill $15.00 knife from wal-Mart will do every task equally as well as a $150.00 knife. It's not like you need the quality advantage in a 10th century medieval battlefield. Also knife fighting? Spending time training with no practical use, who would choose a knife over a gun to protect themselves or family?
I thought $150 was a lot for a knife...then the knife bug bites you and doesn't let go. I'm not the only guy out there that's spent $750+ on a knife. Medford Knife & Tool Co.'s Praetorian T was my first big boy knife. You are correct, that the knife's function as a tool is basic and can be done no matter the quality. Some guys buy a car to get from A to B. Some guys buy a Ferrari. Same principle applies to knives, guns, curios...
+sTEVAL570 The Praetorian is not a "big boy" knife, it is a tax on people who don't want to acknowledge diminishing returns. You didn't buy a Ferrari, you bought beats by Dre.
To each his own. It's still a nice knife. I have cheaper and more expensive, but I always find myself with my para2 more often then not.
I have many knives I've never used and will never use. Who cares what someone else does with their knives? Guys that buy a diesel
Pick up truck and put a loud exhaust on it and soup it up are total wastes of space to me, but I don't get bent out of shape over it. Like come on, mom & dad bought the truck, the monster energy hat, and the fat ass girlfriend and or boyfriend.
sTEVAL570 I guess my comment was kinda ornery; custom frame locks will always be more about selling the character and feel of the knife rather than necessarily just giving you some "perfectly" geometrically optimized bar of 3V.
I am considering getting a PM2, what vendor did you buy your's from? I see a lot of them for around $100-160 but all the cheaper ones seem like they're probably counterfeits.
i started carrying my Gerber guardian every day, i love that knife
Looks expensive.
About 120-140 new.
+Aaron G Buy once cry once. $100 is nothing for a knife, btw.
where to buy?
Knife fighting? How does it go," don't bring a knife to a gun fight".
Cant bring a gun everywhere
Pro knife fighter? Is that a thing? Jim Bowie was the last American knife fighter and he died at the Alamo.
Too expensive and nothing special. Not strong enough (for me)
ak-45 a faca perfeita para o combate!
Ouch. Never give back a knife with blade first :).
third
🔪
4 weeks without video from Jerry and the last one is about knifes...
WTF is going on?
cool
Filipino grip🇵🇭
no1000
I'm joke let me make an early
You call that a knife
flawlessfoose that’s not a knife
Don't bring a knife to a gun fight. Especially one with a short blade.
+Richard Hoepfner What about a gun that shoots knifes?
+ThatGuy3714 what about a gun that shoots other guns
Or to a gunfight with Jerry period!
Unless you are closer than 21 feet then grab your blade
+Richard Hoepfner Bring a knife and a gun to any fight. Maybe bring a more traditional fighting knife if you're really expecting a fight, but any decent sized and well designed pocket knife will be better than most "tactical" knives.
how can you be a pro knife fighter, you would end up really ragged.
+rowanmark Agreed, I'd think he'd have big scars all over if he had participated in enough knife fights to be considered "pro". It might just be because he teaches self defense classes that focus on using pocket knives.
Im a filipino and I dont know about Filipino grip haha
second!
Wharncliffe blades are the least effective shape for stopping an attacker. I've seen people that have been cut to pieces with a box cutter and while it leaves very nasty and scary-looking scars it does nothing to stop your attacker. You need to pierce vital organs, or cause enough pain or bleeding to stop a person from attacking you. This will not cut deep enough to do that. Plus downward tips like that are very ineffective at getting through loose fabric and clothing. Bad design. Over-priced too.
Bullpup92 to be fair though, a box cutter is too small.
Tip is strong though since there's more coming down. I'm sure if you had strong intent and not half heartedly thrusted, it should go through.
I just don't understand why the mini thumb hole for the ronin fixed blade....
Damn it. Now I gotta by the civilian. Thanks a lot
Buy
Bullpup92
There are longer warncliffes and they are very stabby designs
Where did you recieve your training on cqb/self defense use of a knife?
cool
