What a beautiful baby-garden! I absolutely love your designs! Your home garden is one of my favorites, especially the hell strip. I could see your influence in your friend's garden (Patty's garden). I keep re-watching these garden tours. There is so much beauty and love in everything you do. Thank you yuliya ❤

Yulia - I'm a HUGE root Slayer fan! My favorite is the Root Slayer Nomad, which is a smaller version and extremely flexible in its use. I have the XL, but prefer the Nomad - straight handle version, as I use it daily. I've used the Nomad to divide large grasses, too (cutting off chunks from the outside in) and for digging out dead shrubs. Small but mighty.

Yulia, you absolutely need to invest in the drill and auger set from Power Planter (I've got Laura's set, Jenny's set has a heavy duty tip, which is awesome for hard clay/compacted soil.. It is a game changer, creates a planting hole in seconds, loosens it, makes it nice and fluffy, a pleasure to work with. It makes any planting job so easy and efficient. I have sheil/clay soil, and before Power Planter augers, we had to use pick axe and digging iron to make any hole, so I'm very grateful for the drill/ augers set. I'm able to plant thousands of bulbs so fast, it's amazing ❤

I have been amending soil for about 18 months in neglected garden of new home. I daily add coffee and grounds left over mixed with water into soil - is this helpful or waste of time. Georgia 8a

Hey neighbor (8b)! I'm slowly transforming what I call "clay mountain" with leaves, chipped trees & compost. My oldest bed is ~3 years old and is now incredibly rich!
To create a new bed, I pile 6"-8" of materials in the area. Then, let it break down for a few seasons. It amends while I'm planting the previous bed.
I've had poor results with sheet mulch. The cardboard just sits on top of the clay & collected water.
So don't give up! You'll get there.
