I know this is a mod of the original ROM, but ever since ship of Harkinian was released, everyone have been focusing on online co-op mod over LAN. But me, my friends, and my cousins are all old-school zelda fans and we like to sit on the couch together, sleep over and have been dreaming about this. We can’t wait! (take your time!)
I have a recommendation that I think would make things a lot more unique. You should try add a small window where if link get's hit while in the middle of a back-flip or the first few frames of jump attack. It should freeze the enemy and you should stand on their sword like in the battle with dark link!!
Imagine if this was a full game where all the different Links from across different Zelda games were playable, each with their own inventory items. That'd be a DOPE fighting game.
Even if they suck because of the lack of options i really hope Deku, Goron, and Zora Link make an appearance one day. Even without them this is fantastic!
I always wanted a Zelda Pvp that uses all the masks. What about instead of just having the transformations being individually playable but like a moveset for Majora’s Mask Link and instead of managing your items, he manages magic use. Since his transformations rely heavily on magic to be good
Probably the closest thing we'll ever get to a Zelda e-sport. I've also always wanted a Link's Awakening GB/DX PvP, that game lowkey has movement mechanics that would work really well for a chaotic fighting game.
I'm not a Smash fan, so for me, the idea that a Zelda OoT arena-fighter is even possible is bittersweet. There's never gonna be a Zelda fighter, because Smash. "You got your Ganondorf, your multiple Links, your Zelda/Sheik (am I missing anyone?), some Zelda stages, and items. Shut up and make a custom match with dynamic angle." ANYWAY! Pretty freakin sweet.
I hope inside the windmill where you learn song of storms becomes a map. Imagine ascending and jumping around on the spinny platform. That one room in the shadow temple would be great too.
it might be interesting to see this in a scavenger pickup format, at least for bigger maps, with players starting with minimal inventory and have to explore to gather items, but considering that right now it's kept to 1v1, it might also be a bit of a chore to play, not to mention it would probably be even more work to make the item pickups work amidst all the balancing, but it'd be funny to find, say, a bow in the secret kakariko windmill staircase and begin sniping from atop. heck, maybe an actual battle royale in the future in the style of the mario 64 pc port could be neat to see OoT's engine and mechanics pushed in a whole other direction.
This mod looks incredibly awesome. For the long-haul of this mod, won't it need a way to not allow you to constantly hold shield? Maybe multiple ways of punishing shield or a stamina or something?
At 2:00, you could make it so that your shield drains mana slowly while you use it, and every time you deal damage you would regain some magic back. You could probably do the same with the rest of the expendable items. Instead of having a limit of uses, you could make them to use magic instead?
Interesting thought. We had talked about this a bit and it sounds like the goal is to stay fairly faithful to standard oot mechanics, even if it leads to occasional imbalance. Its surely an interesting balance, deciding what should remain faithful to its source material and what has to be modified for competitive nature.

Either a time limit of how long they can hold the shield, shield break after too many hits, or be able to grab using the chain hook. Pretty much like smash bros. I love the idea! But this looks lile it'd be a lot more fun if shields were either removed, or at least "breakable". Right now, at least from watching, it feels like "Drop your shield and you lose", unless your opponent misses his chance. Is there ANYTHING that could damage you if you just keep shielding?
So in ocarina of time, the way the crouch stab is coded it does the same damage as the last attack you did, so if you do a biggoron’s knife jump slash and then crouch stab it should be equal to the jump slash, does this work the same? I would assume it would, but I don’t know if it would have been removed for balance or something.
This seems kinda unbalanced if item properties haven't been heavily edited from vanilla, for the following reasons: 1) Deku Nuts being an instant multi-second stun with what seems to be their vanilla hitbox are way too overpowered to have twenty of them 2) Shielding also seems broken if it's the only way to mitigate Deku Nuts and also blocks literally anything sans jump attacks / bombs / megaton 3) The current meta (based on just what I can see) seems to be that you have no reason at all to do anything except hold shield and wait for your opponent to do something, then DN and punish My suggestions would be: 1) Limiting DNs to 5 and/or limiting their range to a very small cone in front of you 2) More anti-shield options (hookshot unblockable and pulls the target, adult-compatible boomerang that goes behind the opponent and stuns, arrows push back blocking opponents) 3) Maybe lower the potency of shielding the longer the button is held to where certain attacks go right through after X seconds, potentially introduce parrying
I definitely agree to a certain extent, deku nuts and shield are a very powerful part of the current game. I think he showed other items like bombchus and hammer could be useful, but i agree they are def not as useful as nuts and shield. Aegiker (mod creator) wants to keep as much as he can to the standard ocarina of time intent without making many changes too vanilla (which i like, keeps the game feeling very akin to vanilla), so i highly doubt he would lower the range of nuts or anything like that with shield hitboxes. My idea so far is it would be best to limit deku nuts and allow hookshot to pop shield (since its so slow it could be dodged still). Thanks for the feedback!
Yeah, its a pretty delicate balance right now between changing the vanilla game too much and still needing to make it fair. I think with more practice the full arsenal would be useful. Will be interesting to see how the meta develops
