    I recently spent some time with the C8 Corvette and had a very knowledgeable Product Specialist (Richard) go over some key aspects of the car. I wanted to share that knowledge with all of you after hearing it. Let me know what you think of what he had to say down below. 👍👍

    I SEE NO STREET PURPOSE FOR THE Z51 PACK.

    YOU PAY $5,000 AND CHECK THE Z51 OPTION, I AM RETHINKING THE C8

    Watched the Rolex 24 At Daytona. Just so you know, that's a 24 hour Sports Car road race held every year at Daytona International Speedway in FL. The Corvette Race Team had two new C8 midengine vettes entered and came in 4th and 7th in their class. Not a bad showing for their first outing. I was shocked when Cadillac took first over all... Who knew Caddy even had a race team?

    Experimental car so it will be crushed. No talk about shock adjustments due to road conditions, etc. This car probably doesn’t have that advanced suspension since it is an X. That dude knew his C8 thoroughly. That was a excellent presentation that has me sold on this car. Without saying it, he eluded to the car being beyond what most exotics are giving you for a ROAD CAR. Its quite interesting and smart beyond what is being offered by European automakers in particular. Just to think you literally get 2 c8s for ones partially loaded Carrera S is mind boggling when I actually think the C8 is designed better.

    A few observations:
    - You both did a great job.
    - Being born in the 1960s, I appreciated the loud ABBA music.
    - Gapping the frunk for a trickle charger is a recipe for driving away with the charger attached. Any exotic owner knows to leave the hood or trunk full open as a reminder.
    - 495 HP is a "supercar?" Come on now. Lets put some sort of realistic cuffs on the marketing dept.
    - The 2.8 sec claim has fallen to 3.4 secs from Edmunds, but the lack of a decimal place and no stated measuring method is still concerning. Is this coming from OBD data or an actual test?
    - A Toyota Camry timing belt costs what?
    - A lot of the features are new to Corvette but don't ring the same to potential customers coming from other platforms. E.g. computer adjustable shocks, a DCT which has already been dropped in all BMWs and other cars, self adjusting ride height, adjustable steering and brakes (which I find a little dangerous, personally).
    - It's nice that the left intake gets some ram air pressure.
    - Both C8s appear to have had cooling issues at Daytona. The #4 car is rumored tp have chronically overheated, including qualifying day, as the explanation for it finishing 345 laps down.
    Questions I would like to see asked:
    -Does GM's new encrypted digital architecture prevent common customer upgrades like an engine or suspension tune?
    - Will GM share the encryption keys after warranty expiration?
    - Is GM considering a warranty upgrade with competing cars in this price category typically offering anywhere from 4 to 7 years bumper to bumper?
    - What are the stock rear rim widths? (ask any Hellcat guy about buying new replica wheels)
    -Will you please upload a verified 2.8 sec result to the Dragy database?
    - What is the latest production car curb weight?
    -What are the brake disk diameters on the Z51?
    - Why is production delayed?
    - What was the problem with the #4 car at Daytona?
    - Have the 2 years in a row, fairly easy front engine wins at Daytona caused any changes to GM's mid-engine thinking?

    This thing is gonna need 40 gallons of coolant to run the full lap of that car. I’m thinking since it runs along the door jams, it may make those a tad warm on a hot day! I’m still not convinced that this thing won’t overheat when pushed. I’m sure that the detractors will say that they are great on the racetrack blah blah! That’s not driving on our highways and city streets, where there is no air movement etc. Not too mention, all of the trick goodies that are added to race cars that are not added to stock. C7’s had overheating issues early on in their production and mine gets super hot even up here in Canada! I think I will wait a couple years before I would pull the trigger.... first of all, I don’t want a “Stingray” I would want Z06 or better, and I don’t want to be a GM lab rat dealing with technical and mechanical issues after spending a shit ton pile of money! Has anyone ever questioned that Accelerometer is a real word?
    Has exactly does rear engine reduce active airflow?
    The reasons given for not having a manual are nonsense. I believe they simply don't sell enough in the base models to warrant the development cost with their other development overhead. Sadly this reduces the fun factor of this car significantly.

    • @cassiespencer6134
      @cassiespencer6134 4 роки тому

      It is in fact "a real word". An accelerometer measures the real acceleration of a physical object. For example, in one of the aircraft I fly (F-16) the HUD (head up display) has an instantaneous G meter which obtains its data from an accelerometer. With 1 G being the force of gravity on a static object. That being what one feels while sitting in a chair reading. However, if you were moving and then change direction the G force you would subsequently feel could easily be greater (or less than) 1 G.
      That said, one need not be in an aircraft to experience high G forces. For example, hit an immovable object while driving a vehicle and your body would experience high negative G forces. Not good! Ever been on a roller coaster and suddenly go over the top and experience that “lose your stomach” feeling? That’s a mild negative G maneuver. Greater negative G’s than that suck!
      So yes, ‘accelerometer’ is a real word and they're quite useful for a number of applications. For example, they can be used to measure vibration since it’s movement.

    • @willstikken5619
      @willstikken5619 4 роки тому

      @@cassiespencer6134 Ya...I wasn't questioning that it was a real word. I was questioning whether people actually doubt that it's a real word. Nice way to work in the pilot angle though and answers to questions no one asked. Totally not stereotypical pilot behavior.
      There are a lot more accelerometers in that F-16 than what's used for your G meter. There will be accelerometers measuring engine vibration, measuring wing deflection for the FCS and so on.
      If you have a cell phone you have an accelerometer in you hand. If you're using a laptop you have an accelerometer. You most likely have one in your car.
      It is a very common piece of technology and not limited to forth gen fighter jets. .

      Agreed. I'll be using the Range device to disable the AFM once I get mine.

    Tell that to the Corvette racing team.........had to drop one of the cars out of the Rolex 24 hrs due to cooling issues (yes it came back for "testing" but so what)...............uh oh............

      Well the C8.R is quite a bit different so I don't think those issues would affect the base C8 here. The C8 Z06 might have an issue though if that's the case.

    What piano can beat an mp3 player? No one. The same for manual stickshift. Paddle shift has speed but is not fun.

    Why are these called 2020 Corvettes when they are not available yet and it is now 2020?

    • @HorsePowerObsessed
      @HorsePowerObsessed  4 роки тому +1

      They will be available very soon. Typically the next year cars don't start coming until around August/September.

    • @polystictus
      @polystictus 4 роки тому +1

      @@HorsePowerObsessed Right, but they sure missed the August/September 2019 time period like most new 2020 cars. I suppose the answer to my question is that they miscalculated and already designated them as 2020 thinking they should be out before the end of the year. Lets see how they handle the Z06 whenever that is.

    • @HorsePowerObsessed
      @HorsePowerObsessed  4 роки тому +1

      I agree. I can't wait to see that Z06.

    Now go ask a Toyota Supra product specialist how each of the Supra vent function.

      What upsets me about the vents on the Supra is not that they are covered from the factory, its that Toyota implied the vents could easily be made functional, which was completely misleading.
