- What did a German Airman wear in WW2? The Luftwaffe had uniforms similar to the German Army (Wehrmacht), however they did differ in some aspects. They had uniforms such as the flight blouse (fliegerbluse) that were distinct to them and only them. They also had tropical uniforms and winter uniforms that they would wear depending on the weather.

This channel is critically underrated and definitely needs more sub's.

Even as a German I haven‘t had such a good overview yet. Thx bud, great video 👍👌
They had the most dashing uniforms on the planet, and the breeches and jack boots. Wow
I notice you referenced their headgear as "covers". And yor you tube name "Shellback". Both Navy/Marine terminology. Connection? Great vid btw!👍👍
Thank you so much for the comment and support! Great connection, my original love for history started out in the Navy realm so to speak so that's definitely a large factor in my terminology usage!
Very informative and entertaining. Thanks for posting.

Hi great video pal! Do you know wich uniform was preferred by Ju-87 crews?
Those Luftwaffe men in the photo at 5:30 are most likely pilots and gunners of Ju-87 dive bombers, judging by them standing next to one, and they seem to be wearing the summer flying suit as seen at 3:31. They also seem to have their belts on top of the flight suits so they have access to their compact pistols, which might have been a Walther PPK, a Mauser HSc, or a Sauer 38H. They would have had yellow collar tabs and branch piping.
I checked the German war film 'Stukas' from 1941 to verify and they too wore the same light-colored suits over the greyish blue flight blouses, they also wore the flight helmets when in the air and most likely had the visorless field cap tucked into a pocket as they quickly changed to wearing them when out of the aircraft.
I also checked the 1943 film 'The Crew of the Dora' which was about a crew of a Ju 88 twin-engine bomber and they wore pretty much the same stuff except they had life jackets on top of the flight suit.
The guy in the middle looks like a little bit like Putin 5:31
Maybe that WAS him in different life. Kinda like cats, they have 9 lives, I know it's a myth, but I like to believe that sometimes.
Wonderful Beethoven.

Awesome
Hey, I have a question: Do members of the Luftwaffe wear their Flight/Service Blouses under their overcoats, or do they take them off if wearing an overcoat?
@Electric Tree Yes they kept the blouse on
