I’m an author & I’m voice acting my own writing. I drew my own logo. Yeah, it was a rough sketch. So I hired a vector designer to flesh it out. I trademarked it. Yeah. You DO have to hire an intellectual copyright attorney. And it did cost me $. But I’m a brand. What do you think Coke & Pepsi do? If you plan on differentiating yourself in the market place you’ve got to stand out. Gabby, I ❤️ how you showed all those Adweeks for scripts. They’re the industry standard for direct marketing & branding. Soul Surfer isn’t my brand btw. Gabby thank you for sharing all your wisdom. I ❤️ your sense of humor!

As an illustrator and graphic artist who is just now trying to launch a voice career, I want to tell you how much I love you for making this video.

Gabby it's really refreshing to tune into a VO tutorial/info YT video and find someone who get's directly to the point of what was written in the title.
So many people waffle on blah blah blah for 45 mins about themselves and whatever drawn out anecdote they choose to "show and tell".
Or they spend half of the video trying to sell you their, reduced from $4,250.00 to $299.00 only this week miracle guaranteed or your money back VO course.
Alarm bells usually start ringing when they say something like -
"Hi I'm So and So from Soandso.com and before we get in to mic techniques, I just wanna give you some insight into my..."
Anyway - your posts are great! Very informative and helpful.

That shame clip should be sent to Anyone who purposely uses a Google image. For goodness sake. Use Pixabay, Canva, Pixil or other COO sites. If nothing else, pay someone. Heck connect with me, I know at least 10 graphic designers. Jeez . Looking dumb will make it harder to get jobs. Just Sayin'.

Third possible image solution: public domain. I put some things into public domain on purpose, and there are sites that deal with it. There are ways you can even verify some of the items to make sure you're not doing anything wrong. Just fyi. I personally though may end up drawing my own little guy.

God that microphone is so cheesy. I used to do that, except I used a picture of my own mic. Another thing that should fall into the same box is how some vo artists brand themselves on Twitter. I have seen people use the exact same animation style (not character) for their profile pictures and headers. It's so annoying. Then there's me with just a real picture of myself and a decorated header with my name and what I do on it.

Hiring a designer or a photographer for headshots is worth it for individual branding!

LOL this is so true! Copying someone else's image is just proof that you're not a professional, and a company probably shouldn't hire you. Myself personally, I just went on Fiverr and hired somebody to design a custom image for me. I had her hand draw based from a Google image, then told her what colors and swirls I wanted. It's completely original and I'm totally in love with it :-)

I laughed out loud in real life when you showed that pic of the mic. But it’s SUCH a COOL pic tho! Lol

There’s lots of sites that have free images to use and comes with documentation to use and you also have pay sites with stock images. They’re inexpensive because I use them on some of my videos from time to time

Oh man, how spot on Gabby. 'Bush League' is what immediately comes to mind when I see those canned logos and images. It would be like a doctor using a stethoscope on his or her business card! Would you trust them? It would indicate to me inexperience...

Ha! I definitely used that mic for pay 2 plays. Maybe I still do? lol! I thought it was a good generic default pic, but it's hilarious that that's probably exactly how it looks if so many of us use it. All that to say great tips!

WOW!!! Thanks Gabby! Very insightful. I DON"T want to be one of those "ppl" you described. I always wonder how you can find out if you are "innocently" using an image or GOD-forbid an image someone else is using or they are using yours. Thanks again for the valuable info you always provide.
