Dark Shadows, an Quentin, helped me through the summer of ‘69. My parents had been in a really bad car accident. They were in the hospital for months. I discovered Dark Shadows that summer, fell in love with Quentin...that was during the 1897 storyline. That was my safety valve that summer. I was ten, and when I wasn’t watching, I was acting out storyline. I’m so glad I rediscovered it a couple months back on Amazon Prime and got to go back and see stuff I had never seen before. I still have about 200 episodes to go....them I’m going to watch it again!!! 😍
I sot of hated my life as a kid back in the 1960s and one bright spot five days a week was Dark Shadows. David is right it was a special bond between the audience and the actors. They were my friends and I felt as if I knew them, in character of course.
David is absolutely right. Dark Shadows took us all to another world. For me, it was like watching live theater on TV, fantastic stories and more fantastic acting. Yes, it was corny at times. Then, the erie music and special efforts. All so wonderful.
My mother and I watched Dark Shadows in the 60’s and 70’s. I was in elementary school. Quentin (character) was a hot mess in DS but one of the most handsome men ever. Mr. Selby has aged remarkably well. I am rewatching the entire show. Streaming it on amazon prime. It’s even more fun now. I might rewatch it again next year. Thank you for years of wonderful memories, great stories and great characters too. Much love.
Yes! I agree! What he says about the bond with the fans, helping us to get through our daily lives and to escape into an alternate universe. My life is shit right now. All I have is to look forward to coming home from work to watch it on Tubi, just about every day. I refer to the cast as my friends. 🖤 Quentin!!
Exordinary actor David Selby/our dashing haunting Quentin Collins (whom Barnabas Collins/Jonathan Frid character saved a many of times going back in time/Parella times). My sister Vicki & I been Dark Shadows fans since it's Classic debut in 1966. What an amazing TV Gothic Soap Opera show and the legendary Actors that brought to life so many beloved characters: watching my Dark Shadows CoffinBox DVD set (1245 episodes, Wow!!) now and @the point when Mrs. Johnson played by Clarice Blackburn (love & miss, so much) is about to meet Quentin! Scary.
What a gracious, thoughtful man. Of course we were all in love with him as teenagers. Nice to know he's such a nice guy IRL. I don't think Jonathan Frid, in his interviews, comes off nearly as well.
I agree, Dark Shadows had some of the greatest actors, EVER. I joined in in early 1969 just about when Quentin 1st came on the scene. I was a kid and absolutely LOVED Quentin. ( not in a gay way) HE was such a GREAT actor, thks to Dan Curtis. Dear God, how I LOVED that show, and ALL the actors+Barnabus!! I’d love to watch some more episodes!
I watch it every week end at 3:00 in the afternoon because I soap operas durning the week so I wait until Saturday and Sunday afternoon when there's nothing to watch in the afternoon like scary movies which are my favorite as we3
OMG, I was in love with Quentin Collins (and Barnabas) when I was a kid. I would rush home from school everyday at 3pm so that I wouldn't miss Dark Shadows, The Three Stooges and The Mickey Mouse Club.

Elton Davis Sorry the 60's weren't happy for you. Hope all is well now.
Same here, Elton. I am 66 now and rewatching the show since I have retired. It is better now that it was when I was a 12 year old.
I consider the cast my best friends, though I have never met them.

I'm rewatching it too. I was afraid I wasn't going to like it anymore, but I love it so much. It is better now that it was when I was 12.
Love David Selby. Still good looking and sweet.

David Selby, (AKA) Quentin Collins, a great actor.
Dark Shadows is a treasure. Love the show and everyone on it.
What s wonderful actor and man.
You are a legend in many eyes. You made the show as Barnabas did
Love to see David's son

Handsome on Another Level and Very charismatic actor. He brought a lot to Dark Shadows.

I started watching Dark Shadows in1966, when I was 13 in the 7th grade. I loved all the characters, but Quentin Collins/David Selby was my fav.
I'm rewatching the series now. The last time I watched it when I was 12.
Awesome interview!! Had a big crush on David Selby.
He explained this right on point
I love David!

Dark Shadows is Unique and Beautiful. 💯
Quentin was my favorite.
What type of accent did his character have? the actor doesn't have it.
Selby is from W. V. His character simply sounds like himself, although the Collins family was suppose to be from Maine.
Julie Witt i don't think he sounds like quentin at all.
Mine too Juile
Well look at Gomer Pyle, he never talked like he sang

Quentin was just so so so handsome.
Your just as handsome now as you were then I loved watching every day couldn’t wait to get home from school to watch

I loved him im watching all the episodes from 66to 71
What a lovely, sweet man.
Just seen him on a Chicago Fire episode!
Me too! I said that looks like Quinton I looked it up and it was!
Daily life is like a soap opera episode and vice versa. Characters come and go, regulars and walk-ons.
I love Dark shadows its my soap opera and I have fallen in love with Quentin Collins and I love soap operas
David resembles Alan Alda.
I do remember automobiles sorry david roger had a car crash when david cut the brakes highly unrealistic he was nine!!
